I need some help. We aren't supposed to be checking out until Friday, but my 14 month old just woke up vomiting. I'm so upset obviously. Sick kids are hard/sad enough as it is, but on vacation?!?! I tried to call the number for insurance info to see what I need to do to get refunded since we are wanting to just go home tomorrow, but the office is closed. As much as it would be easier to just wait it out here rather than driving tomorrow, it's also risky because I'm worried that the rest of us will come down with it. My husband and I both have been sharing all of our meals with her and holding and cuddling her nonstop. Stomach bugs have been known to take 2 weeks to finally pass through our whole family (6 of us in all), and we can't stay here forever so we figured it's safer now then later. I've never had to actually file a claim wih travel insurance before so I'm wondering how this works since I can't get in touch with them. What can I expect from disney's insurance? Is it going to be difficult to get a refund for unused park tickets, hotel night, and dining credits?

First, talk to the resort. Are you onsite? Go to the front desk (do NOT call) and talk to them. See what they say.

I actually did do that, and they referred me to the disney number I called for insurance info.

I don't think you can cancel during a trip unless it's something major. I mean so many people get sick while traveling by drinking water they aren't used to or eating food they are not used to. I don't see insurance covering it, but then again I don't know.
I also have a family of six. When we went to Disney me and my DS(2 at the time) also shared meals and ended up vomiting for a whole night and day. We stayed in the room for the day while my DH took the rest of the kids to the park. The next day we were completely fine. I think it was the water we drank.
Anyways I will be surprised if it's covered but hope it is if it really turns out to be the flu running through your family.

Ugh.

Guess when others are pixie dusted it's hard when others just get the normal info. Though it's also possible it's because you got the insurance (which, of course, is maddening if you purchased the insurance).

Since the company isn't open, I hope you can sleep.

Is, by chance, the baby teething? My son really ran the gamut of "is he sick?" symptoms when teething. And at 10 he still does, with his adult teeth coming in. Still the same stuff, with belly upsets and bright pink cheeks and fevers...all the same as he always was when teeth were involved.

Definitely not teeth. She's never had a problem with her teeth coming in. She hasn't thrown up since the first two times, but now has a cough and a horribly stuffy nose and fever. I'm thinking flu maybe.

The policies we've had in the past have clauses that identify covered reasons such as Physician providing written information documenting the injury or illness is so "disabling as to prevent you from taking or continuing your Covered Trip."

While dealing with a cold/ flu on holiday isn't fun, you would need a (treating) physicians letter pretty much saying you have to go home NOW.

I think the best thing for you to do is to wait until the insurance company is open and you can talk to an agent before you make any final decisions. All other advice is likely based upon other people's assumptions, and is likely not applicable to your particular case.

In the meantime, I'd wander down to the concierge desk and see if they can tell you where the nearest urgent care center is. Assuming you have a car, you'll have a game plan once you get on the phone with the insurance company if they need documentation of the severity of your daughter's illness from a doctor.

I got sick during the middle of one of my trips; I knew it was going to turn into bronchitis if not treated quickly and I was due to fly home in four days. I knew if I didn't treat it, I would be renting a car and driving back to DE by myself and expected it would take at least two days. If I could get a jump on it, I was better off.

I called the "front desk" (The CCC) and explained what was going on and they transferred me to the front desk at POR. They swung into action. They picked me up in a DVC van and took me to Central Care Center and gave me a number to call when I was ready to be picked up. It was like a small hospital emergency room set-up and I think I was there no longer than an hour. I explained to the doctor what I was getting and what my home doctor gave me for antibiotics, inhaler, etc.

They wrote me a prescription, sent me next door to the pharmacy and it was filled immediately. I called the resort and in a matter of minutes, there they were shuttling me back to the resort. In about two days, I was starting to feel better, was actually able to salvage the rest of my trip and fly home without incident.

I believe the insurance covers more catastrophic illness or injury - everybody gets sick, especially in a place as crowded as Disney, it is not hard to be exposed to something.

How miserable for you all. I hope things work out for you and your little one feels better soon!

If you feel that your child is sick enough to leave early, then I wouldn't be worried about what your insurance covers and check out today. I really don't think that you are covered for the type of sickness that your daughter apparently has. Grab some food to go, use up your snack credits and worry about the insurance later. Good luck and hope your daughter feels better.

I'm not sure if your travel insurance would cover the flu or whatnot, but if your daughter is sick enough that you feel like your family needs to go home, I'd go ahead and checkout early and explain what happened and then just eat the cost if the insurance doesn't cover it. You can always figure that out later once your home and your daughter is better, then make calls and see if there was anything the insurance could help with. I'm not sure if it will cover anything for you or not, sorry. I hope your daughter feels better soon, it sucks to be sick no matter where you are.
