I am heading to Disney this spring and am going to propose to the love of my life. Any ideas/suggestions as to a really cool/romantic place to do it? Thanks!

Congratulations on the upcoming proposal!

Is your future fiance into the whole Disney thing? If so, what (or where) is her favorite part? Does she live for Cinderella's Castle and the princesses or does she pretty much just like anything Disney?

Here are some ideas that might fit any of her favorites.
1) An Illuminations Cruise to EPCOT one evening might be a GREAT and romantic way to propose. Click here and here for more information. The first link gives info on the cruise, the second is a thread on the theme park board where people give advice and share cruises.
2) You can also take a Wishes cruise and view the Magic Kingdom fireworks. Use the first link above and scoll to the bottom of the page for info on that cruise.
3) Discreetly ask one of the Disney photographers to follow you to the Castle and photograph you as you pop the question.
4) If dinner is more your thing, many of the folks on here have reported having "Will You Marry Me?" written on various desserts in various ways.

I'm sure many other folks will chime in with their opinions and ideas.

Good luck and best wishes!

There's also the Wishing Well on the path next to the castle (can give more specific location if needed). You could have her close her eyes, make a wish, and open them to a proposal. It's nice because it can also be a fairly private spot.

But I agree with J and R's mom. If there's something special that she likes about Disney or something that's special to the two of you, you should try to work it in.

DH had looked into proposing at Disney. I believe he said there were about 9 different packages to choose from that you could enlist the help and support of the cast members. I am sure they would be willing to work with you on anything, to be honest. This all depends on whether or not you want something quiet and "spontaneous" or some elaborate plan with event planning help.

One of the most frequent ones I have heard about at Disney is proposing at Cinderella's Table. I know atleast one of the girls here was engaged there. I am sure she can tell you all about it!

I was proposed to at Discovery Cove and absolutely think it is the best engagement ever. The dolphin will actually bring a buoy from the back of the encounter tank with the proposal on it. Information about this can be found on the Discovery Cove website under "Special Events." They, too, have the packages.

There is actually a quick covert hand off of the ring so that you can propose on bended knee in the sand. We call this the "official engagement". :teeth:

I love this question!!

I would suggest her absolute FAVORITE part of Disney, even if it's not the most romantic place, it will be soon!!

My DF knew that dinner at the Chefs de France while watching Illuminations from the window was my most cherished "moment in time" . . . so that's where it happened!! I would suggest asking her what is her favorite Disney memory and go from there.

Oh and one more thing . . .my ring came on a HUGE dessert plate with a crystalized gold sugar pumpkin on it made special by the pastry chef, and underneath the pumpkin was a glass slipper, and in the slipper my ring!!
The slipper read: "Will You Be My Princess?" (he then got down on one knee of course, and asked the real ?)

One other suggestion, I met a couple in Disney who did it this way . . .he bought one of the "Legacy" bricks in the MK and had "Will you marry Me ****?" with the date, etc. He had her help him find his "family's brick" and when she found her brick, he proposed. Now they will forever have the exact spot they got engaged!

:lovestruc

Good Luck!!

Jason proposed at Cinderella's Royal Table restaurant. They put you in the best seat overlooking the carousel and bring the ring out in a glass slipper covered in rose petals. They also have someone at the ready to take Photo Pass pictures.

Hello there.
I don't know about you...but I think it should be somewhere Disney romantic and private.......so you can both cry and say what you feel without everyone seeing.
Maybe take her to the Polynesian or Grand Floridian for dinner and then walk out to the beach and propose! You are on the beach and you can see the water, Cinderellas Castle and the wedding pavilion. There are beach chairs out there...lamps of fire AND IF YOU PLAN IT JUST RIGHT! You could time it for the FIREWORKS TO GO OFF RIGHT WHEN YOU PROPOSE. Then if you decide to get married at either the wedding pavilion or Sunset Pointe (at the Polynesian resort) you will be getting married at the same place you proposed.
I think that is the most romantic...I didn't like the idea of a bunch of strangers looking at me when I cried. I wanted it to be a private moment.
Just an idea.
Thanks

This is how Dan proposed it was lovely and very me...he knows me well and i would not have like a proposal in front of a thousand people at the castle or in a resturaunt nut it really depends on the girl, you kind of have to think about what type of person she is and what she enjoys. Good Luck!

