Disney in August- HOT ??

I won't set foot in the state of Florida in August. Not a chance.

Not in June, or July,
I will not drive, I will not fly.

Going to Florida, I will not.
I will not go when its hot.

Seeing the mouse will not be
Neither will I see Hook or Smee :)

September again was too hot
Go again, I will not.

That leaves Winter time I know
I guess I'll see pixie dust instead of snow.

I won't set foot in the state of Florida in August. Not a chance.
I will go in January, with pixie dust, and I will dance.

I'm not much of a poet, but your post reminded me of Dr. Seuss.

I've always loved Dr. Seuss! :yay: But I"m still never going to Florida in August. Or June or July, either.

Go in May you say
I will not go in May
not for the month not for a day

Going to Florida, I will not
I will not go when its hot

I'm having fun with this! :cool2:
Please feel free to join in.
I'd love for it to end so that we love going when its hot.

Early May was actually cool when I went.

OK.... I just cancelled my aug. trip. After hearing all the confirmation about the heatwave, i can honestly say, i wussed out. Im afraid my 2 year old my not be able to handle it. Gonna change it to December and i guess i will take the inlaws to niagara falls or something.
Thanks for all your input.

I would have sent the inlaws on to WDW without 'US'. You are too kind!

July 4th was no picnic either, Hot, Humid and deer flies at night.

I wish I could continue the poetry.....untalented here:headache:

OP....if your plans are to hang in your beautiful villa.....plan only a few hrs in the park, hang in the pool midday only to go to dinner at night....maybe some fireworks....you'll have a great time.

If you want to spend a lot of time in the parks.....I think you'll be unhappy.
BTW....you'll love the afternoon thunderstorms....they cool the pool off:goodvibes

That's what i don't want... don't want to spend the whole vacation at disney by staying in the room or hang out by the pool. Love it when I went back in december- beautiful.

Our next trip is planned for Aug '09. I am so worried about the heat- I have only done summer at wdw once- it was mid-June. The crowds were large and the heat - well- it was VERY intense. The crowds + the heat brought out the worst in some of the guests. I swore I would never go in the summer again. Never say never- right. When my kids were young, my opinion was that I would take them out of school 1 week- every other year for Disney. Well- here is reality- now that we have hit middle school- it is just too hard for my kids.

Now I am planning a nice long 10-12 night trip at the end of next Aug. We are definately doing morining and evenings in the parks- but no afternoons. We are going to take it slow and hope for the best. Any other tips on dealing with summer at WDW greatly appreciaited.

We were in WDW in August '07 and went to Universal/Sea World in August '06. These trips were both late August. The crowds were not bad at all because Florida students are back in school by the 2nd week in August (someone told me?). We are also planning a trip in August 2009 (8 or 9 nights) because our oldest will be starting middle school and, as you've said, it'll be hard to pull him out.

We did exactly what you mentioned on our previous trips.....get out early for the park openings, stay a few hours, head back for lunch, hang by the pool or just relax in the villa. Down time each afternoon is a must in August. Then we'd head back out after supper to spend a few more hours in the parks. Last year we did a water park one day which was great.

You will get tons of people telling you it's too hot but until you try it for yourself you're never going to know if it's worth it for your family. We would not hesitate to go in August again and again (and my DH will vouch for me, I'm not particularly fond of heat - he, on the other hand, loves it). To be honest, I've been at various times (May, November) when Orlando's been in a "heatwave" with temps in the upper 90's.....it's Florida.....it's hot.

yes it is hot and humid- you will sweat and be sticky the second you go out of the room!

We went last august-to labor day- free dining was the bonus

due to kids sports and school-it was the only time we could go

you will learn the nice ac places, take advantage of the table service to regroup

we were gome from 9- 1am every day! never went to a water park or pool

we wandered the shops and inside stuff more this trip- did the outside stuff at night or eary am--took lots of water and a spraybottle

plan! you'll have a great time

Im sure you will have fun and figure it out but I dont think they make a word for how hot it is. Myself personally imho i will never go back during this time but some people make it work.

I was going in August every year for a week with DD before school started. Just can't do it anymore. We were there the first week of August 2007, and it was bad. Not as bad as the second week though, when some friends of ours went for their honeymoon. They were having "real feel" days approaching 120 degrees.

Just came back from six days, and it was getting hotter every day, so I guess early May is out too. DD will be a senior next year, I hope when she is in college there will be time in early January to go!

I went with some family (cousin is teacher) in August when my oldest was 8 months. We stayed at the concrete jungle that is the Contemporary. I felt like we were literally cooking some days.

Now, I like hot. But even at 7AM the humidity just overwhelms you...You can't take a breath. It was rough. My mom was miserable because of it. I just kept time outside limited with the baby.

My Aunt and cousins go every year at that time because of the school thing...I say if you can go at another time you should. I've been every other month of the year...even compared to July..I think August was worse because of the humidity.
