Disney Lost/found,, I"m A Bit Confused

So then tell me, did your actions as the receiver come from your experience as someone who turned something in?

Sure :D

Well, the stirring of the pot comments notwithstanding--here is our experience with WDW Lost and Found.

DS lost his hoodie in Fantasyland one evening. We checked at City Hall on our way out, and no dice. We checked at City Hall the next day, to be told by then, anything found would have been moved to Central Lost and Found. Went over to Lost and Found, told them where, about what time, and what we had lost. The CM dissappeared into the back, and emerged TA-DAHHHh with DS's hoodie.

So it does take several hours, if not overnight for something to be logged in at Central Lost and Found.

I would actually call back again when someone different amswered and ask the same question. Let us know what happens.

I had a good experience with Lost&Found. I lost my wedding ring on the first day of my honeymoon. I lost in on Splash Mountain and was able to give them the exact place where it fell off. (my hand got wet and when i shook the water off, I also shook the ring off). I called central lost and found the next morning as directed, but the did not have it. I called lost and found in MK and they said they did not have it, but when i went down there, they did have it and it was returned.

I'm sure they get lots of items and it takes time to catalog all of them.

Lost and Found is a pretty efficient operation at WDW. Goes to GS at that park to be transferred, as said, to Central. Left a jacket at Casey's, went to City Hall some hours later, described it, CM went back and brought it out to me, with a smile.

Some people in the world are sleaze balls, fact of life. Hopefully, as I can see from most people on this thread, are not, and are trying to als oteach their kids not to be sleaze balls. Always will be a few though, fortunately, they are few.

I think the right thing was to turn it in and not worry about it.
I have lost a camera bag with a video camera, reg. camera, film, sunscreen, autograph book you know everything. I was devestated! We just filmed my sons first hair cut.
The bag must have fallend off of the stroller on the boat ride back.
I did call all around went to the lost and found. No one had it....
but said rest assure everything turns up.
they said to call the next day to the main lost and found.
And guess WHAT there it was! Everything in tact!

We then lost on another trip a hand held walkie talkie. It fell off right after Count down. I felt it drop but with the crowd of people getting off I couldn't turn back and grab it. When the crowds thinned out I went back it was gone. I thought for sure it was lost for ever. By the time we got back over to the lost and found. We paged it and there it was!

So what I am saying, you may have spoken to a different CM and the bag was already take to central lost and found.
Turning it in was the right thing to do.

Good thing a certain poster is not my child....you'd be put in time out so fast your head would spin...not to mention losing your computer privileges.

Your parents must be so proud of your ethics.

:rotfl:

I'm just realistic. :p

We were at Downtown Disney Saturday night and ran into my husband's coworker and his family. We stopped them to say hi, but they were in a hurry because he had just left his NEW digital camera/camcorder on a (bus? tram? don't think it was monorail.) I can't remember what he said. They were on the way back, and he said that fortunately he remembered the number of the (whatever it was). Hopefully someone turned it in. I'll have to have my DH ask.

I lost a pair of expensive sunglasses in the MK. For some reason I didn't realize for a couple days. When I called central lost and found, they had them. I just told the the day I lost them, what park and described what they looked like. I am very thankful to whoever turned them in to Lost and Found. In return, whenever I see a lost item (even a little eeyore hair scrunchie) I turn it in to a castmember. :D

Well folks...Chad is only 19 so I guess he doesn't have the need for morals yet.

Just keep being honest and teaching your children to be honest. Maybe he will learn this himself one day. Evidently his parents did not do this for him.

My kids found $40 while in line at a ride at Hershey Park. As we left the park, we dropped it off at the lost and found. My kids were very skeptical that the money would get to the rightful owner and thought the guy behind the counter would pocket it. We told them that was on the guy's conscience. We did the right thing.

I've had two experiences with this, that I come to mind. The first was at Moody Gardens in Galveston, TX. I found a camera bag with an expensive camera in it. We turned it in immediately. I know how important pictures of your vacation can be.

