OK just a warning this is gonna be long,,BUT I REALLY would like the imput of my fellow dis--ers.

Ok I went to Disney a couple days ago,,,,,fast 2 day trip....I was taking the monorail from TT to EPCOT.....nothing new....BUT when I got up to exit monorail I kicked SOMETHING under the seat,,,,looking down I found a BRAND NEW LOOKING Digital Video camera....NOW my first instinct was to hand it to the monorail driver,,,BUTTTTTTTTTTT,,,a few months back I had found a BEAUTIFUL gold and diamond braclet in KMART,,I gave it to the lady behind the counter,,and thought nothing more of it,,until 3 weeks later when I see the lady and the BRACLET on her arm,,,, I asked for a manager and told him ,,I FOUND IT and she kept it,,,,I DID leave my name and number with her that day......well the manager told he she had to give it back,,since no one had asked about it...turns out SOMEONE DID ask about it,,just not her,,,,it did get back to where it needed to be,,,but I feel that if I didnt see it on her, no on would have ever known..

OK SO TO THE CAMERA----I decided to keep it,,and call LOST and FOUND and leave my name and number,,so when the person called about it ,,I COULD KNOW IT GOT IN THIER HANDS (I am NOT accusing ANYONE at DISNEY of anything,,it was just what I felt I wanted to do) Well I called and was told that they do not do that,,that I needed to bring it in,,,that I could fill out a finders card,,and if no one claimed it I would get it back,, I was not worried in the least about GETTING the camera,,I wanted the owners to have it back--however I didnt just want ANYONE to get it!!!! I was told they would take down info as to where it was found , the time of day,,and they would ask anyone looking for it to tell them all this info and to discribe it so it got to the right person,,,,,, ok so i take it in,,I tell the man behind the counter I found it,,etc,,,he says ok THANKS and turns and puts it in a box,,,,,, NO questions as to where,, when,, NOTHING....and no mention about filling out a finders card....well I ASKED for the card,,,he seemed put out but gave it to me,,and signed it,,,,OK NOW here is where I get a bit PI***ED OFF...I waited about 3 hours, then called and asked if anyone turned in a camera ( I WANTED TO SEE WHAT QUESTIONS THEY ASKED ME TO RETURN IT TO ME,,in the end I would have said something that wasnt on the camera,,so it would seem it wasnt mine,,,,,WELL,, when I asked if anyone turned in a camera,,,I WAS TOLD NO CAMERAS were turned in,,,I was soooooooooo shocked I said NO one turned in any cameras,,he said NO no cameras....WELL I KNEW I DID........

so what do you make of this??? Do you think the people came and got it in thoses two hours??? Do you think if I called and told them I was the person who turned in a camera and wanted to know if it got to its owner they would tell me if it did??? i just dont understand them saying NO CAMERAS,,when I had just turned it in.... ok thanks so much for reading this far (I KNOW POP DADDY ISNT HERE LOL) I just wonder what ya all think.

Same exact thing happened to me....except it was a $100 bill we found at the MK.
I even called like you did, but nothing....

Kinda makes you sad, huh?

Are you saying you turned in a $100 bill to lost and found?

absolutely
What lesson would I have been teaching my 3 children if I pocketed it?

Common sense?

You've got to be joking......who teaches their kids that finding a $100 bill on the ground is "common sense". What I'd like to think I taught them is that it didn't belong to them, and therefore they should return it to someone who could help them find the owner. Sure, I could have paid for our dinner at LTT with that $100 bill, but I guarantee you that it wouldn't have tasted nearly as good as the meal that we paid for ourselves.

Just my own 2 cents......this thread was not meant as a debate as to whether turning in lost money was right or wrong....do you have any thing legitimate to add to the thread? or are you just here to insult me and my families ethics??

Here's something to add to this thread:

Turning in $100+ items to people working for an hourly rate usually doesn't work out. ;)

When DS 26 was 9, he had saved $75 to take to WDW. It took him a long time. He shoveled snow, saved his allowance, etc. etc.
On the first day he took his wallet to the arcade with the money in it. He left it on the machine next to him and it "disappeared". FORTUNATELY, so responsible parent knew when their own DS returned to the room with a FT. Wilderness wallet that some very upset little boy would be looking for his money. She turned it into the front desk at the Polynesian. When we decided to on a long shot check, the woman behind the desk happily handed it to us.
Maybe we were lucky. I have gone to lost and found and I don't know how they keep track of anything. Also, three hours might be a little too soon. One time I lost my purse and it was found and turned in. Maybe, sadly, things have changed.

Good Points Dawn. The other thing I'd like to add to my original post is that our good dead was certainly repaid when my kids lost $80 worth of legos from the Lego Store on that same trip. They too saved their money, and bought exactly what they wanted at DTD. In their youthful exuberance, they left the bag behind at one of our stops. Several phone calls to lost and found got the bag returned to us before our departure the next morning.

I'm thankful that some parent taught their kids right from wrong and they turned in what didn't belong to them. My kids are also thankful for that.

I would have turned the $ in too::yes::
I always think about how I'd feel if I lost it..... & not all CMs or 'hourly rate' workers are dishonest & it's definatley worth trying to get it back to it's owner.
The lesson it teaches children is not to keep something that doesn't belong to them & knowing I did the right thing is worth far more than $100.00.

I think that probably the people who lost the camera did call and claim it. It's a pretty important something to lose. I'm sure they were very grateful to you!

I too would have turned in the $$... How would I feel if I lost $100?? If the workers kept it- that's between them and their conscience... At least I would know I did the right thing.

Of course I would turn in the money, camera, or anything else that doesn't belong to me. My DD lost her visor at Epcot on this past trip and was upset because she never got it back. It doesn't matter that the visor cost less than $10, it was important to her.

Teaching our children about ethical and moral behavior is one of the most valuable lessons they can ever receive.

What she said! ::yes::

I sure hope that the rightful owners got their camera back! :(

Last week we found $60 (3 20's) while walking around World Showcase. It was rolled together and looked like someone had just dropped it out of their pocket but we didn't see it happen. I had my kids (5 & 10 ) with me and I told them it wasn't right to keep something that wasn't ours and we turned it in to a cast member. I doubt that they would ever find the owner since who would know where they lost it? I didn't want to ask since I didn't want them to think I wanted the money (it wasn't mine) but we did wonder what happens to $$$ that is turned in - I would like to think Disney gives it to some charity.

There were some who said they would NEVER have turned the $$$ in - and I am not trying to sound like a goody-goody, but it just wouldn't have been right to keep something that wasn't ours and I wanted to teach our children that. Last trip we found a camera on the curb at the Magic Kingdom and turned it in.

so what do you make of this??? Do you think the people came and got it in thoses two hours???

Possibly. They inventory all their items. It may not have been filed yet since you just returned it. I lost a radio and it was inventoried with other lost radios. I answered a few questions regarding its description, where it was lost, and it was given back to me. Fortunately I knew the channel it had been left on.

I also doubt Disney would tell anyone if a camera was turned in right away. If you simply asked, "was a camera turned in?" then they probably wouldn't tell you unless you had specific details about the lost item. If you gave specifics about where it was found and when it was lost and the brand chances are they may tell you more. It would be too easy to call up lost and found and ask about random items in the hopes one could lay claim to them knowing they were turned in.

Do you speak from experience on the turning in side or on the receiving side?

I'm glad that you're proud of that fact. Keep stirring the pot.

I speak from both. :D
So then tell me, did your actions as the receiver come from your experience as someone who turned something in?
