I just read on ALLEARSNET's weekly newsletter that Disney is lowering the required points to join DVC to 100 (rather than 160) if buying direct... temporarily. :confused3 Has anyone else heard this and can confirm?

A few months back Disney started offerring a deal at AKV for new buy-ins at 100 points. How long that will last is unknown.

we are purchasing 100 points from AKK, we are signing this saturday in disney doorway to dreams in schaumburg, illinois.

I just read my newsletter too and my first thought was "I didn't read about this on the DIS";) I must have missed it.

I am sure they want to sell out the rest of AKL to allow for BLT.

Sales are slow so Disney will offer all kinds of deals and incentives.

This started at the beginning of the summer. We were already DVC members, but I was able to start a new UY using this new minimun buy in and get into the GC Founding Members Program.

Could anyone please send me the link to this information? The 100 points acquisition is for anybody or only for previous DVC members? How much is the price for each point?

Thanks in advance!

Mauricio

Anyone could buy in at the 100 point minimun at AKV only.

We just went on a DVC tour this past Saturday. We were told that we could buy in to AK at 100 points and receive $8/point off. Or we could buy 160 points and receive $8/point off and an extra 160 points to use before AKV opens at SSR. In order to receive these offers, we had to start the paperwork during our stay.

I just saw other posts on the board that explain it better. We're just in the investigative stage and learning the lingo.

I doubt that's the entire motivation behind this move. DVC just started selling the 300+ rooms at Kidani Village back around May. They are going to be selling AKV points for at least a couple of years regardless of what happens with BLT.

IMO, this move was mostly designed to chip away at the resale market. Until now the only way to buy less than 160 points was via resale. Now DVC has come up with their own alternative.

It's worth noting that you can only buy 100 points OR 160+. You can't buy 120 or 140 or anything in between. It's either 100 points or any number over 160. Also some sales incentives do not kick-in at thresholds under 160.

If this move was really designed to combat slow sales, they would have allowed folks to buy any number of points 100+, and they would be offering better incentives at sub-160 levels.

When sales started to slow DVD offered the 100 deal as a test. I was told that after the first two weeks DVD was very disappointed and had sold less than 20, 100 points contracts. Since then they decided to keep the 100 point deal due to "economic indicator's" with the idea that everyone needs more than 100 points and they would sell them add ons later.
