So here is the deal. We are going to WDW for the first time in February! Santa Claus has decided this year he is going to get the kids Disney Gift Cards to spend at the park. Being how Santa is a fairly busy fellow, I decided to help him out a bit and do some of the leg work. I went to the Disney store online and ordered five gift cards. I got to checkout and went to pay for them. To my utter amazement it stated it would cost me 44 US dollars to ship five plastic cards to my house in Calgary. I could not believe it and cancelled my order until I clarified this. Has anyone else experienced ridiculous shipping charges such as the ones I was quoted? How else can I get a gift card without paying these prices if this is the case? Any help from you ol' timers who know the ropes would be greatly appreciated.

If you know anyone who lives in the states it is cheaper to ship to them then they send it to you, I do that with my Disney Store stuff that I buy.
Or sometimes it is cheaper to just go over for an afternoon and get it yourself at the stores.

I 100% agree that they charge way to much to ship to us, they wanted to charge me $33.00 to ship 4 pins the other day too.. it was 2X the price of the order.

I don't think they actually figure out what they're shipping or how much they weigh before they charge you. I think it just charges per item or something. It's pretty outrageous and so unfortunate since I'd buy from them if it wasn't so expensive. I've only bought one thing from them in the past (way in the past)...a mousketeer teddy bear that I had sent to a friend in Kentucky. He brought it up to me when he visited.

Perhaps you can buy Disney Dollars for the kids instead of a gift card? Do they sell those at your local Disney store?

The only way you can get Disney Dollars is to call WDW and talk to merchandising. They will ship them to you for $3. This is what I did last Christmas. Several family members all wanted to give some, so I put in a big order. If you want less than $50, they can process this over the phone. If you want more, than you will have to mail WDW a letter stating what you want, in what denominations (1,5,10 I think) and include a money order which also has the $3 shipping fee added in. I ordered them early Decemeber and got them in 1 1/2 weeks, which I didn't think was too bad in peak mailing season. As far as I know, there is no other option up here for us! Give the 1-800# a call to make sure they haven't changed anything in the last year first.

I contacted the Disney Store in Calgary. We actually had 2 Disney stores one in Chinook and one at Southcentre and the Chinook one is closed. The lady at Southcentre told me that my only other option is to get someone who may be going down and get me one from the store direct as the Disney dollars and gift cards are available only down there. BOY am I kicking myself now. My dh was in San Antonio last week right beside the Disney store and could have picked them up! I have received pm for this so I have to decide what to do?

Ok we came up with a plan. My dh uncle lives in Houston. He is going to pick them up for us and send them to us. What a gong show LOL:teeth:
