disney lost and found yard sale

Still the best tip I've ever read re: cameras.

The first picture on your camera should be an index card with your name, cell phone number, hotel information etc. This will be the first thing someone sees when they turn on your camera and make it easier to return to you.

It's free, easy and you never know!

That's a great idea!

We're going to Hawaii this summer for DD's Make A Wish trip and I will be sure that we do this with all of our cameras!

If we happen to loose one, I would hope that whoever finds it would be nice enough to at least return the memory card.

There is no special event for these items - they go to a place called Cast Connection/Property Control and they are just always for sale. Kind of like a full-time flea market. Only CMs can go to the Property Control part (junk trailer), no Guests at all.

what a fantastic IDEA! I had a cast member last year take a picture of my photopass card and I had never had them do that before... i thought that was brilliant too!

Count me in as one of those who have seen the sale. ;)

10+ years ago my ex's brother was a CM. He took us to the Property Control Sale one day. I guess this was back when guests could attend (as I saw another poster say this rule has changed).

I believe at the time you were only allowed 1 guest in with you at a time.

As another poster mentioned it was like a giant tent with tables ala flea market. I too vivdly remember the tables with tons of sunglasses or cameras piled up.

The most interesting thing though was the Disney property (as opposed to lost/found stuff). They had bath tubs and other fixtures lined up that you could purchase.

As for those that are complaining that Disney didn't do a good enough job of reuniting them with their lost items...I am definitely not one of those Disney-Can-Do-No-Wrong people, but seriously, it has to be a very expensive enterprise for them to staff and maintain these facilities with all of these lost items. I checked out the article another poster provided, and even though it was from several years ago it probably holds true still. I am sure that they do their best to get lost items back to an owner (and ship them free of charge), but it isn't always logistically possible.

any time i gave some one a new card i always took a pic of the card with their camera. That is if i wasn't at a character location or busy. Your pics are tied to the number, not the card. So as long as you have the number, it makes it easier to retrieve lost pictures

memory cards are removed from the camera and sold seperatly. I've never bought a used one, so i don't know if they're wiped clean or not.

wow, I am always amazed at what people leave behind and that disney is even able to reunite those items with their items!
Enjoyed reading the article too!

If there are that many things "left" then I have to imagine that Disney lost and found are not doing the the greatest job at trying to reunite travelers with their lost things. How many of us have called lost and found countless times to report a lost fanny pack, camera, sunglasses and been told they were not found or turned in? Evidently a lot of stuff is found and turned in and not returned to the owner. We called for days looking for DDs fanny pack. Bet someone else bought it at auction.

We left a cord in our hotel room once (for a BB) and never got it back. However last year DH's drivers license fell out of his lanyard. We called Lost and Found and said we last saw it somewhere in Fantasyland in the evening. He called back the next day and they had found it.

see property control is different than lost& found and cast connection.

property control sells old items no longer used around the resorts. Like bed linens, shower curtains, props (lots of props from pleasure island showed up), pretty much whenever they update an area, they sell the old stuff. And they sell old company vehicles including pargos.

The giant sale they hold once a year, used to be twice, is called s.a.l.s.a. Sale - spend a little, save alot. This is open to cast and their guest (up to the number on their main gate). The items here are mostly discontinued merchandise from the parks and cruise lines. Everything is discounted 70%. And outdated stuff, like 2008/09 stuff will sell for even cheaper. Same kind of items that are sold at the character premier stores.

Back then, they may have had special event days for this, but for the past many years, it is an actual building that is open to CMs. (actually 2 buildings) One is Lost and Found and damaged merchandise (affectionately called the Junk Trailer) and the other is half discounted regular WDW merch and half resort furniture, signs, park decorations, etc....all kinds of random stuff. The Junk Trailer is strictly CMs only, but Guests can be brought into the other building.

I completely forgot about SALSA, Yes, that is totally different from Property Control/Junk Trailer. SALSA is pretty much the same as the public Liquidation sales they hold in Celebration and elsewhere (Do they still do those??).

My DH used to be a CM for 8 years and we spent many trips to PC and CC. We never found much use for the lost and found stuff. As for the strollers, they are not really lost. Mostly it's the ones that people buy or bring and just leave behind because many are just alike (from the local stores). Disney leaves them outside in the rain and weather until they are sold. They are in the exact same condition as the day they are found, w/cookies and food stuck to them. There are boxes of chargers, I mean 100s of them. We went for the returned stuff. Often when you purchase something and then return it, Disney will send it off to the PC building to sell. That's the stuff we use to buy. We would go in and it would be "hat" day or tee-shirt day and often they would be $1 a hat or shirt. We scored many times on $5 sweatshirts too. We really miss this part of our trips, along with the 35% CM discount too. But I now spend so much less as there's nothing I need. Everything in the PC building was 75% off the org. or marked price, except when they ran specials (like hat day). We made lots of friends there too.

never seen a liquidation sale outside of property. I was a CM from 06-08, and i'm still listed on a main gate (which allows me into these CM only sales)....

It's really funny to see new CP's at a salsa sale. They go nuts. But for those of us that have been there time and time again, it's easy to pick out only the good deals.

The trailer still does the dollar t-shirts and hats. And other sale deals. I often find stuff for cheap to add to my bag swap.
I love getting sweatshirts for cheap, and sometimes find the princess dress for my nieces.

There was another thread that stated the Disney Liquidation Sales in Celebration will no longer be held as Disney has discontinued their association with them. Not sure if this is true...but it is what I remember reading.

Ahhh....thanks for the info. I know we went to one at a Performing Arts School as well, I wonder if they have discontinued all of them? I haven't heard anything about one in a while.
