Disney Magic B2B Western Caribbeans, April 12-26, 2015 Trip Report, Navs & More!

Thursday, April 23rd, 2015 - Part One
This morning I woke up at around 6:00, we had the alarm set for 6:30 so I was I guess a bit on the excited side. We had finally made it to Jamaica. I have heard lots of stories about Jamaica from other people who have gone on cruises that I know, as well as videos I have seen. I had this picture in my head of what it was going to be like, everything I have heard was mostly about how all the vendors would follow people and harass them as soon as they got off the ship! I usually go into things without an opinion and judge it for myself, I mean sure everyone tells you what they think of a place if they know you are going, but you can still form your own opinions about it!

PositionJamaica_zpsoo3ivsb2.jpg

We were going on an excursion today and our group was scheduled to meet up in the D Lounge at 7:45. We were ready and heading out the door by 7:02 to make our way up to Cabanas for breakfast. We had a nice little breakfast, spoke to both Victor and Yanupa and then walked down to check-in for our little port adventure group. We were given a little Group 8 sticker instead of the usual Disney characters for our Chukka Horseback Ride & Swim. It was a pretty fast-paced walk through the port to get to the bus so we kind of hurried along so I didn't really have any photos until we were on the bus. Our guide for the bus ride was Tanya and our driver was named David. Once we were on board we had a 45 minute bus ride to the beach.

BridgeJamaica_zpsux8smtbv.jpg

*Again today I used the Nikon Waterproof Camera up until dinner time.

The bus ride started out pretty awesome, we were learning things about Jamaica, which is what I like to do, and since we are only there for such a short time, you would think everyone would, but that didn't seem to be the case. The bus ride on the way sort of turned into, American Idol. I am going to leave it at that...for now.

Once we arrived we had to purchase a locker for $5, that way we could put our belongings inside while we were both on the trail and on the beach riding. We were given our helmets and after putting on gallons of sunscreen, we were grouped up with our horses for the tour. Doesn't Jeremy look cute with his goPro strapped to his chest! LOL Not nerdy at all...

JeremyHorseReady_zpsagvpifgy.jpg

Jeremy had a horse named Avatar and I had one name Ti-merk? Not sure exactly how to spell that one. Apparently all of these horses were either retired from Polo or Horse Racing, or actually brought up on this farm. First of all, we all walked around in a circle to get family groups together, then we were off. I managed to turn around a few times to get photos of Jeremy and then Nikolo (CJ - Crazy Jamaican), would take my camera from me and take photos of us with it!

JeremyOnTheTrail_zpsaxqxfhbi.jpg

This was really nice Jamaican countryside, I did not expect such a great trail ride when we booked it, we were looking more forward to the horse swim part, but this was equally relaxing on a wonderful day!

JamaicanCountryside_zpstf6ll6ys.jpg

AndreaRidingTrail_zpsyxf9s8dk.jpg

Here is a photo of Nikolo, I wanted to remember him, he was a really great guide! Later on he even did a few special things for us, that seemed no one else really got to do? I remember him calling me Warrior Princess a bunch for some reason. Jeremy said, it was probably because I have a Wonder Woman tattoo on my back, but I am not sure if that was why or not?

NikolaAkaCJ_zpsrwoavrmw.jpg

We went through trees, over some hills, down to the water, and even past what looked like some sort of plantation.

AndreaPicketFence_zpsxgcqucrd.jpg

We even got a little trail ride through some water, Jeremy was a little upset about this because he got his shoes wet. He said he tried as hard as he could to keep them out of the water, they eventually dried off though, so there was no harm done...lol! That is why I wore sandals, most people were like in jeans and tennis shoes, but there was no way I was going to do that.

JeremyWetFeet_zps6sv23dnd.jpg

UsonAvatarTimerk_zpsrtjep4uw.jpg

Once we were finished with the trail ride, it was time to change clothes, rest a bit, then get ready for our swim. We chose to go in the second group into the water, that way we could watch and see how everything went before we actually went ourselves. Once it was our turn we went to stand out in the sun until we were paired up with two new horses.

JeremyWaitingForOceanRide_zps05ft7ph4.jpg

Jeremy's new horse was named Goofy, and mine was Famous! Nikolo had trained Famous from when he was a colt, so I thought that was pretty cool!

