Disney is the HOTTEST ticket in town!!!!!

Haha!!!!! You are speechless and that's all good. But- there were over 50,000 FastPass+ reserved before the system finally crashed......that's the silver lining on the cloud. This is just a little "kiddie" coaster and people were saying that they were disappointed, etc. Today they should know they are part of a small minority.....7DMT is already a classic hit and it hasn't even opened yet.

The critics said it couldn't be done but Disney actually got over 50,000 people clamoring to book a reservation in advance for a little kiddie coaster in just 2 hours. I believe Disney is gloating right now. I hope not too long because more people are desperately waiting for this to be fixed.

Plus- the people who stalked this site all year finally got their free dining today!!!! These people don't even care about rides and FastPass+. They just want to go to Disney and eat for free. They know Disney offers a premium product at a premium (ridiculous) price and they just want the discounts!!!!

When the system crashes for other companies like Apple and every other company---- the consumer raises an eyebrow and wonders what they are missing out on. People are impressed by the huge amount of interest and response. The Disney brand is proving to be stronger than ever.

There are over 6 billion people in the world ... over 100 million visitors to WDW each year ... your attempt to argue that 50 000 fp bookings puts those disappointed in the minority is hilarious, mathematically speaking. Trollin on up.

Serious question - between this thread and the one about getting rid of the Snow White witch, are you just posting to get a reaction? Because that's kind of the definition of trolling and I don't think that's really welcome around here.

I love how being a "troll" on the Disney theme parks forum means you have to post positive things about Disney.

I think the person who brought out the troll word made it pretty clear why they were bringing that word out...and it had nothing to do with positive posting.

Eta: I am also remembering how last week someone was maybe a troll because they didn't come back in x amt of hours to satisfy some posters...troll seems to have varying definitions depending on the weekend here.

It should also be noted that the above poster who used the troll word asked what the op was doing, and said IF that's what they were doing, that's the definition of trolling. That's not any.different than saying someone *may* be a troll because they didn't respond in x amt of time.

You get that many hits the system goes down. We SAW it. People would see one thing on MDE, another on the App, and get other info when calling in. This is a direct result of their front-end web systems not being able to update and be updated from their databases, as well as their front-end app systems having trouble updating and being updated. All because of the excessive # of transactions.

Think about it... I'm just one person... and I've clicked easily 500 times over the last month checking FP's for SDMT. Multiply that by the ppl who have trips booked for the next 60 days... INSANE numbers of hits. Then the system crashes and the hits go UP not down cuz ppl stop getting their tasks completed, so they keep trying. Then the system became completely unuseable.

Buuut... you probly know better. Cool. Why not take what Disney PR said, that it was "the weather" that caused the outage. :)

I think SouthWest, United, British Airways, NYSE, NASDAQ, ETrade, AmEX, Marriott, VISA, etc., would get a little chuckle and a big yawn at the level of hits and transactions you feel are excessive. they handle that in a few hours or minutes every single day, with much more complicated data-sets and integrations.

I guess designing and building things to handle your absolute peak load plus 25% didn't fit in that budget.

And the weather caused it????. Wow.

I can't wait to see Jim Cantore and the Weather Channel van parked in front of an FP Kiosk the next time a nor'easter blows through:

"Al, the winds are up to 35 mph and I just saw a guest lose their FP's and Mickeys are starting to turn blue all over the Park.....!!" "That temporary blue tarp just blew off the data center again and IT CM's are running for shelter....." "Back to you, Al"

It always worked out before, just took getting to the park no later than 10:00a or so. Was doing that really all that hard?

Well it wasn't this easy that's for sure.

Sitting on 20 7DMT reservations for day 1 and day 3-keep trying. Heck even the 3 mountains would have been more than enough at day 25 IMO, especially a party of 10.

FP+ causing this ?? Doesn't anyone remember last year on Aug 1 when promotions were announced for the rest of the year? The entire phone and online systems were crippled! Wait times reported in multi hours ( and many of these reports from TA's) and multi error messages on the website. This is not some new thing caused by FP bookings. It has become a regular for fall promo announcements it seems. Hoped Disney would see it coming this time, but oh well...

It's not new...I don't think anyone is saying the phenomenon is new. Sadly Disney's websites have had this problem for quite some time. I think most are saying that yesterday's failure specifically was due to the combined onslaught of people calling for free dining and trying to book SDMT.

It's hardly the first time, it won't be the last...but the downside of having this new FP+ system being so heavily reliant on the IT infrastructure is that when the infrastructure fails, as it did yesterday, it affects people in the park now. Previously, the phones being tied up/website going down did not have to mean that people's in-park experience was affected negatively.

I think you misunderstand me. I don't know the OPs intentions. I only know that they started two somewhat controversial threads in a short amount of time. That certainly seems like trolling, but maybe I'm wrong and they're just serious about removing the witch and whatever this thing really is? Maybe? That's why I hedged what I said. I'm giving OP the benefit of the doubt. If it's not trolling then so be it, but it looks like a duck so I called it a duck. I'd be fine being wrong if that's the case.

Yep. And whether you love FP+ or hate it, I don't see why some people can't see that this is an issue that Disney needs address. It's certainly not anything for them to be proud of.

Manufacturing demand by artificially limiting supply (regardless of the means) CAN be effective, provided that you have an outlet in a reasonable amount of time. "Reasonable" is a pretty big variable in that equation. If you can't get the product to customers, you risk pushing them towards substitutes.* But the fact is, almost no companies try doing this because it's incredibly risky. I highly doubt Disney is intentionally trying to limit supply here (either FP or Elsa merch). I think it's far more likely that they were caught flat-footed in both cases. *Why yes, I am in marketing. ;)

Good post Rob!

Please don't get me wrong..I was trying to defend you :). I don't think there is anything wrong with what you said earlier!
