4/12 - According to today's post on Jim Hill Media, Disney Magazine apparently closed up shop last week for good. Too bad. :sad2:

Read all the gory details here:

4/13 - OK, there are now a couple more logs to throw on the fire.

First, Susan Strother Clarke from the Orlando Sentinal writes that Disney has officially confirmed the the next issue of Disney Magazine is scheduled to be the last. Article here:

But wait, there's more.

In today's update, Jim Hill writes about all of the flak that the suits at Buena Vista Magazines are taking over this decision. The article is worth a read, but basically Jim says that many other Disney department heads (theme parks, theatrical, etc.) were not consulted about this decision and are very upset at the prospect of losing this avenue to get their message out to the die-hard Disney fans.

Stay tuned!

:sad1: :sad: :sad1: :sad:

This is the only magazine I had a subscription to! :(

I just sent back the form to renew for 4 more years last week! I guess I won't be getting them. :sad2:

Well that just stinks, but it is understandable. Thanks for letting us know.

I signed up for a 2 yr. subscription 9 months ago :sad2: I wonder if I'd get a refund :rolleyes:

I just renewed about 4 months ago. Just read the article and it states that subscribers will be given the choice of a refund for their remaining issues or a subscription to family mag for the remainder of time. Of course, I already get Family mag, so I'll go for the refund, whatever they calculate to be.

From the article referenced:

As to what happens next ... I'm told that a mass mailing is currently being prepared. Which will then be sent out to all "Disney" Magazine subscribers, explaining that DM has ceased publication. These folks will then be offered two choices. Disney will A) agree to refund any monies still owed for the issues that are left on that reader's subscription OR B) offer to transfer their "Disney" Magazine subscription over to "Family Fun" magazine for the remainder of their subscription.

Less Disney mail, I'm so sad. :sad2: I loved Disney Magazine. I feel so sorry for the employees. Seems like they could have given them more notice.

I think that in this day of the internet the magazine was just redundant. I find out info much better info online. I liked the "interest" stories, but never enough to spend money on the magazine.

This was the only magazine I truly looked forward to...

...the letters from other Disney fanatics;
the stories about individual cast members;
Ask Dave;
the quizzes, puzzles, etc.

Yes...if you were looking for timely information, Disney MAgazine was not the "source" to go to. But, if you were looking for a smile...looking to brighten a rainy day, Disney Magzine whoops Sports Illustrated, Time, Readers Digest, Family Fun (all of which we have received at one point or another).

I personally will miss it! :sad:

I Just did the AP discount subcription, only recieved one issue, now what will happen? Darn it I have every issue that I have ever gotten from DC and those I had to buy aswell. When will they let us know, and how?

well considering that eisher used it ALOT....

I didn't like the issue completely devoted to Paris - then after stating they would never do that again - they did with California...

but yes I definitely enjoyed all the articles about WDW - it was very good - I like the article on one day touring of all the parks.

their staff was pretty wonderful!!!

I actually really liked the Paris article.

I did an intenet serach no mention of this closing came up. I also searched the Orlando Sentinel site which does a good job monitoriing Disney. Nothing there either.

Well, we've got two sources now. Courtesy of Savedisney.com:

The Save Disney piece implies that this may still be a reversable decision. Not sure if that's a realistic approach, or if the Save Disney folks are just trying to rally the troops around another cause. :confused3

Some folks are reporting that they called customer service and were told that the rumors are false. Well, if you read the Jim Hill column, he notes that folks in the West were informed but not yet those in the East. That's one possible explanation for the confusion.

Stay tuned...

I am just going to hang around for a while. (Save Disney is not always a reliable souce IMHO, but Jim Hill usually is. Plus I wouldn't be surprised if Save Disney got it's info from Jim Hill LOL!)

I always thought of it as the MKC/Disney Club publication. I was pleasantly surprised when it kept going after the "clubs" closed up shop. I'll be very sad to see it go. (and now we have another non-existent DVC perk).