UsOnFamousGoofy_zpsf2qbwmph.jpg

Jeremy had the privilege of being the first one in the line, I was behind him. Nikolo took my camera from me and got some really good shots of us while we were in the water swimming with the horses. The horses really seemed to enjoy being in the water. They have separate trail horses and water horses, I guess they are like dogs, and by that I mean, some dogs really love swimming, others hate it, well I guess that is the same with people too...anyways...

JeremyOceanHorseSwim_zps6nyxn0zd.jpg

AndreaOceanHorseSwim_zpszanmwiuf.jpg

We spent around 10-15 minutes with our horses in the water. At the end of our ride, Nikolo pulled us to the side while everyone else was going in to get off their horses, he told us we could take off our swim safety belts and then he took some more photos of us! It was awesome! He took one of my top 3 favorite photos of this entire trip, and this is it!

AndreaAndFamous_zpstmlbwjsc.jpg

AndreaJeremyFamous_zpsqzg5phdf.jpg

Once we were finished at the beach, we went back up and dried off and changed to get ready to get back on the bus. We had a great time on this port adventure, the bus ride back, not so much. Tanya was still trying to teach us things about Jamaica, and I really wish she would have been allowed to. The entire bus ride back turned into...well..reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, Singing the National Anthem, complaining about American politics, and that sort of thing. Now, that is fine if people want to worry about things like that while they are on vacation...in Jamaica. But seriously...I was not one of those people, I would hope that people would try and respect that others are on vacation to enjoy it. It was the longest bus ride of my life I think, we could not wait to get off of it! There was another family behind us on the bus that agreed with us, and we all could not get off this bus fast enough when we arrived back at the Port of Falmouth! Luckily, I still have great memories of the Horse experience!

Next Up: In search of Tastee Patties!!

Loving your report! Thanks for sharing the details of your excursions!

I so now am interested in that excursion!!! I just love horses!

You should definitely consider it! I would recommend it. The horses were great and we had so much fun. They also do one that includes Dunn's River Falls and lunch, I know a bunch of people did that one as well. It was not really something we wanted to do too much so we just did the horses, but if you like climbing up waterfalls, that may be fun too!

Loving your report! Thanks for sharing the details of your excursions!

Thank you so much! I am glad you are enjoying it! With my time constraints I was trying to be as thorough as possible...maybe not as much as normal, but I am glad I was able to put details in about them! Thank you again for reading along!

Thursday, April 23rd, 2015 - Part Two
So we hopped off the bus and started to head back into the main area of the port. Let me tell you guys. The port of Falmouth is awesome! It is so clean and nice and new and safe looking. This port was nothing like I had been told of Jamaica. I have not been to the other ports, but with this one being my first impression of Jamaica, I was very happy that it was!

JamaicanWoodCarving_zpsduvpcayk.jpg

DisneyMagicFalmouth_zpsoybggsz0.jpg

We were on a mission. After having some patties at the Grand Cayman Food Tour we wanted some from Jamaica! We had heard around the block that the people we had spoken to were fans of the Tastee Brand of Patties, so we were in search of those, as well as a little magnet to take back with us, like usual. Well...this is not Jamaican Food...

QuiznosDQ_zpsocvi0bbx.jpg

No Quiznos and Dairy Queen for us! We found the Tastee Pattie Kiosk pretty much in the center of the port shopping district and got ourselves a Beef & Cheese one along with some water, we walked toward the main building so we could stand in the shade while we were eating it, as we had planned to get back on the ship afterward.

JeremyTasteePattie_zpseazbzbdb.jpg

AndreaTasteePattie_zpsctu66zhy.jpg

These things are SOOOO good! We finished the first one really quickly and Jeremy headed over to grab us another one! While he was doing that, and I was patiently waiting to eat the second one, I made a quick phone call home to check on everything and by that time he had made it back, we gobbled down the second pattie even though we were trying to savor it. I really recommend trying them if you find yourself in Jamaica!

We went through the security facility before boarding the ship, then one we got on we walked up to Deck 4 to see the view since we had to hurry this morning, I also called my mom to see how she was doing.

