Disney in September - no Dining Plan

My family and I are visiting in September and are not doing the Dining Plan. Does anyone have recommendations for good table service restaurants (i.e., good food without going broke)? We are only planning to do Hollywood Studios & Magic Kingdom then a couple other days by pool, relaxing, etc... Oh, we have 2 children - 7 & 9.

We've done the character breakfast before, so it is not a "must do".

I've been plenty of times without the dining plan and have been able to eat cheaply.

Lunches are cheaper than dinners in most TS restaurants, so I'd go with that. The Plaza, though I've never been, is a pretty cheap table service restaurant in MK and gets good reviews. Liberty Tree lunch also comes highly recommend. In DHS, 50's prime time and Sci Fi dine in seem to be the most conservatively priced. I'd check out the menus for each of those and see if it fits the bill for your family.

When paying OOP, mostly lunches will be your friends...

The Plaza (L/D) and Liberty Tree Tavern (L) are good, and (relatively) inexpensive places to dine. Over at DHS, Sci-Fi Dine In and '50s Prime Time (L) you can also get away a bit more cheaply. Epcot, AK, DtD, and the Resorts, I don't know really (though Grand Floridian Cafe isn't too pricy and I hear it's very good).

For character meal, Tusker House breakfast at AK is pretty much the cheapest you're going to get, followed maybe by Cape May over at Beach Club. Not sure on the other prices, but I know that Chef Mickey's and Akershus are the most expensive. (I know you weren't concerned about character meals... but had to add them just the same). I think 1900 PF wasn't too bad for breakfast either.

For MK I'd definitely recommend Liberty Tree Tavern for lunch. We ate there for the first time in March and LOVED it!! Nothing fancy, just good "homestyle" food and the desserts are great too.

I can't comment on Hollywood Studios as I've not been there our last few trips, there are lots of good choices on the Boardwalk nearby though.

If you don't have ADR's by now, you may have to settle for what is still available. Check the Disney site.
We love the 50's Prime Time Cafe at the Hollywood Studios. Good food and great fun. We don't usually eat TS in the MK, but like Kona Cafe and 'OHana at the Poly
