Has anyone else heard that Disney will be opening a new theme park in India? Any info. would be greatly appreciated. I heard something about near Delhi and ready in about 5 years?
Thanks.

I'm going to move this over to Rumors and News Board here at the DIS.Maybe someone over there will know tht answer to this.Sounds unlikely, but hey ya never know! :confused3

Eisner and Iger recently took a business trip to India; the reason is top secret, but the rumor is that they are negotiating to build a new theme park there.

There is another rumor going that they are actually in negotiations to offshore Disney animation to India, but that is a less likely rumor.

I would love for that to happen.. I find a lot of things about India absolutly beautiful, but I don't know how responsive the country would be to having a DW...?

I think it most likely that they were looking for interest in a new country pavillion in Epcot.

I honestly doubt that India could support a Disney park. I've been with my grandmother to India once, and while it was very beautiful we couldn't bring outselves to go again it was just so depressing in a way. I would love to see a Epcot pavilion about India though. :goodvibes

I have several co-workers from India. I heard the rumor and go talking with them about it.

They felt that there are a couple of large cities, that have growing economies (The silicon valleys of India) and have a large and growing middle class. They felt that there were areas in India that could support it, as well as areas in India where it would be a disaster.

I heard somewhere that they were thinking of opening a new Disneyland in South Korea. Asia has too many, they should expand somewhere else, like Australia.

India is a rising star; maybe they're looking at it as a source of labour?

Didn't they just open or announce a Disney Animation Studio opening
over there? I remember seeing on the news or something ( I remember seeing it live, so I didn't read about it). I remember being pretty unhappy to hear the news since they have practically shut down the original one over here in Anaheim.

I read in yahoo India news that they are negotiating on the Very Large land right outside of Delhi for the theme park and are negotiating with the PM of India on this particular land by getting the necessary information to get things rolling.

So looks like that if they are going to build, it will be on the outskirts of Delhi.

I am guessing that they will open an imagineering center there because who better to imagine the Indian concept of the park than local imagineers.

I do not think that the ceo's would go to India just so they can get an Indian pavilion at Epcot and by the looks of it, we just may see Disney park in India.

I heard they were buying land in India on the radio this morning...

It's also possible that they plan to offshore some of their tech (website development, game development) and customer service to India as so many other companies have. In that case, they'd need to build training facilities, tech facilities, and a large call center. These are big investments, but they don't necessarily lead to parks and rides.

I spoke with this to a co-worker who is from India. He is all for it! He just wonders about the authenticity, as in will there be wild monkeys who swoop in and steal food from your table.

If they went to India because they were planning to include that country in an Epcot showcase, I'd say great. I think it would be a wonderful addition. However, if they're planning to outsource the jobs of our animators or build another park, I say absolutely not!!

The Disney Co. just laid off 300 people from the traditional animation dept., and 100 IT people as well (not to mention the park CM's that lost their jobs prior to this). I don't intend to start a debate here; but IMHO, Disney should be using their money to hire back the people who were laid off over here, and to do whatever rehabs need done in the current parks. "Disney India", or whatever they're planning to do over there, can wait.