JeremyJamaicaDeck4_zpslwkjpqj7.jpg

Once we had made it back to our room we took showers and got ready and then by 4:00 we were walking over to the Future Cruise Desk to check prices for a cruise in 2016. Afterwards we headed to O'Gills. We sat discussing and looking over the options for the potential cruise that we would choose to go on next year. I also branched out from my double shot and ordered a Pina Colava (You know like the ones at the Polynesian) Andys made it perfectly too, it was delicious!

At 5:45 we headed to the Walt Disney Theater to watch the new Disney Nature movie Monkey Kingdom. We split a popcorn and water, then after the movie we came back to the room for a final discussion on which cruise to book. Once we had made our decision we went back to the cruise desk a little after 7:30 and booked a 12-Night Iceland and Norway!

Once we had finished up at the Cruise Desk we still had a little time before dinner so we went out and walked around the promenade deck, checking out all of the fun things to see!

By the time we had walked around it completely it was time to go over to Lumiere's for Pirate Night Dinner!

Since tonight was the Pirate Party everyone was having a ball doing limbo, it was a huge party. Even Jeremy and I got into the act this time around, I look so "over this" in this photo. We again did not go to the Pirate Party upstairs or the fireworks, we were just lazy again. I feel like I have seen the Pirate Party once, and that was enough...lol!

LimboPirateNight_zpskrjggucq.jpg

I guess with everyone heading to the party, the rest of the ship felt kind of deserted, which was nice, it gave us the opportunity to take some more photos with Helmsman Mickey!

JeremyHelmsmanMickeyRoundTwo_zps3fmb8mkp.jpg

AndreaSteeringwithMickey_zpsnbbgmggg.jpg

We got back to the room and started looking over the Navigator for our last day at sea. We also found our newest towel animal, even thought it wasn't an animal at all, it looks like an angel to me. I guess it also could be a fairy or something, but I am pretty sure it is an angel!

Next Up: Nowhere to sit except our Stateroom

Wednesday, April 15th, 2015 - Part Two
We were standing at the Church of God by 10:45 and two other couples were standing there as well waiting on the tour. Our guide Marzeta showed up early and so we actually started the tour a little before 11:00, we walked around the corner to stand in the shade while she gave us a little background on the Cayman Islands, here are just a few facts from what we learned!
  • Capital: George Town - Official Language: English
  • The territory is comprised of three islands: Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac, and Little Cayman. The name 'Cayman' derives from the Carib word for crocodile, 'caiman', and appeared in the log of Sir Francis Drake, the first English visitor to the islands, in 1586. Prior to that, they were called 'Las Tortugas' ('turtles', in Spanish) by Columbus, who discovered the islands in 1503. Cayman Brac ('craggy bluff', in Gaelic), was named for the limestone bluff running down the middle of the island.
  • Grand Cayman (76 square miles), Cayman Brac (14 square miles), Little Cayman (10 square miles). The population from the 2012 census showed 57,000 people from 135 countries around the world!
  • Politically it is a British Overseas Territory and they have their own currency the Cayman Islands Dollar.
Our first food stop was at Guy Harvey's Island Grill! We got to sit at a lovely table out on the balcony and get to know the other members of the group while we were waiting for our first dish!

ViewfromGuyHarvey_zpsfar4ewrn.jpg

Guy Harvey's restaurant is a very proud member of the Sustainable Seafood Program, what that basically means is that they do not serve fish that are over-fished or come from environmentally damaging practices! I think that is fantastic! They serve sort of West Indies/French flair style of food, all from local sources of fish. We were lucky enough to have some Red Snapper, served with Caribbean Rice and Beans, plantains, with like a roasted red pepper sauce. It was so delicious!!

SnapperRiceBeans_zpsi2duqie5.jpg

After that delicious food we next went to the very first fresh water well on the island. It was a little odd because it is still there, however, it is in the floor of a store! So strange, but they have left a Plexiglas floor in that store to both preserve the well and so visitors can see it!

WhatsTheHole_zpsqomlfdse.jpg

It was pretty difficult for me to get a good photo of it, one because there were so many people in that store standing around looking at merchandise and waiting to pay for their merchandise so they were basically just standing on top of it, and also the glass is pretty scuffed and such. You can see it really well in person, but my photo does not do this thing justice at all!

