Disney in January

Planning a trip for long weekend in January how are crowds and weather

Me too. We will be there for 5 days in late January. I have been wondering the same and looking at crowd reports on other websites. Hope its moderate at worst and low crowds most days.

It depends. There are some busy weekends such as the marathon weekend and MLK weekend, but otherwise it's pretty low crowds.

Weather, chilly in the morning and during the evenings (we wear sweat shirts and pants) and then pleasant during the day (70s).

Might depend a little on where you are coming from... we come from the frozen tundra, so it's usually shorts and t-shirts for us. But, we always pack fleece jackets, jeans and rain slickers because we've encountered every type of weather. Our first visit they had record breaking lows and had to wrap many of the plants in blankets to protect from frost overnight. Almost felt like home.

Crowd wise it's low season... but, the locals show up on the weekends making them busier. Still 3 or 4 on the crowd predictors, though.

A few years ago we went the week of New Years....don't recommend it. Super crowded and it gets fairly chilly at night. So if you plan on enjoying the pools in the evening after a day at the parks....might not be so enjoyable. I hear later in January is better as far as crowds go. Good luck!

We went this year during the last week of January. It was fabulous! The weather was gorgeous! Mostly 80s during the day. The crowds were slim and we had great interactions with all characters! Would definitely recommend it!

Identical timing for us this January as well, and identical report! When I researched for that trip I read that weatherwise it was really a mixed bag, great and horrible. We packed for everything, and the only night it rained was the night we went to MVMCP and it was horribly wonderful. The skies opened up as the parade started so everyone was soaked. Santa even had an umbrella on the float, and the CM were smiling while standing in 4 inches of water. It ended up just misting, and DS7 and I rode Astro Orbiter 12 times in a row without getting off...including during fireworks! Somehow I didn't lose my free cookies ; )

Oh...and if you have school age kids, you might line up with Homeschool Day (Jan 25 last year). Seriously deep ticket discounts, and you don't need to be a homeschooler (open to all children). We did the YES program and had a great time!

It so depends. We have been almost every week in January. First week in January was CRAZY busy for us. We will not go that week again. All other weeks have had wonderfully low crowds. It has varied with not only the week, but also the year. We were there MLK week one year when there was a big snow storm up north and no one could fly out......no lines what so ever!!

Temps have varied from lows in the 20's and highs in the 50's to all week or 80's!

We do love January and except for NY week, it is a great time to go.

woo that's a very nice and amazing thread and have a lot of fun i also want to visit here

Last two times we went was in January. First year cool at night swam during the day. Last time very cold wore heavy winter coats most days. Crowds fabulous. Would love to go in January next year but how my husband takes vacation has changed. We have to go in June. We have been going after MKL because we are usually off from school 2 or 3 days that week.

We went MLK week last year and are going again this year. Hardly any crowds and the weather was great. We are from the NE so we started out with shorts and jackets, took the jackets off for the afternoon and back on at night. We we able to walk into most restaurants with the exception of O'hanas. We went to Animal Kingdom for the holiday which is usually the least crowded. The parks do close earlier and not as many parades so be sure to look up the calendar.

For the first several years we owned DVC we would arrive anywhere from NYD to the 3rd of January.....and depart anywhere from Jan 8th to the 12th....depending when college spring semester was beginning that year. Some years weather was great....and some....not so.....the last time we were there in January with the whole family (2009 I think) ....we had night time temps in the mid 20's.....record cold....all resort pools had signs...no lifeguards on duty (even during the day....temps were in the high 40's). All the plants were killed by frost....signs pertaining to Jack Frost paying a visit were everywhere on property and all planting beds were bare. DH and I have been there once since during January and weather was very nice....cool at night, but, daytime temps in the 70's. I've been tracking January weather for the past few years and it seems the better weather is usually later in the month....so we are trying it this coming January from 21st thru 25th

Planning a trip for long weekend in January how are crowds and weather

If you avoid MLK weekend and the marathon, crowds are very low. Obviously NYE the crowds are ridiculous.

As far as weather, it is cool to cold at night and early morning. During the day should be high 60's to 70's normally. Just always remember that it is unpredictable and can be on the cooler side all day if a cold front is going through. Bring sweatshirts/sweaters and some pants and you should be fine.

It is possible that with FD being offered, it may be a little busier and there has been a lot of threads related to increased crowds and no off season any more. January however is one of the slowest times though.

We went last year at the very end of January (so most of our ten days were actually in February), this year we're going mid/late January. The mornings were chilly. So even though we left -40 C temps, we still wanted bunny hugs in the AM. By lunch time though, we were happy to have our tank tops and shorts under those sweaters. LOL Came back to the Great White North with tan lines! ;)

I went marathon weekend 2013. It wasn't that bad, especially if I go early while the runners are still running. It was warm - 80s.
