There can be contamination from the roots up in which case cooking the spinach will not kill the e-coli. I noticed that someone mentioned that cooking the spinach may make it safe. That is not necessarily true. Be careful.

Yep. I saw something on the news where officials said if it's an irrigation problem, then cooking won't make it any safer. And since they haven't figured out where the problem started, I would be very careful with even cooking the spinach.

Isn't it just that one company that has had issues? Why ban all of it? I noticed the brand that has caused issues is organically grown. Wouldn't non organic spinach from another grower be okay?

The "one company" supplies spinach to a few dozen different companies (including biggies like Dole). They are a MAJOR supplier which is why the problem affects so many.

I would trust local/organically grown spinach if I wanted it bad enough (and could afford those prices).

Yeah, the farm it has been traced back to has a lot of different brands under it. And they're still making sure it's just the one farm, and that other brands aren't supplied by distributers that buy from that farm, etc.