StepWellInShop_zpsjrtl6hui.jpg

Our next stop was around the corner at the Cayman Islands National Museum Gift Shop, we went into the shop to see the inside of the building because it is one of the oldest buildings in George Town and it showed the way that it was built inside of the shop. For our next food items we were directed outside to a little covered concession area in the courtyard. We got to try some AMAZING Pepper Jelly from Cayman Pepper Patch!

PepperJellyCracker_zpsqvibg7ii.jpg

The lady who makes this jelly has a pretty cool story, this is a truly local product. She grows the peppers, and makes small batches on the weekend. It is not some mass produced item and you can only get it here on the island, it is never shipped anywhere. If you want to find out more about Carol's story, just go to the website, it is awesome!

HotPepperJelly_zpsr5ry9cwb.jpg

Another taste we had here was of Tea! From a local company called Tea Time. We were able to smell a few of their varieties and then taste one, I thought it was lovely, Jeremy thought it was ok, he said he probably wouldn't order it, it wasn't really the type of tea he prefers. Too floral he said! I liked it though, so to each their own!

JeremyDrinkingTea_zpsj1qkv3bu.jpg

We finished up here and continued our walk. Learning more history and seeing some sights along the way. We ended up at our next stop. Most people would probably just walk right past this place and not think anything about it. If I ever go back, this may be the first place I end up in to eat! Singh's Roti Shop & Bar! Such great Rotis!!! Also, if you were interested you were able to try some "Caybrew" beer. I am not much of a beer drinker, but I did try it, then gave the rest of my sample to Jeremy!

VegetableRoti_zpszdx6ff1n.jpg

We were having such a lovely walk around George Town. I feel like most people that come here really stay on the main strip where all the stores are, or either head off to an excursion somewhere else on the island. It was really great to learn about it and see some local food places, and buildings around this area! One I really loved was the Library!

Library_zpswjcsczbo.jpg

Next up was the Tortuga Rum Company. We got to sample a little bit of rum, rum cake, and Jamaican patties. Grand Cayman has a lot of influence from Jamaica, which is why these particular items were of interest here. it is a very large part of the culture. The rum cake is actually made in Grand Cayman, and let me tell you it was some of the best rum cake I have ever eaten in my entire life! We made sure to remember that we wanted to get some when we came back here next week!

AndreaRumCake_zpsbuplsonn.jpg

The Jamaican Patties were also delicious!! Apparently if you go to Jamaica there are two very popular brands of patties to try Juici or Tastee. Marzeta our guide preferred the Tastee. We really loved the ones we had here so we made it a point to ask around when we got to Jamaica and try some there too!

JeremyPattie_zpsxmjpbw2f.jpg

We left there and continued our walk out back toward the main thoroughfare where we stopped by to have a look at the local fish market! It was set up on the beach and fisherman would just drive their boats up to the beach and unload their catch! I so wish I had somewhere like this at home. I mean how much fresher can the fish get!!

Fishmarket_zps0rs9jwmu.jpg

FishMarketTwo_zpsfjg61tbe.jpg

Sadly we were headed to our last location for the food tour. Strangely enough it was an Italian Restaurant!! It was called Casanova By The Sea! The owner of the restaurant had become quite beloved in Grand Cayman, when one of the hurricanes occurred he was in the middle of opening a restaurant and he was one of the first to get power and facilities back. For free, he fed anyone that needed food on the island until they got back on their feet. It was a great story and a huge reason why this particular restaurant is so important to the people of George Town! We had a delicious Chicken Penne Pasta Dish!! Oh my goodness, I was not expecting Italian food of this quality when we signed up for this tour!!

Pasta_zpsjt6esero.jpg

Lastly, we had THE BEST Tiramisu on the planet. I have had lots of tiramisu before, and this was on an entirely different level. Jeremy dislikes tiramisu and even he wanted more of this one!

Tiramisu_zpsgwksqgbk.jpg

It was sooo sooo good! If you ever go to Grand Cayman, seriously...you have to go to this restaurant and get this Tiramisu! Once we finished eating we got to sit around and talk with Marzeta and enjoy this lovely view of the Disney Magic from the restaurant before we parted ways with everyone to head back to the ship.

ViewFromCavianolas_zpsqmid07dr.jpg

I would highly recommend this food tour to anyone who loves food, history, walking tours, or just exploring a new destination! It was truly a memorable experience for us, and I definitely know some restaurants that I want to go to if we ever find ourselves in Georgetown again!

