Disney just bought Pixar for 7.4 billion

AWESOME! I was so sad when the Disney Pixar relationship dissolved. Their partnership has brought some of the best movies that Disney has made.

Most exciting is this part:

"Pixar Executive Vice President John Lasseter will become chief creative officer of the animation studios and principal creative adviser at Walt Disney Imagineering, which designs and builds the company's theme parks."

Mr. Lasserter appreciates classic hand-drawn animation as well as his own specialty of computer-generated. More to the point, he understands how important the story is BEHIND the animation. This should bode very well for Disney animation AND the theme parks.

I was waiting for this move. Cannot wait to see what will be in the works. WOOT!

How incredibly (no pun intended, ) awesome!!! This is very exciting and hopeful news indeed... :sunny:

uh... i thought disney owned pixar since like bugs life

Nope, they just had a movie deal. Disney owned the movies produced under the deal (and refused to re-negotiate sharing any profits with pixar which led to the fallout in the past). But they never owned pixar. Now they do.

Wow, hopefully after disney stock being in the gutter since... well, my kids were born back in the 90's lol, it may finally start to climb. ;)

No, Disney and Pixar have always been separate companies. Disney served as Pixar's distributor with a share of bocx-office and merchandizing profits. The film due out this summer, CARS, is the last that was to be made under the old contract. For the past two years, there has been an on again-off again discussion to write a new deal or go their separate ways. It will be interesting to see what develops out of this purchase. It may be just the thing to really give Disney a needed shot in the arm.

uh well CARS has a trailer in a movie that came out in like 2003

You could have bought Pixar "back in the day" for under 100million. But, oh great Eisner, you decided to hold out and pay nearly 8 billion....BRAVO!!

I am so glad Eisner is out and Iger bought Pixar. This is awesome!! Incredibles 2??

Yeah, the movie CARS was a movie that was part of the original contracted deal between Disney and Pixar.

This is SUCH a great move! I'm really looking forward to seeing awesome things!!!!

Even better for me is that Steve Jobs will be the majority shareholder AND on the board of directors of Disney.

Igor did very well with this deal and especially saying he will keep hands off of the "Pixar culture".

This is so exciting for me, since Pixar is close to my heart. This never would have happened under the old rule! Go Igar :cool1:

I just wanted to say WOOT WOOT! :teeth: I am happy about this too! And yes, it is about time! I can't wait to see what the future brings.

The addition of Jobs and Lasseter is definently the best part this deal. I'm looking forward to the new golden era of animation!

great now we can enjoy more pixar movies made for disney or something... well anyway while reading this, does this mean that John Lasseter who will become chief creative officer of the animation studios might get them to make hand drawn animation again? or am i thinking wrong or something i'm confusing me more and more
