Hey there! New to the boards and excitedly looking at celebrating my 30th birthday at Disneyworld this year!

We are looking at September - free dining plan and low prices, but concerned about the weather. Has anyone been in September? Being hurricane season, has anyone experienced rain/storms? Recommendations on dealing with the heat? Fortunately, just me and my hubby - no kids to worry about, so any traveling tips for this time of year would b e welcome!

Thank you!!

Sept is very very hot and very very humid. It is also the peak of the Atlantic Hurricaine season. Last year around the time of my trip, there were several storms brewing in the Atlantic, but nothing except a few showers ever made it to disney.

I've gone in September previously, and am going back this September.

Yes, it's hurricane season, but Disney is so far inland that even if one did hit, by the time it makes it that far in, it's not the same as being on the coast. Plus, Disney has amazing plans in place should a hurricane hit.

That being said, I've never had even so much as a close call when I've gone in September. Yes, you likely will get rained on every day in the afternoon, but it doesn't usually last more than half an hour or so. Take a rain poncho with you, you'll be fine.

It's hot and humid, but nothing unbearable (Trust me, I'm a Canadian here, and I do NOT get along well with heat and humidity!). It's still warm enough to go swimming.

We went sept 07 & 08. The weather was beautiful. We didnt even need sunscreen. I wore capris the whole trip. I would love to go again in Sept, but school has become an issue for my children. We are going last week of August. You will have a great time. The crowds were never that bad during september. The only issue we had was the love bugs in 07.

we went labor day of last year....in between two hurricanes...i sat at my computer every day just watching it fade then become huge then change tracks...once i got to florida i could have cared less if i got stuck there..disney is a very safe place should a hurricane hit...but on to the weather you definately have to deal with..heat--yeh its hot...not unbearable though. i had on shorts and a tank top all the time...my hair was always up ( even at night itried to make it look pretty but it ended up in a ponytail) it rained one day for most of the day...downpour rain..but the other 6 days it was fine not even a sun shower....(unless we were on ellens universe of energy and missed ithahaha)

i did it last year and im planning my honeymoon around the low crowds, warm weather, and hopefully free dining next year lol

pack light clothing...be prepared to take it light, if you get bothered by the heat-sit down in a quick service restaurant and grab a drink and talk about what you have seen so far or would like to do, or go back to the resort for a swim, or grab an indoor ride/show.

pack a rain poncho/umbrella in case it does rain and take advantage of everyone fleeing the park when it rains!

I am going Sept 10-14 to celebrate my 30th birthday also. Hope you have a great birthday. I'm sure the weather will be fantastic.

I will be there in September for my birthday too. And my brothers birthday is the day before mine, so we will be celebrating both days.
I was at CS during Hurricane Jean. They had Red Cross workers and electricians from other states staying there. It was the safest place.
They did close the parks early and we had to stay over an extra night and we were 'locked in' our rooms. They put tape over the key card slot and said if we left and couldn't get back in, they would not come help us!!! They had extra movie channels on the tv and they updated us by phone often. The weather channel had Mickey shaped clouds which I haven't seen since. When it was safe to go out, they had a couple of extra places to get food including a nice buffet and characters were there.
So even though there was a hurricane we still had a good time.

We went the last week of Sept. 07. It was very hot & humid but the crowds are very low so I would do it again! We only had 2 afternoon rainshowers the week we were there...not too bad.
We are hoping to go again this year same week for free dining!:thumbsup2

We just booked for the end of Sept. 24th-29th. Free dining saved us $910!!! I am a little concerned about the weather, I did get the insurance though. We went last year during the third week of Oct and the weather was great-not a drop of rain. But Free dining sucked us in for this year as we weren't really planning a trip. I will be interested to see what other diser's have to say about Sept. weather. I don't really care as I wil be in my happy place!!!

Hurricane Jeanne was in 2004. They had a lot that year. That is why the Red Cross workers and the electricians were staying there.

We went Sept. 2008 and had a blast! There was a hurricane that ended up going in a different direction so we only had rain one afternoon and one evening. With the ponchos we were fine and happy! (It's Disney it takes more than rain to put a damper on that!)

We did end up flying out a day later than planned (had insurance and the airline took care of it) because of where we live on the east coast and another hurricane causing some weather issues with high winds and rain. The flight didn't actually get canceled, but I hate flying anyway so scaredy cat me opted to wait and fly out in the beautiful sunny 70 degree weather the next day.

The heat in Disney was not as bad as mid summer. It was quite warm on some days, but was bearable and the evenings and mornings were great!

Don't fret and have a great birthday! We also went for free dining last year and got so spoiled!

We have been twice in September...2003 and 2008. Both were the week of September 20-27. The weather each time was hot and very very humid. This last visit we had rain on our arrival day for a short time for about 1.5 hours when we were going to our hotel room. The 2nd time it rained for about that same amount of time...it actually poured and we were at Epcot...just put on the ponchos and went.

Would I plan again to go in September. YES YES YES.
I took my boys out of school both visits...first time they were in first and third grades. This time sixth and eighth. If I am paying $$$$ for a visit to Disney I plan on going when the crowds are low low low. We never waited more than 10 minutes for rides. Yes, we did use fastpasses for Toy Story Mania and got them for other rides but most had little wait. Think the longest line we ever waited in was for Peter Pan...only because I wanted to go on it.

Some say free dining causes packed restuarants. We didn't do free dining had a PIN code and stayed at the Poly. We had ADR's and had no issues even at counter service restuarants. Just plan ahead...make ADR's, pack a ponch and enjoy. I think we were just behind the Labor day crowds and just ahead of fall break crowds. Even on Saturday we didn't have to wait in lines...our final day was a Saturday..went over to MK before our late afternoon flight. Went on all major rides in under hour and a half (Space Mountain, Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain, Pirates, Haunted Mansion) sat on Main Street and had ice cream and were ready to go.

Go and have fun!!!! Yes, I did constantly check about hurricanes. I did buy travel insurance so we were covered. Just really check and compare insurance.

.

Which ponchos are best for humid weather? I usually take the cheapo Walgreen types..but wonder if there's anything light weight but less sticky?

We did the first week of September last year and loved it. Yes it was hot, but it's Florida so I guess I just figure it's part of the deal! It was never unbearable and only our first day, because of a nearby hurricane, we got a few bouts of rain and a nice breeze :) The rest of the week we didn't get a drop of rain (or a breeze for that matter!). We are going to be there again this September for our honeymoon, we specifically chose September because we knew we were doing Disney and loved the low crowds. Totally worth it!

My husband and I went the first week of sept/last week of august and it rained a tiny bit once and that was it. it was very nice - not too hot, and it wasn't very crowded which was cool. I think (but could be wrong) orlando is too far inland to get more then rain for a hurricane :confused3
