Hello,

I am writing this because since we have come back from our cruise many people have asked me how the cruise was -- and we absolutely loved it. We went me and my husband (in our 30's) and my mom (late 50s). This is not to say that a disney cruise is not excellent for families - I just wanted to write this to let others know that adults cruising without kids will have a great time. We are big Disney fans and cruise fans. Here are some things adults will love, and reasons why you will find (as we did) that Disney actually ends up being better than other lines for adults:

1. The adults only pool - read my prior post (excellent). The pool is comfortable with a great wading type area. The hot tubs are not crowded and the area is the best. For those who have been on other cruise lines, you will appreciate the peace and pleasant area.

2. Palos - on the 4 night cruise we did the brunch and the dinner. Both worth every last penny - and I would say the greatest bargain on the cruise.

3. Adult activities - the evening activities are great (70s and 80s night) plus the adult piano sing alongs. Not that crowded and top entertainment.

4. Spacious rooms. The split bath may have been designed for families but its great for couples, too.

5. The ESPN lounge had a free video game machine with "our games" - centipede, millipede - I forget what else but it was classic. We had a ball playing and getting on the high score list. Plus, again, we did not find it too crowded.

6. Great first run movies - we saw the Village this summer, which was just out. So while they have the fun disney family movies (which we like anyway), the adult movies are better and in a more comfortable theater than on other cruise ships.

7. the SPA - for about $15 or so you can spend a great hour lounging around in the fancy tiled steam room/sauna area. What a bargain. Try it the first day if you can because if you buy for more days it is a little less expensive.

8. The shopping - the stores were excellent with what I would call fair prices. In fact, I got some really cute items 50% off (great soft white cotton spa like slippers with the cruise line logo embroidered in a really cute tote was reduced to about $10 or so).

9. Yes there are huge lines for character pictures, but so what - we didn't wait on them!

10. Serenity Bay - this was so excellent I can't even describe it. We staked out an area with a hammock, lounges, and an umbrella near the bar. No kids are at the beach and it is tranquil and beautiful beyond all expectations. there is food right there so you can spend the whole day. I had beautiful fruit, ice-cream and a great sandwich. Also you can rent a pool mat right there. Everything is right there - and the tram will take you in maybe 5-10 minutes. Serenity Bay was really fabulous and the best port stop of any caribbean cruise I have been on.

11. You can bring drinks on the ship. Unlike other lines, they did not seem so desparate to get every last penny -- they let you bring on beverages! Plus they even give you a refrigerator in the room at no extra charge.

Anyway, I wanted to write this to give adults cruising without children confidence in their decision to give Disney a try!

:sunny: I could not agree more.. Our last cruise was June 2002 as a family of 4... the next one will be May 2005, the last 7 day cruise will by my DH & me...we're looking so forward it, as the last trip with two teenagers... had it's moments.

My wife and I have no kids and we enjoy the DCL so much we are going on our third one in December.

JJ

My first two DCL cruises were "kidless", the first one just DH and me, and on the second one we brought his Dad, who had always dreamed of a cruise but never really expected to have the opportunity. We loved both. Last December, we added "The Kids"--our son, his wife and our granddaughter, along with sister-in-law, her husband and their two kids. That was fun, too, but I think I had a better time "kidless", although sharing it with granddaughter was an awesome experience. At 3 1/2, she was able to soak in every bit of "Wonder" that the ship offered, and can't wait to cruise again!

Beth

Hi, Music777! We'll see you on board!

I am personally scared to sail DCL after we have kids! I have LOVED sailing kidless (but I have nothing to compare with, as we have no kids!), and it is nice to see others kids enjoy the characters and be so cute and funny! But it is nicer to walk into the quiet and serenity of Quiet Cove after have 8 kids run into me, spill soda and step on my toes on the walk there!

My coworkers and family, who don't understand our yearly trips to Disney World and seem to take joy in questioning THAT, certainly do not understand why my DH and I (both 43 years old/no kids) are getting ready to take our second Disney cruise.

I agree. DCL is GREAT for adults! Your explanation of "why" is very accurate.

Your report has just made this empty nester and her spouse look forward to our upcoming cruise even more, THANKS!

Bobbi:D

Thank you so much for your post! We -- just my husband and I -- fly out tomorrow night for our 10/16 Magic 7day .

No kids, but we always have a blast at WDW and I'm happy to see that DCL has a lot to offer us as well!

We are looking forward to our "childless" cruise a in just about 1 year from now. We and our dear friends are anxiously looking forward to it. All of our "kids" are grown. We traveled to WDW many times with the children and enjoyed it. We have also traveled to WDW childless and enjoyed it every bit as much - just from a different perspective. These boards have convinced me that this first ever cruise, and on the Wonder at that, will be a lot of fun without our own kids. I will enjoy watching the joy that everyone elses children are experiencing, but then I can go to an adult area and just be with adults. ::yes::
It should be the best of both worlds. Can't wait.:Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

My DW and I agree with how great the DCL is for adults w/o children. Our first was childless, but we are happy to have our first and will be taking her on her first Disney vacation for her first birthday in just a couple of weeks.

My co-workers don't understand the yearly Disney vacations either. My work sent me to Taiwan for a week in April and when they found out I was stopping in Tokyo on my return for a visit to Disney Tokyo and Disney Sea, they shook their heads. I am always looking for opportunities to fit one more Disney expedition in. Disney vacations are fun for all ages with or without kids! :cool1:

You gave a great description of Serenity Bay. Wish I was there now. We love it. We have cruised with Disney five times, no kids (they are adults).

I totally agree! My DH and I don't have kids so most people couldn't understand why we were doing a Disney cruise. We were so pleasantly surprised by the truly, adult-only pool area and Palo's and Serenity Bay. They do a wonderful job catering to adults as well as kids and families!

GREAT POST! I could have (and should have) written it myself!:teeth: We've had soooo many friends and family members question why we chose a Disney cruise when we traveled without the kids last month. I'll print this off and simply hand it out when we break the news that we've rebooked for next year!:earseek: Thanks!

Hubby and I (43/46), children all grown..love to cruise on disney, for all the points you mentioned.

Thanks for the post. DW and I are taking our first cruise next month and doing DCL for our anniversary. We both love Disney and are looking forward to the cruise. I was a little concerned about doing a "family" cruise with just two adults, but from all I have read in your post and others, it sounds like it will be a blast!

Thanks for starting this thread - hubby and I are taking our first disney cruise next week and we don't have kids but we love all things disney. I was a bit apprehensive but after reading everyone's opions and experiences I'm even more excited than I already was ( if that's even possible:bounce: ).

I agree with the OP. We are also kidless and were a little aprenhensive about the cruise. But DCL does and excellent job of separating kiddos and adults. It was much better than we thought it would be.

The only little tiny complaint I had concerning kids was at the theatre. But I will share our secret (just for us adults ;) ). There are folding chairs in the back of the theatre. We sat back there all by ourselves and did not have to deal with people getting up, walking in front of us, fussing............... But don't tell anyone else.

Would Also Have to Agree...

7 Cruises With No Kids We love it...

Cant Wait for Our 14 day Cruise in May...

And getting To Meet so Many Disers Is Great Fun...
