Disney Magic with an ADD Family - PTR for March 09 (Update 4/20)

Sounds like an awesome trip in July...and so nice for the one year anniversary :goodvibes I cann't wait to hear more about that trip!

Hey Trina, thought I'd check out your ptr! Lucky you getting to go twice in a year! And I must say I'm very jealous of the Discovery Cove thing. One of these trips I'll get there!

Thanks for reading! Yes I am very lucky to get to go twice in one year! I'm super excited!

I don't know how I convinced my parent's to agree to Discovery Cove but I'm glad I did! Just hope it's not too cold!

Twice in one year...you are a lucky girl!

I am very lucky, my boyfriend (and his family) are far too good to me

Thank you! I'm super excited. Our actual anniversary is the beginning of June so technically we'll be there on our year and one month anniversary but neither of us care haha! That's why I love him though, he goes along with what I say!

I'm just going to plan as much as I feel like and then play it by ear. I think once were down there they'll thank me

You know one of the problems is they've been to Disney before but its never been planned so they think its no big deal to have no plan. But they don't realize that we have very little time to do everything and lots of people to please.

Hi, Trina!

I feel your pain! I love to plan for the same reasons as you, but my hubby is used to the trips he took before he was Married, With Children and could just cruise around the (two) parks (then) and do whatever, whenever!

I have fallen into the trap of "trying to please" everyone and, let me tell you, it is just trouble waiting to happen.

Do you remember the fable of The Man, the Boy, and the Donkey? Here is how it goes...

A man and his son were making a long journey. They were walking down the road, leading their donkey, when a woman saw them and scoffed, "How stupid! You have a donkey and you're both walking!"

The man was embarrassed and thought, "She is right," and he put his boy up on the donkey's back and proceded to lead him down the road.

A while later, they passed an old woman. "Shame on you, boy, letting your poor old father walk while you ride!" Again, the father was embarrassed and thought, "She is right." So he took his son off the donkey and got up on it's back himself.

They went along like this for some time until they passed a man, who berated the man for riding while letting his son walk. "You fool, there's room on that donkey for you both!" Once more, the man listened and he brought his son up onto the donkey so they both could ride. They continued on this way for another long time.

Now, the poor beast was getting pretty tired carrying that weight for so long. As they were crossing a rickety bridge, the donkey balked and kicked and tried to throw the man and the boy off of his back.

They all fell into the river and drowned.

(Must've been one of Aesop's fables...those always end with someone dying!)

Anyway, the moral of the story is You Can't Please Everyone (and You Shouldn't Try) That only gets you into trouble because it is an impossible goal.

I agree with you that it is very frustrating to vacation with people who have different ideas on touring styles. My suggestion is that you do some planning, but prepare yourself for the eventuality that some or all of your party may not wish to go along with your ideas. You cannot make yourself responsible for them having a good time; that is up to them!

Trust me, I wrestle with this on every trip! ;)

Perhaps you can schedule some solo time, or split the group for a few activities/shows/meals so that you get to see and do your park "must-do's. Kind of like, divide and conquer!

*Remember, no one can see and do everything they want at WDW in one visit....there's just too much!

Try to relax and keep in mind you'll be going back later in the year with DBF and you will have an entirely different experience. I hope that both will be magical!

:flower3: Hang in there!

Kathy

You know I don't think I have ever heard that one, but I absolutly love fables so thanks for sharing!

I agree about not being able to please everyone. I guess the one good thing is that my mom is a planner and is actually pretty proud of me for taking over this trip and keeping everything so organized! (So not me, you should see my room!) I guess i'm just the type where if its something I'm interested in I put everything I have into it! I'm the same way with my puppies, I always remember to feed them and brush there teeth and there haircuts and all that but I can barely remember to do stuff for myself!

Anyways, I'm working on the family a little bit. My mom finally gave into the fact that we have a binder! My dad saw it and they had the following conversation:

Dad: What is that?
Mom: Our Disney binder
Dad: I thought you told her she couldn't have one
Mom: Yeah well she won

 My dad is the main one who doesn't want a plan. In his words he's been going to Disney for years with no plan, why would he need one now? Of course he's always been going with us young kids or by himself with mom so his opinion was the only one that mattered! I'm trying to get him to realize that everyone wants to do things this time!

I think my plan now is to be slightly sneaky about it. I'll have my plan and when we get to the parks and everyone is standing there wondering what we should do I will just 'suggest' where to go. Suggestions never hurt anyone right? haha :rotfl2:

Thanks for commenting, your comments are always so insightful I appreciate them!

J/K, Hon!!!

Sometimes I forget that I'm forty-five... it seems like I was just twenty-five not that long ago!?! :rolleyes1

Kathy

Although most of the people I'm friends with on here are older than me, I love all of you and I'm glad I found you guys through the Dis! I've always felt kind of more mature for my age (at parties I always hang out with the 'grownups') and it's probably because i've had a lot of responsibilty thrown at me at a young age. At 20 I was the manager of my own store and I held that position for two years...and while I don't have kids, I do have my puppies which are like my babies and have been a lot of work for me over the years.

Anyways, I just wanted to get that out of the way!

I don't really have a real update tonight, because I worked a double and I'm EXHAUSTED and i have to be back in early tomorrow (even worse it's daylight savings time!) but I had to share this picture with all of you!

When my dog is tired, he'll pretty much let you do whatever you want...so I took advantage of that!!

I love him...he's also known what 'picture' means since he was four months old...very smart

A real update coming soonish? The trip is only 14 days away!!

That would be cool if we ran into eachother, I'll have my LGMH on our bags lol!

I don't like small dogs either but I love my papillons, they just don't act like small dogs, I can do anything with them!
