The rumors abound for these sorts of purchases. Missouri, Tennessee, you name it- there is a rumor mill for the Midwest. Truth is, the Disney Company has expressed no interest in expanding in the US. They are still focused for now in the overseas market, especially since DLRP is not faring well for the 5th year in a row. I wish it were true!
Even if the Disney Co. had purchased several thousand acres there, it doesn't mean there is a theme park in the works. Maybe its just a new headquarters for ESPN or ABC.
Oh yes, and a similar persistent rumor about Disney building in Texas was recently revealed to be nothing more than somebody who had done some design work for Disney deciding to open their own park near Fort Worth.
Being a Tn girl I haven't heard any of this. I think it would be a long shot. But who knows what Disney will do. I just don't think Dolly is sweating it yet.
I am sure there is nothing to this rumor but as a born and raised Tennessee boy I can always dream... because every one knows that dreams come true... right?
It was probably just a rumor. About 5 -6 years ago, it was reported that a "major amusement/entertainment company" had bought many acres to build a theme park on outside of Tunica (by where all the casinos are). Of course everybody in Memphis got excited b/c we all hoped it would be Disney. Years later, land is still being farmed on.