August 6, 2005...How it all began. We had just arrived at Walt Disney World for our summer vacation and had decided to have dinner at a wonderful seafood restaurant (Narcoossee's) on the water at Disney's Grand Floridian Hotel. After dinner Dan had recommended that we take a walk on the beautiful white sand beach to the Polynesian Hotel. The Polynesian Hotel is Disney's tropics themed resort which has white sand beaches, palm trees, a great view of the castle and it's nightly fireworks show. When we arrived Dan seemed very particicular about the spot we viewed the fireworks from. He said he just wanted an intimate spot so we could start the vacation off right. So we found a lovely and quiet spot under palm trees and Dan brought over two lounge chairs for us. Five minutes before the show began he went over to the water to take a look (so I thought). He came back with a bottle in hand and I thought 'what is that?' he said he found a message in a bottle and wanted to read it. He got down on his knee and proceeded to read the letter which began 'to my princess..'. It was so beautiful that I could not control my emotions and began to cry. He then said he had one simple question to ask...'would you marry me?'. I could not control myself and began crying hysterically.... of course I said yes. Just then the fireworks over the castle lit up the sky and it could not have been more perfect. We returned to our room at the Animal Kingdom Lodge and there were roses, scattered petals in the shape of a heart, champagne and gifts awaited, as if the proposal on the beach were not perfect enough! That was the beginning of a beautiful vacation and hopefully many more to come!

edit...that's so funny gabrielle I just read your post and that is EXACTLY how Dan proposed to me! It was perfect...I really could not imagine a more romantic way (of course I am bias and this is just my opinion ;) )

A co-worker proposed to his wife at the California Grill. He had them seated so that his wife had a view of the MK and him. They also brought out the ring for him. It sounded cool. Just a thought.

Thank you all for the wonderful ideas! Definately food for thought. There is no one Disney character or place she is most enamoured about. It's just such a magical place in general that I thought it'd be a great place to propose.

PS- Any idea on how to get an engagement ring through airport checks without her knowing? I don't know if I feel safe packing it in my suitcase, but in a carry-on, she may find out. Thanks again!

What kind of things do you normally have in your carry on? Is there something that she'd never go into or have a need for that you would typically carry?

Okay... ideas
  • Back before digital cameras, the film canister in the camera bag was a good idea.
  • You can always hide it wrapped up in your toiletry case.
  • Tucked away in your laptop case

Hmm... I'll try to think of others.

This is how my fiance proposed...

We had dinner at Kona Cafe at the Polynesian (very yummy by the way!), then took a monorail ride. We came back to the Poly and went to the beach to watch fireworks. As the fire works were going off he got down on one knee and asked me. A fellow vacationer saw us from a distance and took pictures of us with the fireworks and the castle begind us. If I can ever figure out how to post pictures, I'll put it on here.

It was perfect for us, romantic, private... wonderful!

Hey Goofy Canadian. What airport are you going through (just curious). My fiance and I got engaged at Disney, and since we live close to the border, we saved money and flew out of Buffalo. My fiance actually called their airport security and asked them that question. They said, "Well, we can't tell you how to hide something from our airport security, however, if you have something that she wouldn't go through in your carry-on, like your own toiletries (sp?) bag and one of security staff saw the ring box in that bag, I'm am sure that they would examine it discreetly, if at all. They've seen everything and know how to treat it professionally". That is exactly what my fiance did. They opened up his toiletries bag and I never saw it at all. One thing he did make sure of was that he proposed on our first full day there. That way we could celebrate our engagement the rest of the vacation and he didn't have to worry about me stumbling upon the ring. Good luck with your engagement!

My DH put the ring around his neck in the airport. He started wearing his chain weeks before the trip so I wouldn't get suspicious. Then he bought himself a new tshirt so it wouldn't be stretched out. (who would have thought he was this secretive!) He then hid it in the safe. Of course he kept the key to it and wouldn't let me near it but I didn't think anything of it.

I am just new to the boards so, hello to everyone.

As another Canadian that decided to pop the question at Disney I figured I would let you know what I did, and wish you luck.