Next Up: Back to the Ship for what...oh right, more Trivia!
Love your trip report! We are going on our first cruise October 2016-- Western Caribbean on the Fantasy. We were unsure of port excursions, but after reading your trip report, we will definitely be looking into the food tour! Thank you so much for posting!

I always enjoy reading your trip reports, love your writing style. We are doing a B2b on the Wonder next year and I see that you have the same servers for both cruises, did you request to keep the same ones or you got them because you had the same stateroom for borh cruises, not sure if that is related.
Thanks!

Happy Anniversary to you both, will miss your TR updates but will look forward to instalments at the end of June!! X

Thank you so much!! We had a great Anniversary trip, so we are very happy! I should have the next update here in the next little bit, so your wait will finally be over...haha!

Just got caught up, your horseback riding excursion looks like SO much fun!! Woohoo for booking your next cruise for 12 nights!!! Happy Anniversary, enjoy your trip!!!

We had a fantastic time horse back riding! Definitely a highlight of the trip. The Chukka staff at the horse ranch was great, the views were awesome, the horses were very sweet too! Thank you for the Anniversary wish, and we had a fantastic trip in Iceland! Looking forward to finishing up this TR!

I am so glad you are enjoying it! You are so lucky getting to go on the Fantasy! We have not been on that ship as of yet, but have heard lots of great things about it! I hope you get to do the Food Tours, they are always one of our top must do things when we go to a new place! Happy Planning for your cruise!!

I am so happy that you like them! So much fun, I hope you love doing a Back to Back! So the server thing, there are a couple of things that happened for us. When we booked the cruise, they asked if we wanted to request different servers for each cruise or the same ones. Then toward the end of the first cruise, our head server came over and asked us if we wanted to keep the same serving team or switch to a new one. I don't think it is related to your stateroom, but it could be somehow so not exactly sure. But it was very easy for them to just have us keep the same set of servers! Hope that helps! and Thanks for reading along!

Friday, April 24, 2015 - Part One
Today was our very last Day At Sea on our cruises! Going home was getting really close and by this time we were beginning to feel a little homesick. We woke up and got dressed and ready around 10:00, then walked up to Cabanas to grab some breakfast. For some reason this morning we were both in the mood for some Mickey Waffles!

MickeyWaffles_zpscc9bhgxe.jpg

The weather was very nice so we chose to sit outside and watch everyone on the deck while we were eating our breakfast.

JeremyEatingByThePool_zps7sfwqdup.jpg

Once we finished up with our breakfast we walked down to Shutters to look at our photos to see if there were actually any that we liked or wanted to get, but we didn't really see any, then we journeyed down to White Caps and Main Sail to get our magnets from the cruise and any other little things we wanted to buy!

MickeysMainSail_zpsdz83prsu.jpg

We ended up getting 2 magnets, and of course I had to have the Animator's Palate butter knife for my Dining Room buffet. I love adding little Disney touches here and there around my house. Nothing too crazy, just random things and if people notice they are Disney, that's awesome, but if not it is my little secret!! One of my favorite things is the Jungle Cruise Elephant I have in our bar area in our Carolina Room, If I have time I will take a photo of how many little hidden Disney touches I have in there...haha!! Anyways back to what we really want to read about!

We finished shopping and walked down to the porthole cubby seats by Keys to read over the Navigator and plan out our day. When we had a plan in place we headed back to the room to drop off our things, and grab our books, we were going to try and do a little bit of rest and reading! We started down on Deck 4 looking for somewhere to sit with no luck, then we headed up to Deck 9, then 10, still no luck. With nowhere to sit outside, we headed down to O'Gills where there always seemed to be plenty of room and quiet, just no Caribbean Breeze.

JeremyReadingOGills_zpsmouxhjyd.jpg

At around 12:45 we moved from where we were sitting at the windows up to the bar to have a chat with Andys and Jeremy got his usual and I opted to have another Pina Colava!

