I'm looking for information on Disney's Hilton Head resort. We don't currently own DVC (but would like to someday), but we do own a Hyatt timeshare that is part of Inteval Int'l. Therefore, we have access to Disney's timeshares.

We are thinking of attempting to use a timeshare at Hilton Head next summer. We have 6-year old twin daughters. What I'm wondering about is what the various attractions are at Hilton Head. My daughters love the beach so I'm sure it will be great, but I'm wondering about the special "Disney touches" that are so evident in the WDW resorts. (We stayed at the Polynesian a year ago and loved the whole resort feel!)

Any comments from those who have visited HH and either loved it or not?

Thanks in advance!

Besides the information available at www.disney.com, I have a website devoted to the resort. I am assuming that you will be trying to exchange to use the resort. I do not believe that the activities are available to people not staying on property.

As Tommy references, your post was not totally clear. If you plan on staying at a non-Disney resort and use Disney facilities then that would not be allowed. However, I think you are really saying you would like to trade your Hyatt time in exchange to stay at DVC. That would be great if you can do it. But please be aware that summer is a very popular time for Hilton Head. While other timeshares have 'access' to DVC resorts, people can only get in when a DVC member trades out. This does not happen that much, and when they do trade out, they would tend to use their points to trade a much lower value week. Since a DVC member can use their points at any resort, it makes more sense for them to trade a low season OKW resort for a week (160 points 1-B/R, 218 points 2-B/R) rather than a Hilton Head (259 points 1-B/R, 330 points 2-B/R) summer week.

Because of the 'trading power' of DVC, it seems there are always more wanting to trade into DVC than those wanting to trade out. Thus someone trading out would be very unlikely to offer a summer Hilton Head week for something else when they could easily offer a lower point cost unit and still get the trade they want.

Unfortunately many timeshare salesmen state that other timeshares can trade into Disney, but in practice the success rate is quite small. Maybe our resident timeshare expert, Dean, will extrapolate on this.

Unfortunately, your chances of trading your Hyatt week for a Disney Hilton Head summer week are probably quite small, if not totally impossible.

Nevertheless, I do wish you luck. If by any chance you should get it, then you'll quickly see why we all love DVC.

Disney HH Resort is less "Disney" than WDW resorts. It still offers the haulmark service associated with all things Disney but you will find less animation and theming at HH. Relaxing would be more the word to describe it. There are few reminders you're even with Disney except the Tigger & Pooh topiaries at the entrance. There are some kid's activities which you will learn about when you arrive.

Try calling DVC directly and let them know you'd be interested in buying some points at HH.

It's a lovely resort but it's not specifically geared for little kids which makes it nice for those families with teens and beyond.

HH has a wonderful activities staff, with programs designed for all age groups- including adults.

Many activities are geared towards the water (canoeing, kayaking, sailing, dolphin tours, fishing, crabbing), but there are a wide variety of offerings.

You should also visit Tommy's website- as he has a very complete description of what the resort and island has to offer.

Enjoy!

DVC HH is a very nice resort but there are other timeshare on HH in better locations and just as nice. Because of the way DVC works, you will not be able to trade into DVC HH in the summer. You might have a chance at one of the other very nice resorts there if you're looking for trading. If you just want to go a few days, consider cash through Disney or renting from a member. You'd need to rent from a HH owner to have any chance of getting what you want.

Dean I wish you would contact me by email. You seem to know alot about Timeshares. My email address is jdpx4@yahoo.com - we bought one on HH (not DVC) and I have some questions (general) about the point exchange deal (it is through RCI). At your convenience, see if you can email me with your address so I won't waste DVC boardspace for rival questions. Appreciate it!
