OK....I was waiting for this to happen! My DS7 has been coughing and been congested for over a week. I just let it go, then he comes home after school yesterday and says he just doesn't feel good. Take his temperature and it is 101!!!! So, I go to the store and buy all kinds of medicine to try to help him out. He gets up this AM and still has the fever of 101, plus coughing up all this gross yellow stuff!! Took him to the doctor today and he gave us an antibiotic since he said it really sounded like a sinus infection. Hopefully my DS will be better before we leave!:wizard: The worst part about today...my DS10 had an all day field trip(8:45 - 5:15pm) and I was suppose to be a chaperone! I was so sad I couldn't go!:sad2: But...I look at it this way, at least my DS7 is sick now and not next week. At least we were still at home when it happened. Now we have to pray that the rest of us don't get it!:wizard: My doctor did give me a generic prescription for Zithromax to take with us on the trip just in case! Let's hope for the best!!!:wizard: :wizard:

Here is some extra special germ fighting (pixie dust) :pixiedust: to keep the rest of you from getting (sick).

It was nice of your Dr. to get you some meds just in case.

Well truthfully sounds exactly like what is going around at WDW right now anyway. Its exactly what we came home with in fact. So at least he is getting it over with. Good idea to have the antibiotics with though. Hope your son feels better soon and you all have a great time!

Before your trip be sure to check with your doctor about any precautions you need to take if you are flying. Your son may be feeling better, but the flight (altitude, etc.) may bring back some sinus problems so your doc should be able to provide some guidance on that for you.....I;d hate for your son to be sick during the trip :-(

Good luck!! Both DS 3 & DD7 got sick when we went down there...DS had a little bit of a runny nose on the plane & 2 days later had to leave AK early only did a few things because BOTH had fevers & sore throat...Ped didn't call in a script...so I had to rent a car & go to a Publix to a clinic. So make sure that your doc gives you one for EVERYONE (just in case) don't forget the motrin!! But DH & I took Airbourne all most every 6 hrs!! But here is some EXTRA good luck for you :wizard:

Like you said, better to be sick now than while you're there! BTW, did everyone see in the paper today: it seems that the big drug companies are taking all their over-the-counter kid's cough and cold meds off the market. Pretty amazing to read that they aren't even sure if they are effective in children, and pretty scary when I think of how we've used several of them on our own kids.

Anyway, Harvest02, here's hoping that your family (and everyone else) is feeling fine in time for the big trip!

We have the same thing here. I've been taking Zicam and I really think it helps. It works best if you start using at the very first sign of illness, maybe too late for your son but if you take some along it could help if someone else comes down with it?

What we have must be highly contagious. I NEVER get sick and I caught whatever DD has within 48 hours. We are potty training here too and handwash at least once an hour, singing the full alphapet song each time. Didn't help!

Well, round 2!!! :sad2: My DS10 came home from his field trip yesterday and was complaining of a sore throat. I took his temperature and it was normal. He woke up at 2:30 am with an upset stomach, but didn't get sick. Took is temperature and it was 102.3!!! Says it hurts to swallow. Sounds like strep throat to me!!! So, we will be off to another doctor's appt. today to check him out! I am very grateful that they are both sick right now, and not 10 days from now!!! At least it sounds like they are going to get it overwith before we leave. Now we will just hope that my DH and I don't catch anything. I will be sure I don't miss ANY days with my vitamins(or Airborne). Also, checked my DS7 just now and he is fever free!!! Antibiotic must have kicked in! So glad! :goodvibes

In case anyone else gets sick, know that you can still get the shot of antibiotics instead of taking a weekly dose that needs to be refrigerated. My son came down with Strep the day before we left for a 2 week trip to the Grand Canyon and there is no way to keep antibiotics refrigerated at the bottom of the Grand Canyon, so they gave him the shot. Poor kid - I HATED those when I was a kid, always thought oral anitbiotics were a big step up. But just in case, do know that they are still available. Traveling with liquid medicine is a hassle for the airline security as well as keeping it refrigerated.

Sending you and your family "get well and STAY well" vibes!

This sounds like what my husband came home with from Disney a couple of weeks ago:scared: So, at least you are getting it now and may be feeling better by the time you go. DH put off going to the Dr and ended up VERY sick, he couldn't stand to swallow. He had 2 rounds of antibiotics, a nasal spray for congestion & vicatin so that he could stand to eat or drink.

So, you may want to bring along any medicine you might even think you'll need. DH was really irritated because he couldn't get anything that contained pseudoephedrine (sp?) in it at the world and we didn't have a car and he didn't want to take a cab just for that.

I am sooo thankful the kids didn't catch it. I was popping my zicam as much as the label allowed. Gave the kids their vitamins religiously and we washed our hands faithfully, disinfected the house as best as I could and sort of stayed away from dad. Poor guy.
