We really need luggage for our upcoming trip and I've been searching for a good deal. The closest I've come was a 5 piece Samsonite set for $160. Then I saw a 3 piece set of Disney luggage for $65. I can't spend a lot but I want something that's pretty good quality and can withstand baggage handlers at the airport. Does anyone have the Disney luggage? How well does it hold up? Are they nesting pieces and can you attach them to each other so one person could pull 2 cases if need be? Sorry for all the questions, I just don't want to buy something I'm going to regret! Thanks!:flower3:

I bought Dd the 3 piece set when it was on clearance on Disneyshopping. She hasn't used it yet so I can't speak to it's durability. We're not using it this trip since we're also doing DCL and are taking rolling duffels to save space in our stateroom. We do each have a carry-on Disney rolling duffel that we are taking in a few weeks. I got these on E-bags and they often have other pieces on that site. They would probably be more expensive but maybe? more durable than the other set. Sorry that I can't give you a better idea of the usage.:sad1:

that the previous poster talked about. The large one went with me to las vegas a few weeks ago and traveled thru the airport treatment just fine. You need to be careful not to be overweight with the large one - I was at 42 lbs without using the zip out to enlarge the suitcase - don't know if the other ones attach but I don't think so - gave those to a younger extended family member who needed some smaller luggage.

I'd go for the Samsonite. I have two sets of the Disney luggage. The first time I used the large suitcase, the wheel broke off and the zipper tore (we flew). My daughter used the second set twice before the zipper tore. The luggage isn't sturdy enough for flying. The smaller suitcases have withstood regular car travel, however.

I'll second that

I have had my Disney luggage for 4 years now and it looks good as new. I don't fly a ton, but I do check my baggage when I fly. The luggage has been to NYC, Seattle, Florida, New Orleans, Charlotte, Omaha. So far, so good. Zippers work, wheels intact, grips are comfortable. The bags nest when not in use. I have never had a problem with it. And it really looks nice!:cutie:

I agree! I LOVE my Disney Luggage. BUT the first time i used it the wheel broke off.... it's been to disney world 4 times and i finially have to throw it away. The handle that u pull it from feel off... and the plastic on the sides is now broken. I plan on buying some quality luggage and sewing Mickey patches on it!

Buy the Samsonite. The zippers broke on both pieces of our Disney luggage the first time we used it.

Sounds like we all have/had the same not-so-sturdy Disney luggage. The first time we used ours, a wheel broke off the large one and the 2nd largest one. Fortunately, it was the opposite wheels so I took them to a luggage repair store and they put the 2 same wheels on 1 suitcase (the smaller one) and put 2 new, sturdier wheels on the larger one. I don't remember how much it cost, but I really wanted to keep them. Now, the zipper is coming loose on the large one and they don't look very red anymore, after going through checked luggage and baggage claim a few times!!

i also had my wheel replaced and i took it to a luggage repair store and they said they wouldn't fix it becasue it was "throw away luggage". i was offended! I found somewhere else to fix it... now i know what the guy meant. lol Because now i have to throw it out! lol

Dont get the Disey if you want it to last .Mine didnt make 2 trips from DFW-MCO. The wheels fell off and the zippers have all browken. The little carry on is all that is left. Also when you get it .... IT SMELLS bad ! I remember the threads on that . Lord knows I almost threw mikne away had I not read on here how to get the smells out

Not only have the wheels broken and the handle that extends broken, but the hard plastic inside that gives the suitcase its shape completely broke apart in pieces. it now looks like a large square soft duffel.

I agree, it's definitely throw away luggage. too bad, we had the red set and I really liked it! but now I have to replace it. it's only 2yrs old.

I have a ouple of Disney bags, but they are carry on size, so they do not go thru the stress of checked bags. (I mean they are the size that actually IS carry on, the smallest size). They are holding OK, but really the quality is just so-so.

I just got new luggage, very high quality, at a close out store called Tuesday Morning. I am not sure if they are all over the US. They have high quality closeouts for 75% off, or more. The brand I bought was Pathfinder Eclipse. One thing I wanted was a carry on piece that was wheeled that would fit a laptop if necessary. (I have shoulder issues). I could never buy stuff that good if it was regular retail!

I have some Disney luggage I bought about 2 years. Its the red set. I paid $39 for the 3 piece set. I think it's held up really well. I mostly use the 2 smaller pieces and almost never check my luggage though.

Well I'm so glad I posted this! After reading all of your reviews I've decided to stick with the Samsonite luggage. I'm so disappointed but I would have been really upset if I had spent the money and had it fall apart after one trip to Disney! We don't travel that often so I'm hoping with the Samsonite we won't need to buy anymore for quite some time. Thanks for all of your input, it's very much appreciated!:thumbsup2

Mine have been to Jacksonville (flew), WDW x3 (flew all three times), Europe (Flew to NYC- then flew to London- then took the train to Paris- then bussed to Amsterdam then flew home), a DCL trip (flew), Las Vegas (flew), NYC again (flew) and two more trips to visit my brother in Orlando (flew!)..

And they're doing just fine. :confused3

We have one small luggage for DD. It is medium quality and I don't think it can handle too much in the way of rough handling. As we drive every year this isn't an issue.

I checked to see what airline pilots used and bought a Briggs and Riley for myself. It is expensive (was $280 for one large piece) but incredibly solid and guaranteed for life. Also has a lot of great compartments.

I have bought Disney luggage in the past, and the stuff put out by childrens place (or whoever it was running the Disney store for the last couple of years) was total crap! But I have also bought Winnie the pooh luggage from WDW, and that lasted for a very long time (years), but its also really expensive. So I am guessing the Disney luggage deal you found will be made poorly.

the 5 piece Samsonite set for $160 is a FANTASTIC DEAL!!!!

And Samsonite luggage comes with a very long warranty! (years, and years and years). I paid $150 for a 3 piece set a few years ago, but I wanted a garment bag and had to pay $150 ON SALE for the one to match my set.... it was reg $300. :scared1:

go for the Samsonite! It may not be as cute, but it will last forever.

If you want to look around I'd try ebags.com. One of the best sites online to buy luggage. And if you go through Ebates.com you get 6% back, and they have multiple offers going right now. And if you're not a member of Ebates right now, they are giving away $10 gift cards to just join.

I also agree though that the Samsonite deal is AWESOME.

One of the wheels feel off our large bag the first time we used it. It did not even make it to WDW in one piece.

Throw away luggage seems like a good way to describe it.
