Disney Imagineer Jason Surrell has left the company

Walt disney imagineer Jason Surrell has reportedly left Disney from multiple sources yesterday. Now today it's been reported by the same people that he has a new job with Universal Creative. Surrell worked on NFL projects, HM refurb, PoTC refurb, and multiple other projects.

Most recently Surrell was caught in a twitter fight with disney fans and bloggers on Twitter. @2Manhattans his twitter handle is no longer in service. He was also fighting with fans on the popular disney forums on wdwmagic.com. With all of that he has supposedly left the company on his own terms not because of those incidents.

Disappointing, but it sounds like there were some issues there behind the scenes.

His books are phenomenal, and I highly recommend his books on Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, and the Disney Mountains. All are excellent.

I heard he did not leave on his own terms. Disney has only the very best and top renowned experts assigned to do Avatar Land and Star Wars Land ---- could be- he was very upset about that!!

He's a writer not someone who designs top notch attractions. He is also a face he was at most of Disney public events that imagineers were present. I don't think it had to do with avatar or star wars at all.

Yes but not all imagineers design and build rides. There are writers, builders, painters, concept artists, designers, civil engineers, electrical, mechanical, etc. imagineering is more than you think. And there is absolutely no confirmation that he is at universal it is just a rumor that was started by Ricky Brigante on twitter.

OK thanks- I thought Imagineers were only actual engineers.......I didn't know it extended to artists and writers and so on. That's pretty cool!!

Exactly Mary Blair who was an imagineer for small world was a designer and artist.

Well he deleted his twitter so I can't find that info but it seems he was in on the whole universal vs disney debate on wdwmagic.
