I have found very little information out there about IT interns at Disney in general. I can't promise I'll be able to share much about the process at all. I have considered blogging later on at least about the process if there is enough interest. There seems to be a blackhole when it comes to the IT part of the process as I discovered when going through it myself.

I have been accepted for a PI in spring 2016. If you have any questions, let me know. I can't answer most of them yet as I haven't arrived!

My son has applied for an IT internship for summer 2016

He is a junior at Georgia tech in CS and has about a 3.7 GPA with specialties in Media and Devices.

What kind of interviewing process did you go through?

Did he apply for the general one? I am not sure if my interview process was the usual. I had a general phone interview in September about 2 weeks after I applied. They just asked basic questions, about Disney and so forth. Then I didn't hear anything for two months before extending an offer. While some departments base their selections off the intial phone interview and don't have follow up interviews, I am not sure if this is the usual process for this particular IT PI. I have done a previous CP so I did have a previous track record with the company. GPA doesn't always mean a lot in IT, it can help but a 3.0 generally just weeds people out to a certain degree.

I personally don't have a particularly high GPA, it is above a 3.0. However, I have done 2 years in a helpdesk role, helped out with university's website and have done a summer IT internship. I did list most of my technical skills in my resume and I did include a cover letter.

Thanks for the input. He applied for a specific technology research position and told me that the process bar for the application showed it was still in the que.
So it will be a while longer before he hears
He also was set up for an interview for Facebook and was advised the interview would be intense with a lot of questions relating to how he would go about addressing specific algorithm issues and languages
I guess each company has unique selection criteria.

When you say in the queue, what do you mean? Which stage? If it is still in submission that means no one has looked at it yet. If it is in progress, that means a human being looked at it and passed him onto the next stage. All PIs have a phone screening if they are selected, however, they don't usually start that process until the applications close. Once the phone screening is completed, resumes are chosen and forwarded to the department. Then the department decides who they want to interview out of that group. You can remain in progress the entire time and not receive an offer. You can have 2 interviews. You can have just the phone screening. It honestly varies. Disney I believe cares more about who you are and how you learn. Every company is different.

I believe Facebook looks for both excellence in the field and experience. I've had companies that never test me on technical skills. Programming skills are usually only test if the role you're applying for requires technical expertise. Some companies only care about if you're willing to learn and if you have experience already working with technology. And yes, when I applied for Google, the first round of interviews is tough. They don't care about GPA much, if you make it to the interview round, they're looking more at you, it means you're considered qualified for the role. IT is a strange animal when it comes to what companies want. Your son should google and look at questions that are specific to the role. Glassdoor helped me out quite a bit. Quora sometimes have information on it as well. But what your son is applying for may be different than what I applied for. I am not program oriented so I wouldn't end up getting algorithm questions.