All suggestions so far have been great. Below is what I did, sorry if its a bit long winded.

I decided I would propose on May 1st when we were at Epcot. It was my 1st time there and after waiting all day and not finding a suitable place, I was about to give up and wait till the following day at Magic Kingdom. However we decided to get a bench to watch the fireworks, (it was right by the coffee cart just to the left of the main path to the World Showcase Lagoon).

I decided that this was going to be the place!

I walked back to the open area behind the golf ball and found a Disney photographer, and asked him to come over and capture the moment for us.

This was the perfect spot because as soon as the fireworks started everyone around us moved forward to the lagoon to see the fireworks. This left us virtually alone, this was an unexpected benefit as it was pretty crowded when we sat down.

My fiance kept saying, "he isn't coming back lets move forward to see the fireworks..." I convinced her to stay put.

The Photographer showed up and took a couple of pictures, as we had agreed. I then dropped to one knee and got out the ring, she was so surprised. She hadn't noticed that I had moved, as she was watching the fireworks. The photographer caught it all, it was great to have her reaction on film! It was priceless to see the look of suprise and shock, then the big smiles.

I hope to see the fireworks when we are back for part of our honeymoon in June of this year.

What ever method you choose I am sure it will be great and that you will both always remember it. Best of luck goofycanadian!

Hello everyone!

I have posted my story at http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1037466, but a link on that thread took me here, so I am duplicating it here to make this discussion extra sweet!

Greetings from EpcotJason, Official Fiance of KimSunshineDAK!

After meeting through the Walt Disney World College Program experience as Walt Disney World Cast Members, we actually got engaged in Kim's home state of New Jersey on August 1, 2006 after exactly 2 years of dating each other at her church. Then I had another special proposal in store for her when we got to WDW! I re-proposed to Kim on November 1, 2006 at The Magic Kingdom. Here is the story (written in third-person):

Three months after our first proposal in New Jersey, we returned to our magical place, Walt Disney World! Jason was planning another special engagement renewal moment during their visit. He had purchased a crystal shoe from Arribas Brothers in Cinderella Castle at The Magic Kingdom early in our relationship. During this trip he went to Arribas Brothers in Downtown Disney Marketplace to have the shoe engraved with “Kimberly” on the side. He also scouted out places at The Magic Kingdom and called Peter (Jason's best friend who set us up) so he could join us. On Wednesday, November 1, 2006, Kim, her brother, and Jason, with the crystal shoe in his pocket, met up with Peter and his daughter at the Walt Disney World Monorail station at the Transportation and Ticket Center. We transported ourselves to the main entrance of The Magic Kingdom. We began by walking up the street of Main Street USA to the center hub of the park. Jason slowly guided the group to the spoke that led to Tomorrowland. Just a few footsteps down the pathway and to the left Jason and Kim started walking into the Rose Garden. There is a little place where the sidewalk points directly to Cinderella Castle. When we got to this point, Jason took Kim’s hand and looked into her eyes and after some more romantic words that could only have been inspired by the Magic of Disney and the crystal shoe, Jason said, “By the magic of the Walt Disney World College Program and the Disney Organization, Will you marry me?” With the crystal shoe from his hand to hers, she said “YES” with lots of Pixie Dust all around us! And it was the beginning to living happily ever after!

My boyfriend just proposed to me at Sunset Point at the Poly at night last Thursday (Cinderella's castle was straight ahead and it was sooo beautiful with all of the reflections from the lights at the Grand Floridian and the Contemporary as well as MK) . It was so beautiful and it was all I could have ever wanted. He had never been to WDW so I thought it was pretty clever he picked that place. He told me after that he had originally planned to do it during Wishes in front of Cinderella's castle at MK but wanted something more romantic and secluded. I definitely agreed with him as I did not want a lot of people around when he did it. Try asking subtle questions to find out if she would want a more private proposal or if she wants a Proposal Parade :teeth: . Good luck and you're picking the perfect place to do it!!

**He said he picked Sunset Point because my first steps on to WDW property when I was 11 were at the Poly and I told him that was the day all of my dreams came true. So he said he wanted to make all of his (and our) dreams come true at the Poly too. :lovestruc
