Disney gift cards at Target...very large hassle

While that makes perfect sense and is what I expected that hasn't been the case for me when buying them online.

I have been using $25 Target giftcards that I have earned from Swagbucks and paying the remainder with my Target Red Debit card. It has been breaking down like this, $50 Disney giftcard~ $47.50 with the redcard minus $25 Target gift card equals me paying $22.50 with free shipping when ordered online with the red card.

Not sure if it is a fluke but I have bought 4 $50 giftcards online like this on separate occasions or if it would work in store but...........

I'm doing same! You can use up to 4 GC's per order, so I use 3 $5 GC's I have saved from target promos & 1 $25 earned from swagbucks. Total is $47.50 after entering my red card. I pay $7.50 for my $50 disney card. The rest is paid w/earned gift cards. I have $200 in disney cards so far doing it this way.

You only get the 5% Redcard discount on amounts that are paid with your Target Redcard (credit or debit). So if you want to save the 5%, you need to use the giftcards for other Target purchases and use your Redcard for the Disney giftcards.

For example, if you have $50 in purchases and use your Redcard, you save $2.50. But if you have $10 in Target giftcards, those come off first, so you only save the 5% on the $40 you pay with your Redcard, so just $2.

I forgot to mention that I got these giftcards by couponing and shopping their weekly deals. So whether I use them now on disney giftcards or later on other purchases it will still be the same.

This "savings" of 5% just seems to be more trouble than its worth. Plus having to buy so many cards just doesn't seem worth it to me.

Saving $50 may not seem like "a lot" relative to your whole vacation expense but that $50 will almost fill the gas tank. Put in that perspective it's worth it

I guess if it is considerable savings it makes sense. But since I use my Disney rewards to buy tickets & food at Disneyland, I have no use for gift cards.

Of course, when Target sells these $50 gift cards for $38 for two weekends every December (24% off), the potential savings would dwarf any rewards you receive with the Disney Visa.

Paying for Disney expenses with Disney Gift Cards purchased at 15-34% off is an essential part of my Disney money saving strategy. I haven't seen the 34% discount since December 2010, but I can almost count on at least 15% savings every 6 months from either Target or a local grocery store.

Yep. You buy one $50 Disney Gift Card and a $10 Target Gift Card for $48, and repeat the process, using the $10 Target Gift Card from the previous transaction to reduce the amount you pay to $38. At the end, you walk out with x number of $50 Gift Cards and a $10 Target Gift Card. You have paid $38 for (x-1) of them, and $48 for one of them and the $10 Target Gift Card.

Wow! Too bad our Disney Trip is in November. I guess good deals on gift cards will help me convince my husband for the next Disney trip! I will definitely keep my eyes peeled for that discount. Sort of wondering how much longer Target will allow us to get deals on the giftcards. Hoping they don't change their policies anytime soon.

...not the "card I only use to buy Disney Gift Cards" kind of card.

It's folks in that category that are probably going to get declined -- it's all based on fraud protection formulas, etc. -- stuff beyond the average shopper's knowledge.

What I am saying is use the card, regularly for all kinds of purchases at Target, and you shouldn't have any trouble dropping a thousand bucks in a single transaction.

BTW, calling and checking your bank account balance isn't necessary, as the transaction does not process in "real time", meaning the REDCard doesn't pre-authorize against your linked bank account (the transaction will usually renconcile in 1-2 business days).
