Disney Gift cards at US Targets

I'm wondering if anyone has opened an US Target account to take advantage of the 5% discount on Disney gift cards? We're flying out of Syracuse so I could easily go to a store to purchase them before our flight but I'm not sure if the hassle is worth the $62.50 savings. I would need about 25 gift cards and I have no idea how many the stores typically have in stock. Anyone else have experience?

Target stores usually have a ton of gift cards out (at every checklane and back by the other gift cards in electronics) and if they don't they have hoards more in back (usually). You can absolutely buy several with no problems and get the discount with your red card. I've taken advantage of it to pay for some of our cruise (about $500 total in gift cards, over about 6 months time). I'm a target team member so I get my employee discount plus the red card discount, which is a nice savings. To me even $50 dollars in savings is worth it-it's part of a meal, tips, or some nice souvenirs.

Just be sure to keep the gift cards even after you used them to pay, because if for any reason you need a refund it will go back on the gift cards first and you must still have them on hand.

Have fun saving!

Not sure about the gift cards, but you don't need to have a U.S. Target account to get the 5% discount at U.S. Targets -- at least, if you're using the credit (not debit) version of the red card.

We have the RBC Target Red Card MasterCard, and get the 5% discount whenever we shop at Target. Of course, there's still the currency conversion fee, but unless you have a stash of greenbacks, you'd pay that no matter what mode of payment you use.

Thanks for the tip. I had read the T and C before and just re-read them again and it says the 5% discount is only good for Cdn stores. However, right now they are offering another one time 5% off that expires in Jan. It too says in Cdn stores but I wonder if that would work in the States stores as well.

ETA: I have a Capital One Aspire card and don't pay any foreign currency exchange fee. The RBC card you mention charges 2.5%, unless this special one-time additional 5% off works, it hardly seems worth it now.

Whaaaa?

The Canadian RBC Target red card mastercard works in the US stores as well for 5% off???

I will second this and say that we have also used our Canadian Red Card in the US and received the 5% off. It definitely works:thumbsup2

It is such great news that we can use our Cdn Target cards to get the discount.

Yippee!! Thanks for the info.

I'm hoping Target US has the $10 off $50 purchase coupon again in December and I will be combining this 5% off with that for Disney GCs. :woohoo:

What. Where do you find this coupon???

The coupon is not available......yet.

Around the 2nd week of December 2012 and (I believe) December 2011, it popped up here:

http://coupons.target.com/

You can only print 2 coupons per computer (so hopefully you have several computers in your household).

There were threads on the Budget Board last year on this.

Thank you! Is there a certain amount you can use.for each transaction? Like...if I buy 3 Disney GCs can I use 3 coupons??

Ok I went back to look at the magical internet, and I was slightly incorrect on the coupon - sorry guys I did not mean to mislead you!!. It was actually a coupon for a $10 Target gift card when you spend $50.

I did 1 $50 Disney gift card per transaction last year. I would not recommend trying more than 1 coupon per transaction (ie: $100) because the coupons may limit you.

Here is a blog post on it dated Dec 12 2012:

Thanks for all of your info. Too bad I missed out on this one. Our flight leaves from Syracuse on the 7th, timing would have been perfect but it says the offer is no longer available. :(

Those links are from last year, 2012. I am hoping that they have a similar offer for this year, 2013. So you may still be in luck - cross your fingers!

Ok thanks, I missed that. I'll be stalking the site so I don't miss it. Thanks again for the info.

Do you get the $10 gift card if let's say you bough a $50 Disney gift card and let's say a couple other things too?

Yep, last year it was a minimum $50 spend. Check out the link I posted for details, but yep they will definitely take as much of your money as you like. :thumbsup2
