Disney isn't so magical without spinach...

Okay so it's still the same amount of magical, but I just got home and wanted to share with other spinach lovers...

THERE IS NO SPINACH TO BE FOUND AT WDW!

This was kinda amusing a few days ago when I had not heard anything about the spinach ordeal (the only TV I watched was the top 7 things to do at Disney!) So I order the Chicken Florentine at Tony's and it arrived with ham and cheese on it. I was confused as the waiter made no mention of the dish being sans spinach and he had to explain to me about the e-coli epidemic. I thought I was on Candid Camera or something.

After that meal, we were told many times that there was no spinach being served at Disney except for spinach dip. Hopefully someone will return and let the spinach lovers of the board know when the great green veggie returns.

I guess it is better to be safe than sorry, but they did say that cooking the spinach would take away the risk of getting E-Coli, so in cooked spinach dishes it *shouldn't* be a problem.

i was reading on the FDA website that yes, cooking *does* kill the bacteria, but they said you had to be super-careful to avoid cross-contamination with the cooking surfaces, other foods, your hands, etc.

it's no wonder that no restaurants at Disney want to serve it, even cooked -- it's probably a law suit waiting to happen!

No spinach at WDW? Oh darn, I'll have to have a :mickeybar instead. What torture.

When I saw how many people are ill, and how many states are involved, I'm glad I don't like it!

My friend, who works for a subsidary of GE, forwarded an email to me that was sent to all their international contractors. The email was a warning to all who were traveling to the US not to eat any fresh spinach here.

I also noticed at the grocery that all spinach was removed from the shelves in the produce section. Scary stuff.

I don't think you will be finding fresh spinach anywhere these days. I know all the groceries stores have pulled it in this area.

I just finished up a temp job with a grocery chain and we had to make sure all of our stores not only disposed of the spinach. . . but we had to make sure they opened and dumped the bags. If someone went dumpster diving and pulled the full bags out and got sick, we'd have been liable. It was pretty tense since one little girl died nearby - even though (regardless of what her family says) it was determined that she died before the timeline of this epidemic.

I live 20 miles from the one confirmed official death from this outbreak so "no spinach at Disney" is not a surprise to me. In fact, I'd be shocked if they were still serving it! I'm a spinach lover but until the Feds have given the "all clear" I won't be eating spinach. Most local restaurants have pulled it from their menus too. Glad the nation is taking this problem seriously until the authorities get things under control.

We just got back and no there is no spinach being served on Disney property. The waiter at Wolf Gang Puck told us that all Spinach was going to be replaced effective today with artichokes. That all Disney is supplied through one produce supplier in California and that bought all produce completely out from them so the could replace the spinach.

We had spinach at LeCellier on Saturday as part of our tomato stack appetizer. We had heard only minimal information about the e-coli outbreak, but we asked our server about it. She advised us the chef was aware of the suituation and they were taking proper precautions. So far we both feel fine :thumbsup2 Yesterday at Coral Reef there was no spinach being served, so somewhere between Saturday and Monday I am guessing they decided to take the safer course of action.

I do think the servers should inform guests ordering meals that are "supposed" to contain spinach if they don't have it and not.

I'm sure there are still many of those not aware of the situation, especially guests from foreign countries. Also consider that certain establishments may not be able to get the spinach from their suppliers. If retail stores are disposing of the spinach you can bet wholesalers are too.

I just returned from the grocery store and was shocked to see fresh spinach still on the cooler shelves!! There was no notice about the e.coli epidemic or anything! We love fresh spinach -- in salads, sauteed, etc... If I hadn't been watching the news, I wouldn't have known not to buy it!

That's crazy!! Unless the spinach on your grocer's shelves is grown locally...I know here in WI some LOCAL suppliers have a HUGE demand right now, and the restaurants which are still serving it are provided by local suppliers.

Now our local news reported today that some of the infected people may have contacted it from a local county fair... :confused3 Regardless, there are a lot of sick people within an hour's drive here! :sad2:

Isn't it just that one company that has had issues? Why ban all of it? I noticed the brand that has caused issues is organically grown. Wouldn't non organic spinach from another grower be okay?

On a side note...

Breaking News: Bluto has offed Popeye and kidnapped Olive Oil. So very sad. If only he had his spinach.

Honestly it is a safety measure. I know it is a bummer but it is for our own good. I had a room mate get sal-manila in college and it was not pretty. She was down for 2 weeks with severe flu like symptoms. Seriousely after seeing this first hand you don't want to risk it.

well I guess in 50's PT they cant make you eat all of your greens then!!! :rotfl:
