Hi everyone,
I am beginning to plan a trip for Jan or Feb 2009. I'm having lots of difficulty even checking for room availability! Can anyone help me out and tell me when discounts/bookings/ event information will be coming out for next year?!
Thank you in advance, this will be my boys first time there. They are 7,9,11.!
Thanks!

Hi:
Welcome to the DIS !

You cannot book online right now for 2009. You can however call your TA or Disney direct and hold a room for 2009 (as long as it's within 500 days from today's date - which you are) by putting a depost on your resort room equal to one night's rate (which they base on what the peak rate is this year).
Then when the package rates are released this summer; you can call back Disney or your TA and switch over to a package deal.

January is a wonderful time to visit "The World". Have an absolute BLAST!:thumbsup2

Hi GBK,

My son, DIL, GD went to WDW in early Jan and had a great time. Half of their trip still had the holiday decorations up, but then disappeared overnight. They said the weather was great and no (or almost no) wait times for rides/dining. I've seen their pictures and watched their videos and it looks like Jan is a very good time for a WDW visit...

Booking packages will begin around late august.

Discounts should show up around NOV/DEC for January travel dates.

Event Information usually hits 3 months in advance on disney's website, but closures and rehabs can be announced at any time.

Hi and Welcome!!
We are booked...package and all for January 2009. We were wanting to arrive on the 1st but didn't know how the flights would work out. So when I called DW, I booked December 31, 2008 to January 5, 2009. Since we technically booked for "2008", we got to book the entire package :thumbsup2 ...Also, don't know if this is true, the CM we booked with said our prices would NOT change, since our package was/is booked (and it was booked for 2008), but that might change when I change our dates to not include the 31st:confused3. Everyone has said it's a great time to go...we went this past Thanksgiving, it was a little crowded, but we still had fun.

There are a couple of things to be aware of when going in January. There will most likely be HUGE groups of touring Brazilian kids. We were there in Jan of 07 and while it was not crowded, there were many many groups that were sometimes a little obnoxious. Also, the weather can be really unpredictable that time of year. One day we were wearing coats and the next day we were wearing shorts! Other than that, it was a wonderful time to be there!

I know this just reiterates what others have said, but I got this from Disney this week:

Thank you for contacting the Walt Disney World Resort.

Each year, our Product Development Department reviews all components offered under each package name. This determines the packages and components included for the following year. At this time, packages and room rates beyond 2008 have not been announced.
It is possible to book a 'room only' reservation up to 499 days in advance by calling the Disney Reservation Center at 407-W-DISNEY (407-934-7639); however, please understand that all rates for any Walt Disney World Resort are only guaranteed through December 31, 2008. A reservation of this type will require a deposit at the current 2008 nightly room rate, including tax; and will be adjusted to the 2009 rate at a later date.

A package may be added when details have been announced, however, it will be necessary for you to check when the packages become available.
Your room reservation will not automatically convert to a package.
Advance reservations do not guarantee the availability of discounts and special programs.

If you know what kind of room you want, call Disney now (or use a TA) and book a room-only reservation. You'll pay first night's deposit, which will likely be higher than the price you'll actually pay per night if you go in January, as the deposit will be based on peak period pricing and January traditionally is value season. Pricing seasons change in February, I think, so double check before you choose your dates. One of the best "discounts" available, to my way of thinking anyhow, is booking in value season. It's a rare discount in any other season that gets you much lower than the value season price.

In August, they'll likely release the 2009 rates. You can call back, adjust the pricing on your room (from 2008 peak price to 2009 value for instance), and either turn your room reservation into a package reservation if that's your plan or apply a AAA discount to the room-only reservation if you have AAA. (If you want AAA discounts on a package, you have to reserve with a AAA TA directly.) Later in the fall, any discounts for passholders or other groups will be released. If you qualify for one of those, you can call and have that applied to your reservation at that time. Basically, you don't have to wait for rates and discounts to make reservations like the pp's mentioned. I'm only repeating all that to clarify that you don't lock in a price or preclude yourself from getting any available discount by acting now. Probably not a good idea to wait, as things book up.

And, as a note to the poster who mentioned checking in on NYE, I'd consider that very carefully. It sounds like they're willing to give you a set package price based on 2008 pricing since you arrive in 2008, but you might check how the pricing works out if you arrive on Jan. 1. When we arrived last year, Jan. 1 was the first day of value season. Given the standard annual increase in resort prices (a few percent per night), the price for staying one night in holiday season (several hundred dollars more at WL than it would cost for the same room the next day) was still a lot more than we paid for the annual resort price increase for the rest of the week combined. That might be lessened in a package somehow, but, in my experience, paying for a night at "holiday season" rates and locking in 2008 prices for the rest of the week is more expensive than paying for value rates the whole week, even with the annual increase factored in. I hope that makes sense ... considering Disney pricing is like going in circles.

I'm not sure of your exact dates you are considering, but one thing I would check on is to see if you could go at some point between MLK and President's weekend, and also try to find out when Mardi Gras is to avoid that weekend. We were able to time it perfectly this past January, and while there were still crowds, we were able to minimize their effect with the help of TGM (Tour Guide Mike).

The weather can be unpredictable, but little rain, just a little cold and windy at times, but I would much rather be able to put on a jacket than be miserable in the heat and humidity. You do miss the holiday decorations, which would be great, but then again, you also miss the holiday pricing!!

I don't know if this is every year, but we were able to take advantage of the free upgrade to Park Hopper and also the Water parks and more. I know that we wouldn't have paid for either (since we weren't planning to go to a water park) but did love having the Park Hopper for FREE! Also, it was value season, and I think we even got a small discount on our rooms, about $25 per night, so that was also great. It made the decision to stay "moderate" a no brainer.

We really loved POR. MY MIL was traveling with us, so we were in the mansions (Oak Manor) with connecting rooms. Our DD slept in MIL's room, but the rest of the time all 5 of us (me, DH, DS8, DS5, and DD3) were in our room, with all of our "stuff" and did not feel crowded at all. The bathroom area is very large.
