Can u take a Disney gift card to guest services and have it applied to your account? Or can you use them directly in the gift shops on board?

Unfortunately I can't answer your specific questions however as a strong proponent of the Disney gift cards I can tell they are redeemable for nearly everything in my experience. Last year I purchased about $1k in cards, when I called guest services they were able to apply them to my resort room in advance so I could just work them down so I would suspect you would have a similar option. They're even accepted at the vast majority of places at Disney Springs.

Thanks! Thinking of getting them for my kids for Christmas so they can buy something on our upcoming cruise with their own “money”!

Yes. I've always purchased my onboard spending in gift cards and called guest services ahead of time and added them - it helps me control our budget (or at least it makes me think I'm controlling it LOL).

I used a couple of them on our cruise and put them on our stateroom account. I think I did $750 because it covered our dolphin excursion and almost everything else on ship minus about $20 I think. I used the email/digital gift cards from Target rather than the physical gift cards. I used my Target Red Card (linked to my bank account...not a credit card) and saved 5% on the cards. For our next one I used the same thing to pay for almost the entire reservation. All together I saved a couple hundred bucks that way.

You have to use a credit card (or cash). You can go daily to pay off charges on the stateboard account with the Disney gift card. You can use them directly in the gift shops as well.

Edited to say: when we tried on our Dream cruise two weeks ago, we were told no, it had to be applied to a certain charge. Good thing we made a few charges by then...

Between the Target card & OBB, we've saved over $10,000. Big fan of the Target card
