Disney goes to trial over safety of Tower of Terror

Got to love the great USA, where everyone and anyone can take ZERO personal responsibility in understanding the risks and benefits to the actions they take.

Absolutely ridiculous! All these stupid lawsuits are going to suck all the fun out of life! We'll be so safe we'll be bored to death!!!

How can he prove that the stroke he had 23 days later was actually caused by ToT? He just apparently wants to provide his grandchildren with their college funds by suing Disney. Whatever.

His doctor is probably getting a cut... :sad2:

I don't think this attraction is particularly intense. I've had more stress driving out of mulit-level parking garages.:confused3

I agree with PP... Disney "thrill" rides are relatively tame compared to rides at other parks. If the guy had gone to Universal Studios first, he would be suing them instead. He obviously had some sort of pre exsiting condition or something else that made him susceptible to the stroke, otherwise everybody who rode ToT would be rushing to the hospital 23 days after riding.

Give me a break . . . .

The man was in his 70s when he went on the ride. He already had health problems. Strokes are not caused by movement of the head. They are caused by blockages or bleeds . It takes time and eating the wrong foods for years and years generally before you have a stroke. Or maybe your blood vessels have a weaker spot that give and bleeds into the brain.

Gee maybe I should sue....I am sure I went to a Disney park before I had my first TIA......like ya said" give me a break! " LOL

The signs outside the ride warn against riding for the health problems the man had. I really can't believe it has actually made it to trial.

Oh Please..................

How is TOT different than any other "drop" ride that you see in Six Flags or any other place? Serioulsy, this makes my blood boil that people would sue just to get money when clearly the man had health problems. My 85 year old dad (at the time) went on TOT many times with no issues, but he was in good health at the time.

I think that lawyer should be sued for frivilous lawsuits and wasting tax payer money!!!!

I can't believe some people! Stuff like this makes me so furious. When did these, and countless other, morons decide it's ok to completely abdicate all personal responsibility and accountability?! There's a saying: if you can't swim, you keep your a$$ outta the pool! But of course these people would declare that their "personal liberties/rights to happiness" are being infringed upon if they're told it might not be in their best interest to ride a ride like ToT. Just another case of someone wanting something for nothing and blaming someone else for their problems.

As stupid and frivolous as this is---it's IN court!!
And lord only knows what a jury will do if the "razzle-dazzle" from the persons lawyers actually overcomes common sense. There are a whole host of jury decisions where exactly that has happened.
There are lot of naive and rather clueless people out there and goodness knows they may have found their way onto this jury.

Disney has got to have a whole team of Lawyers that know their stuff as well as the Lawyer for the old man. I have to suspect this guy is out for the money and nothing else. If that is the case he would have accpeted an offer to settle out of court. Since this was not settled out of court and this guy is probably just after money that tells me Disney did not offer him anything. With the team of Lawyers Disney probably has, they must feel pretty confident in their case if they did not offer to settle out of court.

Then again they may offered and the guy is more greedy than we imagine and is going to court.

Frankly, it's more stressful driving in Boston than a ride on ToT.

When will people begin to understand that things happen in life...and it's not always somebody's fault?

The key to Disney's defense (and this guy losing - badly) is hinted at briefly in the article linked.

ToT -- while it seems like a lot of 'stress' is placed on the body.. actually doesn't place any more 'Gs' on your body than a ride in a fast car.

And actually lesser force acts on your body than even Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.. (or probably Goofy's Barnstormer)..

This guy (and his lawyer) are out to lunch on this one.

This is right up there with the person who sued Disney back in the late 80's because they claimed the elevator ride to "Seabase Alpha" at "The Living Seas" punctured his ear drums with the speed of the descent.

The "Hydrolator" actually moved about 2 inches up and down to simulate the elevator ride. Disney's defense consisted of opening both sides of the Hydrolator doors to show that the elevator didn't move more than 2 inches up and down to simulate the start and end of the elevator ride.

Quickest lawsuit ever.

True story too.

I agree with those who said as stupid as the case sounds, don't be surprised if the jury awards the man a boatload of money. Think back to the lady who sued McDonald's because she spilled hot coffee on herself after holding it between her knees, I believe. She was initially awarded millions! :sad2:

Amazing to me this ever made it to court, though. I was too freaked out to ride ToT until 2006 just because it looked so scary. Went on it finally that year and found it to be a riot. You come out of your seat not much more than you do on one of those rocking Pirate Ship rides at the average fair or small amusement park. I could see (maybe) someone making this argument about Rock 'n Roller Coaster or the "real" version of Mission: Space, but Tower? Really?

I don't know whether to laugh or to cry in disgust over this. First time I went on that "ride," I was 9 years old. I thought it moved. Figured out by the time I next went back to Epcot at age 15 that no, it doesn't actually go anywhere. He's bound to have known this, right? Unbelievable either way!

Even if the "ride" had made his eardrum rupture I still don't get why he would sue. Ear drums rupture all the time and it's really no big deal!
