Lex Luthor (Bob Chapek) was wrong. The demand is not there. Its also not at regional parks either. A lot of parks across the US are going to be in some trouble by the end of this. Disney will be fine they will just cut a lot of attractions that were planned.

They said WDW was leaving money on the table staying closed

They said the economy would come roaring back if we just opened again.

Apparently most would rather go to beaches or national parks are they are either free or cheap.

I hope this means Disney will take more of a vested interest in getting locals to visit. They tried to alienate locals when they thought they had the upper hand, and now they are going to need them the most.

We haven't fully reopened everything in every state, so your comment is extremely premature.

Its not that extremely premature. So far most of the parks that have opened aren't seeing the attendance they had hoped for. It will probably be the same when the other states do open as well.

Interestingly Cedar point after less than 2 weeks has dropped the reservation requirement. Most the slots were taken opening weekend. I looked recently as I planned to go again and there was at least half availability this coming weekend. Half of what is estimated at 20-25% or normal capacity.

I think that is what Disney and every other amusement park is getting right now. Except Hollywood studios.

I don’t see why this is a bad thing. It’s not like 1 person showed up. Better to over plan for more people than under plan.

Not surprised based on how many die hard fans on here have postponed their trips, let alone the casual vacationer who probably doesn't want to take the risk. Just curious for the locals, what would/could Disney do to attract you to visit more often and spend more money there?

I agree with that completely. There's a reason the US tourism industry is pushing for a tax-deductible travel credit - the demand just isn't there for travel right now.

I will have to disagree with this to an extent. While I don't disagree that tourism is down a lot (that's an understatement), there are people traveling. I live in CT and our region's infection rates have plummeted drastically. We currently have over 30 states on our travel quarantine list, but none of the states within driving distance are on that list. Everyone I know, including my family, have diverted our travel dollars from travel destinations that require flying to places we can drive to - Vermont, Maine, NY, PA, NH - are going to be the beneficiaries of the diversion of these travel dollars. Specifically places in the mountains, near lakes, beaches, etc. Will it turn the tourism industry around? Not at all, but it may help tourism in our specific region and people here definitely want to travel. It was the benefit of spiking early and getting our infection rates down. Certainly doesn't help Disney at all, though.

Good room discounts are the -only- way we stay onsite as semi-locals. I stay onsite more the better the discounts are.

It is a bad thing. The limited capacity is most likely not just for safety but also the lowest they can operate financially.

the problem for disney is they took on a lot of debt when they bought fox also when disney relies on theme park and movies to make money which isnt good right now where as universal is in a better spot because comcast isnt just theme parks its televistion and internet

So to summarize the WDW portion:

WDW needed to open and not leave money on the table, and Bob thought more demand would be there, and all parks that opened obviously did as well.

Many parks will be in trouble, but not Disney.