PinaColava_zpsi9cvxfab.jpg

JeremyOGillsBeerGlass_zpstwyjjwg9.jpg

At 1:30 we walked up to Deck 4 to the Walt Disney Theater to see the show of Great Salome (who coincidentally is from Iceland). The show was mostly singing and her playing the violin, but it was pretty good! I am not sure if whoever was doing the sound mixing was having a little difficulty because things just sounded a little off at some points, but other than that it was really cool to hear some Disney songs from Brave and Frozen, along with songs from her album!

Once the show was over we walked up to Deck 9 to Pete's Boiler Bites to grab us some chicken sandwiches, they were becoming a definite favorite of ours over these two weeks!

BoilerBites_zps0gttglba.jpg

When we got our food we walked around for ages it felt like, looking for somewhere to sit and eat it, but just like earlier we found absolutely nowhere to sit down. We ended up just going back down to the room to eat our food.

BanishedToOurRoom_zpslzxelemz.jpg

We didn't want to waste any of our Castaway Cay day packing our things so we went ahead and got a jump start on doing it today. While we were in the room we went back and forth between watching movies and looking at the map to see where we were!

PositionAtSeaCCBound_zpsge3wemes.jpg

We had gotten one entire suitcase packed and ready to go, then around 4:30 we started getting showered and ready for Semi-Formal night which was going to be in Animator's Palate. I wanted to remember our stateroom number so I decided to try and take a few artsy shots of it. I am rather happy with the way they turned out!

Next Up: 70's Disco Dancers...yep, it's time for bed!

Bonus Post (Because I Brought it up and wanted to Deliver)
We are decorating our house and each room has multiple Disney themed items. So far we have completed our bedroom 100%, thank goodness it took a while! The next room we are currently working on is our dining room (Sun Room). So far the room is about halfway complete, but the bar area is completely finished. So I wanted to show you guys the photos and you can either guess which things are Disney items or just read at the bottom under the Spoiler section to see if you guessed correctly or if you didn't want to guess, you can just read which items represent what! Have fun, I hope you like them!

So did you make your guesses?

Photo 1: I Use Antlers in All of My Decorating...which is of course a reference to Gaston
The books are a reference to Belle and her love of reading, the one book in particular is the color of Belle's Dress at the beginning of the film!

Photo 2 & 3: Yes, the crab is a reference to Sebastian from The Little Mermaid, it also fits into our home theme because we live on the coast.

Photo 4: The Map of France, is also a reference to Beauty & the Beast

Photo 5: There are 5 Deliberate Disney References in this photo!

Photo 6: The Kona Vacuum Coffee Brewer, it is the same one they use to brew their coffee at Victoria & Albert's!

Photos 7: The tea cups are of the same pattern they use at the Garden View Tea Room at Grand Floridian, we love going to Afternoon Tea there to wind down from Magic Kingdom!

Photo 8: A little difficult to see, but the dog with keys as a reference to Pirates of the Caribbean!

Photo 9: The Jungle Cruise Elephant, which is the one that started this post because I mentioned it in the last TR post!

Photo 10: What other way to display a piece of Goofy art than "goofily"...on its side! Goofy was always my favorite character while I was growing up and in this one he is fishing, which also goes with our coastal them to our home!

Hope you enjoyed looking at these photos! Next Up: More Trip Report!

:cool1: Woohoo...an update!! Happy Anniversary, hope you had an amazing trip! Love the subtle touch of Disney in your home!

Friday, April 10th, 2015 (Day One)

One time we were in Atlanta, at Turner Field, on a tour of the stadium, and other people in the tour were DVC members too! Another time, we were at the airport and we were in the security check line and one of the TSA guys asked us where we were headed and when we told him on a Disney Cruise, he informed us he was a DVC member and was headed out on a Fantasy Cruise with his family in a few weeks! There are seriously DVC members and Disney Lovers everywhere, it is so much fun to get to talk to people that love Disney just as much as we do!

If you have ever been on I-95 in Georgia, you will know that on a certain portion of the road...you start to smell something. It seems to be coming from some sort of factory looking plant off to the side of the road, never really sure what type of factory it is or what they do there...but we do know that it smells...every...single...time!

If you're anywhere near Jesup/Screven/Ludowici, that's the paper mill.
It's pretty nasty. DH's sense of smell is pretty much gone, after living by it for 18 years (and working in it for 4).

Thanks for replying. Finally booked the second cruise in the same room. :)
Love, love the style of your home.

Happy Anniversary!!!