The other was at Disney Quest. I was heading to the bathroom and spotted a wallet. No one around. I stood and looked in all directions. I opened it and looked at the ID so maybe I could recognize the owner. No dice. It was full of money and belonged to someone from the UK. All I could think of was how it would ruin his vacation to lose his wallet. I made a quick stop at the restroom (I had to go bad! :teeth: ) and took it to the lost and found. The guy happened to be standing there. He snatched it out of my hand without even a thank you for returning it. Do I wish I had kept it? No way! Returning something lost is the right thing to do. I know that I did the honest thing and it made me feel good.

Its possible that since each park has a Lost & Found that when you called it was a central number and either the camera had been picked up by the owner already or it had not been "listed as found" yet. It is very unlikely that you spoke with the same CM or even the same location.

We left a camera at Mama Melrose and realized it about 1/2 hour later. DH went back to MM and they didn't have it so we went and filled out a card at Lost & Found. The CM took all the information and told us the information was turned into a central location daily to check back the next day. Unfortunately we left the next day but within 2 days we got our camera back in the mail form WDW postage paid.

I am very confident that the L&F at WDW works very well I thank you all for turning in the found items!

I forgot to say that I'm sure lost and found works well at Disney. I once turned in an autograph book that we found at MK and they said since it had the name and address they could mail it to the person who lost it. That sounds pretty efficient to me. In fact, it made me wonder if we should put our cell phone number on camera bags. They might even call to try to find you.

I have a feeling that this is likely the case. If the camera was turned into a park lost and found or just a CM it takes a while to get it to central lost and found.

For example if a camera is turned into a store in Tomorrowland it's probablly a few hours before it's brought to the MK lost and found, from there it goes to central lost and found, usually at the end of the day. If you call Disney and ask for "lost and found" your are going to get central lost and found. Actually you might even get the GR phone room so if central hasn't logged the item yet it isn't going to show up in the computer, therefor they will say they don't have it.

I'm not saying the CM's are 100% honest 100% of the time but I'd give them a 99+%.

Here's something to add to this thread:

Turning in $100+ items to people working for an hourly rate usually doesn't work out. ;)

First off - I used to work for an hourly rate, once upon a time in college and high school, and I never pocketed the money people brough to me at the lost and found of the mall where I worked.

Most people are honest, and want to do what is right. It's a handful who are not honest, who make people think twice about doing what is right, but I assure you, in real life, they are few and far between.

Secondly, I would have turned the $100 in too. I have in fact, in the past. If the person I turn it in to wants to pocket it, then they can have it on their conscience. At least it won't be on mine.

$100 might not be much to you or me. But to some people, that is their savings. That could have been their groceries for a week, or money for medication. What if it was a child? A child who saved their allowance for a year to buy something that meant a lot to them? Or to buy a present for their mother?

I will always turn in money. Always. You may never know that it made it back to it's proper owner, but you can at least take some gratification knowing that YOU did what was right.

Speaking as a former CM I can assure you that stuff does make it to L&F. However if a guest turns something in somewhere other than City Hall/Guest Services it usually doesn't get taken down until the end of the night- unless it's a wallet/purse or something like a videocamera or expnsive camera (I know, I've made many a trip from Splash to city hall). So the lost item may not be at City Hall 20 minutes after you lost it. My advice is to put your name on or in everything, if we find it, it WILL get returned!!

btw, anyone know waht happens to unclaimed stuff? I do ::yes::

First, I agree with what everyone else said, I would turn these things in as well if I didn't see anyone around who was looking for it. (I just dropped my cellphone on the CT commuter rail a few weeks ago and was VERY grateful to a conductor who found it and called my dad with it to arrange where to leave it, just like anyone else would be grateful if I did the same for them.)

Second, I'M CURIOUS! What happens, txSleepingBeauty?

It has been my experience that no good deed ever goes unpunished. If you do good things, good things happen to you. May be not today or even tomorrow, but eventually.
This is not to say that bad things don't happen to good people, they surely do....but at the end of the day, I would prefer to have more plusses than minuses next to my name.
