I saw where a $500 Disney gift card was on sale for $480 at our local big box store. The catch is its an e-gift card. Not a physical card. Does any have any experience using these at the parks? I know it can be used online but really want this to be used at the park & restaurants. Also, can these be tied to your magic band?

They cannot be tied to your magic band.

Best advice I can offer is to get a plastic one (or more than one if you are planning on putting more than $1000 on gift cards) for the lowest amount somewhere (Target, drug stores, etc.), add them onto DisneyGiftCard.com, and then you can transfer money onto it.

Be aware that you'll automatically need 2 cards if you're planning to get 2 of the e-cards and combine them because you can ONLY have $1000 on it max and you can't split one between two cards, so you'd first need to combine the 2 small amount cards (like $25, so combine them into $50 and you'd have the other one empty for the 2 $500 cards).

An eGC will include the card # and a pin # which can be manually entered by the CM, as well as a code that can be scanned at the register. But I've found that the easiest way to deal with each is to have a physical GC that I can transfer the funds to by using the disneygiftcard.com website as described by @Dug720

If you're going to use mobile ordering you could put the gc # in the notes section of your phone so that you can copy/paste it on the payment screen. It worked fine for us last week.

We always add e-cards to our mobile wallet on IPhone. At registers, they scan it. At restaurants, the either write the number on the ticket or ask us to do it. Sometimes, they have a scanner that reads it. Never a problem.

Theoretically you're right, but it doesn't always work. A friend of mine had issues with that at every place she tried - we ended up using my physical one and then she paid me back.

The other issue with e-gift cards is mobile ordering. Believe only the physical GC will work for that as well. I don't think they're a big deal if you plan to use it for shopping, souvenirs etc but I much prefer having the physical gift card. Also, you can't link a GC to your magic band.

I buy digital cards all the time.. I use the cards to pay off my trip then the rest gets transferred to one card that i carry. They also send you a digital card in your email so if you really wanted to you can have the store scan it on your phone.
( just buy one at the store any amount)

On March 1 we renewed our APs at the Disney Ticket Office in DS. I had both a physical GC and a printout (with bar code) of an e-GC bought from Target at a discount. The CM scanned the e-GC bar code first and then ran the plastic GC (which was going to have a balance remaining). No problems with either one.

Nice method
