I Fought of this thread because I had this in my mind for a couple of days now so i wanted to post it to you guys

As you all might know I am a Disney Fan and Love Disney with a passion, but everytime I bring into conversations with other people there laugh, say comments like "go and get a real hobby" etc but i wont say anymore comments cause there are rude. I just dont understand why, i mean this is a passion and a hobbie, Im not like everyone else I dont like to drink much, I dont smoke etc and I dont go out and cause trouble so why do there say this things.

I love having Disney & The DIS as a hobbie, but I just wanted to get your views on this.

I get the same reaction as you do. I'll talk about Disney or the DIS to family and friends and all I get is the deer in the head lights look...they just don't understand. My parents are big Disney Fans and arn't on the DIS yet, but we're all going on the podcast cruise so they are starting to listen to those. I would consider Disney and my hobby or interest too.

Thanks for posting on my thread I started, This is How I feel aswell. But some of my freinds make comments, will leave it like that which can make you feel bad about what ur hobby is

I'm sorry that your friends don't understand your love of Disney. Unfortunately, people often don't "get it" when someone has a love of something that they don't themselves like. For example, if someone is really into classic cars, and they talk about classic cars all the time, and their friends aren't at all into cars, they might try and shut the carlover down. It's not nice, it's not fair, but unfortunately, it is the way people are sometimes.

In my opinion, the best way to handle it is share your passion with people you know also share it; when you make a new friend, gently feel them out about Disney...when you find someone that shares your love, you know that's someone that will enjoy your Disney conversations...I would try to find other non-Disney topics with your friends that don't love Disney like you do, so that you don't give them the opportunity to hurt your feelings or stiffle your passion. I bet you'll find there are other things you both enjoy that aren't related to Disney...or you probably wouldn't be friends at all!

Everyone has a right to their own passions and their own hobbies, whatever those may be...but that doesn't mean (sadly) that anyone else will want to share them with you or hear about them. People like to find common ground, and some people get uncomfortable with differences. It kinda stinks, but there it is. At least you know everyone at DisBoards shares your passion!! This is one safe place you can read and talk and obsess as much about Disney as you want to!

Have a great day!
Brooke
