You guys are so great! I'm sorry but I've thought of another question I want to ask the "experts".

I am looking to buy some Disney Luggage, specifically a hard-side carry-on (21") and a medium (~26") sized suitcase. BUT...I don't want to buy them before I go - I want to buy them while I'm at Disneyland and use them for the travel home.

Kind of looking at something like this:

Does anyone know if they sell Disney themed luggage anywhere at Disneyland? I tried looking on the shopping section of the Disneyland website, but couldn't find luggage listed specifically at any of the stores, only "accessories".

We bought three pieces of luggage, including the one you linked too at the gift shop at the Disneyland hotel over christmas, we love them.

I think I saw something like this in World of Disney. It may be worth peeking in there or calling Disneyland Merchandise.

We have bought luggage before at the World of Disney store and the store in the hotels (Grand Californian). We did not buy the one you seek but they are likely to have it.

On our last trip we were packing our bags to go home and we realized that we had way too many souvenirs so my DW sent me down to the gift store in the GCH hotel to buy a duffle bag because she saw some there earlier in the week. Well I got there and nothing caught my eye... Nothing except a similar hard shell case to the one you linked to. So I ended up buying the 28" (or 30"? the big one) version of that suitcase and I can tell you my DW was none to pleased... If I can remember correctly it was like $250 or $280... But I tell you this... It is a beautiful piece of luggage... Whenever it comes down the baggage carrousel at the airports people are always fawning over it... I purchased it in June of last year so I don't know if it is still around... Looks like it may have been replaced with the one you linked to... Anyways.... This is the pattern for the one that we have:

I just arrived home Monday night from a DL trip. My friend and I were commenting on how we would like to have the Disney luggage, but the price keeps me from buying any. I might consider a carry on size sometime, as the bag handlers at the airports sure do abuse our luggage.
Back to your question...The World of Disney store in DTD had many to choose from. I believe there were 4 or 5 different patterns. They did have the hard sides. I also saw them at the store in the DLH. But, I think the World of Disney store had more varieties. :tink:

Thank you guys so much!!! I am very excited that I will have lots of options and I think I will definitely go ahead and treat myself to some snazzy new bags!

I have had my eye on these cute Disney pieces, but I've been hesitant because I'm used to soft sided luggage and I fear the carry on won't fit in the overheads. Also, someone reviewed them as "looking flimsy". Can anyone tell me what exactly they are made of...how they hold up and how well they work as carry ons? I rarely check my bags...would likely buy the small one. Any help would be so greatly appreciated. I very much hate to spend the money before I know more.

Thanks :)

The hotel gift shops usually have a great selection. they sometimes have different choices at each one too, so if you don't see what you want in one, they might have in another. I love all my disney suitcases, they are expensive, but it is something you will have for a long time, and they sure are easy to pickout at the airport! Right now the disney store online has 25% off this weekend. Might be worth it to buy ahead with such a great discount.

Not specific to Disney luggage, but be aware that carry on sizes for many airlines (American, Delta, United...) is now 22 x 14 x 9. Many bags labelled as "carry on" are too large, bring a tape measure to verify dimensions.

I gave them a real good 'thrice over' at the DLH last year and ended up not buying. I really wanted one, but just couldn't justify the price They just seemed thin and 'flimsy'. The latches and hinges didn't seem all that strong either. They're a molded plastic & just didn't seem all that well made. They seemed as if they would scratch easily, too. I probably would have broken down and bought one if they'd been 1/2 the price, since our trips to Disney are via car & I think they'd be OK for that. Plus I can usually cram all the souvenirs I buy into my soft sided luggage for the trip home since there's an extend-o zipper and the sides will bulge. Can't do that with hard-sided. Hubby usually never notices how much MORE I come home with since it's all packed away.:ssst:

I think they'd be OK for light usage, but they just don't seem like they'd hold up to the beatings luggage can get via baggage handling and carousels.

The DLH store next to Goofy's Kitchen usually has 2 types of luggage as does the Acorn Gifts at GCH. I purchased the stand up one about 2 yrs ago and it's lasted just fine (and we travel a lot).

I think if you like it----go for it. A cute souvenier to have from the parks! :lovestruc

My dear father (RIP) worked for a major airline for 26 years. He always told everyone to not buy luggage that they really love because of the way the airlines will handle it. I have never bought anything expensive for that reason. When we go this summer, I will be packing light in a backpack and stuffing it overhead.
