Hi. I had a question about days you had left. We recently went to disney and I was wondering if you happened to know where I can sell my tickets at? One of the kids got sick and we came back early. Thanks

Be prepared for lots of replies on this one. The tickets are non transferable. If you want to sell them I suggest you do it quietly in your area.

Why not just hold on to them? They are good forever.

Welcome to the Dis Boards.

Welcome to DIS, cleopatra1us. You do not have to be sorry for asking a question.

safetymom and ducklite are right, the tickets are "non-transferrable", and, no, Disney will not refund your money because they ARE good for life. That's the good news. You can hang onto them for another trip (that'd be MY choice ;) ) or as safetymom mentioned, sell them quietly in your area. You may find someone at work or pass them on to someone in your family that is going.

I'm sorry that you had to cut your trip short, but I hope that it was a good one just the same!

sorry for asking

Hi there. As you found out, lots of people on this site are real sticklers for the rules. Here's a hint:

Don't ask about using the GF's or Poly beach to view the fireworks or if you can re-use the endless refill mugs from a prior trip on your upcoming trip. Both of these questions will incite certain groups to track you down at home, drag you mercilessly into the street, and pelt you with stuffed character dolls.

As for the unused tickets, unless you're never, ever planning to go back, I'd just hold on to them.

The problem with selling them is that the buyer has absolutely no way of knowing (until they get to Disney) how many days are left. A person is TAKING A MAJOR RISK if they buy them from a stranger. You really should either keep them for future use or sell them to a friend or family member.

Don't give up on these boards because of a FEW.

They are a wealth of info. But, yes indead, some people are relentless, and assume that you are out to break rules, instead of asking info.

Like others have said, Reselling tickets is against policy, but I've heard of and have seen where others have done it, without a problem.

Another hint- Don't talk about taking kids out of school either.

Good Luck. I hope you get to finish your Disney trip soon. I hope no serious illnesses. I know the feeling. Someone in our house always get sick before we go. Luckily, no cancelled vacations, just dr. runs the day before.

:D :D

Mady and Debbie...........No, it was no serious illness. My son came down with tonsilitis (?) while we were there and he was running a really nasty fever. We knew it was going to take him more than a day or two to recover so decided to call it quits.

LOL thanks for the laugh. Although I suspect its probably true.

Welcome to the Dis cleopatra1 us. Unforunately there are some people on here that CANNOT answer a thread without being nasty. Even though there are ways to answer questions regarding the rules without doing so.

I have to say that I would NEVER purchase tickets from someone I don't know and encourage my friends to avoid EBAY like the plague on this. While I am sure you are honest there is no way to tell on EBAY and I have read at least ONE nightmare story of a girl who got the ticket thinking it had days left and it didn't. Now I have "gifted" tickets to my friends and they have "gifted" me with cash, but that is a whole different story.

Technically Disney and the amusement park industry appears to have gotten a law passed in Florida that makes it illegal to resell these tickets.

If I understand right the law states that the purchase, or sale cannot take place in Florida. If the seller, or buyer is from Florida, than it cannot take place. I'm not positive on this, but I think I read that somewhere.

Here is the quote, found by someone and printed on this site:

Here is the Florida Statute 817.361 "Resale of multiday or multievent ticket.--Whoever offers for sale, sells, or transfers in connection with a commercial transaction, with or without consideration, any nontransferable ticket or other nontransferable medium designed for admission to more than one amusement location or other facility offering entertainment to the general public, or for admission for more than 1 day thereto, after said ticket or other medium has been used at least once for admission, is guilty of a misdemeanor of the second degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082 or s. 775.083. A nontransferable ticket or other nontransferable medium is one on which is clearly printed the phrase: "Nontransferable; must be used by the same person on all days" or words of similar import. Upon conviction for a second or subsequent violation of this subsection, such person is guilty of a misdemeanor of the first degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082 or s. 775.083."
Chapter 817-Florida Statutes

I think the keyword here is COMMERCIAL transaction.

As to EBAY, I would never ever buy one from there.

Thanks for posting that quote Gail.

I saw something else to though. It was by someone that obviously had sold tickets on E-Bay. It was the one, that talked about the Florida thing.

Just so that you all know and so that I can go to bed without PMing half a dozen of you, I have removed the posts that got "personal" AND the ones that referred to them. I hope that you all will understand. PM me if you would like to talk about it.

By the way - Welcome cleopatra! :)

Just curious........

It seems like there are a number of places, in Orlando, that sell tickets that have been partially used. If Disney and/or the state of FL was really serious about the statute, it seems that these places would have been out of business a long time ago.

Just for the record, however, I would never purchase partially used tickets, because, as previous posters have said, there's just no way of knowing.

One point on the "never expire" line - they are only valid at the parks that are open when you get the Hopper. I went in '96 (pre-AK, but with magnetic stipe) and had a leftover day. I went back in '99 and tried to use it at AK and there was much "oooh, we shouldn't really be doing this" by quite a few CMs but it was eventually swapped over to a new one which I was able to use at AK. The new one had, in very small writing on the back, which parks it was valid for. Admittedly they are not opening new parks every year, and it won't be a problem until they do open another park, but something to keep in mind when putting them in a drawer to be pulled out a long time in the future (not sure about the "PLUS" options....)
Way back in pre-historic times, I went to Tokyo Disneyland. There was no park entry ticket, only ride tickets that never expired they were meant to be able to be used at any Disneyland (only California at that time obviously), but I don't think they'd be of any use anywhere now. :D

Hi and Welcome cola!

I do believe the WDW has changed their "rule" about tickets only being going for the parks that were opened when the ticket was purchased.

Please someone correct me if I am wrong. :)

The back of Brook's ticket says "Not valid for parks commencing operations after 5/1/1998". I just bought this ticket for her, it is dated 5/27/03 (guess that is not a "just bought", but close!:) )
Not correcting, just informing. ;)

Gail and Beth are both right. :)

The old tickets that were purchased prior to MGM and AK opening do in fact say on them in varying language that they are either not good for parks opening after such-and-such a date or they are only valid for admission into MK and EC.

For MGM, Disney would charge a premium to upgrade those old tickets to include admission to the new park. In MGM's case, the tickets had to be physically handled and stamped by the gate CM. If they found anyone using old tickets prior to MGM opening, they sent them to the Guest Relations window to upgrade or buy new tickets. This lasted until around Thanksgiving of 1995 when Disney switched to the ATS ticketing system. At that point Disney decided that the amount of pre-MGM tickets still in people's hands wasn't worth the time, money, and effort of reprogramming of the ATS database to exclude them from a single park while allowing them into the other two. So at that point, Disney started allowing any ticket to be used at MGM regardless of date of purchase and regardless of parks operating at the time of purchase.

They did a very similar thing when AK opened in April '98. From opening day through January of '99, they charged a fee to upgrade old tickets that were purchased prior to AK's opening. But due to the large gap between projected AK attendence and the actual number of guests visiting AK, Disney dropped the upgrade fees and started allowing any ticket admission to the park.

So now any ticket can be used for any park.

What they will do in the future if they build theme park #5 is unknown. But since Gail's ticket states "Not valid for parks commencing operations after 5/1/1998", it seems like they will do an upgrade fee for any new park as well. But so far, there have been no theme parks opened after 5/1/1998. ;)

Golden Oldie, you are a FONT of ticket information! :)

THANK you! :)
