Disney Job Fair 5/8 - 5/13

Wow, up to $8.50 an hour! And they make it sound like that's wonderful.

Actually, for Florida it is...Construction guys down here are lucky if they get $10/hr and that is to work in the blistering heat. Also Disney jobs have benefits, many companies down here do not offer benefits, or offer benefits that are so expensive the employees can't afford them.

And don't say "Oh but the cost of living is so much cheaper" It isn't. The cost of living compared to pay ratio do not pan out. Homes are expensive, especially in the Orlando area

Maybe in the bubble around Orlando, but nowhere else--I have a few friends here in the Tallahassee area who are ex-CMs who wish they could have stayed, but they weren't making enough at WDW to survive. One of them says that WDW is known as being one of the lowest-paying jobs around, but they made up for it in being a nice place to work. She just couldn't afford to stay.

Let's put it this way--they're making more working for the state.

I know, I live in FL and went though all of that when looking for a job. I really lucked out and found one that pays a bit more than that (not a fortune but above average) and I get benefits. Hence my new love with WDW! I could never afford to go before even though I only live two hours away. I hear you on the homes thing too. Ours has nearly tripled in value in five years.

That's why my comment. I'd go to job fairs and no one was offering anything close to a living wage. They still aren't but at least now I'm in the ballpark.

Too bad they don't offer "work at home" jobs for reservations. They would have a LOT of applications from people here on the DIS board! I would do it!

Disney (unless they've changed policy) is VERY generous with overtime too - it's pretty easy to bump your paycheck. When I did my CP, if I ever needed extra cash it was very easy to get OT without killing myself.

*anything over 40 hours (obviously)
*any 6th or 7th day (regardless of hours - if you only worked 20 hours in 5 days, day 6 and 7 are still OT)
*anything past 8 hours in one day is OT (more than 16 is doubletime)
*any shift that begins less than 8 hours after previous shift ends is OT (and the 9th hour and up of that shift would be doubletime - so pull a double after closing and you're making some good money)
*regular FT CMs got paid holidays, so if they worked a holiday they got paid holiday pay for the hours they worked, PLUS the full day's pay they would have recieved if they didn't work - a LOT of my coworkers volunteered to work Christmas while I was there because of it
