I am considering buying a disney gift card to pay for our dining and tips for our upcoming trip, has anyone done this? Did it work out? Are there any places that dont accept the card like DTD restaurants or snack carts?
TIA

:thumbsup2
We did this on our last trip (July 2007), and it worked great! We used the gift cards all over...sit down...counter...gift shops...paying for tix @ typhoon lagoon. I don't think we could use them for carts though.

We are going on the DDP and we just bought $500 in Gift Cards to use to pay for tips, appetizers OOP, the character meals we're paying for OOP, etc.

We'll use cash if we need to buy something at a cart, etc. But we'll use the gift cards where ever we can.

We leave soon so we haven't had a chance to use them yet!

We used gift cards. I don't remember having any difficulty. Our school sells t$25hem through the SCRIP program as a fund-raiser. We paid for our Disney Dining when we arrived at the resort. We used them like cash for charges to our room. At the time, our school only offered $25 and $100, which was cumbersome, but, now they sell $1000, which for sure, I would use as cash for charging to the room.

I don't know about all the carts accepting gift cards, but I know that we used them at all the carts at the Food & Wine at Epcot. I think as long as they can swipe a card (room key), they can take a gift card. We are planning on doing the same thing for this upcoming May trip.

We just returned on the 28th of Jan. Used them all over the place. There are only a handful of carts that you can't use them because they can't be swiped there. They work great though. :thumbsup2

That sounds like a great idea...If we can do that, I may not even get the DDP. Just so I understand, TS and CS accepts the gift card?

Gift cards are used just like the Disney Dollars used to be. You can use the gift card at any location on Disney property(including vending carts), that have a card reader, ie; for credit cards, DDP etc.

They also print out the balance that is left on the gift card for your receipt. IMHO, much better than the Disney Dollars and I prefer using it in place of the DDP. :thumbsup2

That's my 2cnts.

I paid for our whole trip using the Scrip Disney gift cards this past summer. It was then 7%, but now it has dropped to 2%. I would still do it again because it made it so easy. I simply charged everything to my room, then would pay with a gift card. Made it simple, got 7% back, and it made me feel better than carrying a lot of cash.

have any of you used them at dtd restaurants, specifically raglan road, the margarita bar, and planet hollywood? Those were the only places I wasnt sure would accept them. I do intend to carry some cash but I thought it would be nice to have everything on a card for meals.

I was thinking about just paying for our tips, OOP expenses (apps, drinks, etc) each meal...and not charging anything to the room.

I thought you could only attach a credit card to your room. Can you attach the gift card to your room?

Can someone explain Scrips to me, and the advantages of it?

Thanks!

Its a program that involves your school selling gift certs year round. From national chains and local vendors.

Each vendor offers back a certain percentage to the buyer. Some schools donate that money toward the school. Our school (private school), we get a tuition credit.

For instance, Marriott, offers $50 gift cards with a 10% rebate. So for every $50 I buy, I get $5 off our tuition. We usually at a Marriott for about 10 nights a year. So that one is worth it to me.

People use it for their groceries, gas. If you play the "game" right, you can get 500-600 off your tuition.

It great at Christmas. Everyone in my family gets a gift card or, I buy the gift card and do the purchasing myself. Like I buy about $300 at K-mart - and use that for all the extras that come about around the holiday season.

I don't do the Disney Gift cards through school because I stil prefer that my kids have actual Disney dollar, so they can peel off their hard earned savings.

Probably in a couple years, I'll switch, but not now.
