Disney Gift Card question

My sons got Disney gift cards for their birthday. I was wondering if they can get disney dollars for them and then use them on the Disney cruise? Or does the cruise ship accept the gift cards?

I think that you will hear a variety of answers on this.

I was told that TDS Gift cards are meant for use that TDS only. And I have heard that they are to be used for merchandise only as well. But I have also heard that people HAVE gotten DDs with them and have used them towards the purchase of WDW passes. So go figure.

So my best suggestion is to give your local TDS a call and ask to speak to a manager and ask them. If they tell you that you CAN use them for DDs, then be sure to get their name and use it if you have to when you go do purchase.

I do not believe that the gift cards are good on the Cruises, but I do believe that DDs are.

There has been alot of confusion at the disney store about useing disney store gift cards to buy disney dollars. You are sopose to be able to buy DD and park tickets with TDS Gift Cards.

What is causing the confusion is that most of the time people try buying Disney Dollars with Merchindise Credit (which is only good for store merchindise).

I got a $10 gift card from TDS when I pre-ordered Treasure Planet and bought other merchandise as well. When I went back to use the gift card toward my DD purchase (I had called first and spoken with a manager), the manager on duty checked the back of the card (for codes, maybe?), saying that some gift cards are eligible for DD purchases and others are not. I was prepared to stand my ground, armed with the name of the manager I had spoken to a few days earlier, but apparently the card was the "right kind", as it was scanned in on the register successfully, and reduced my total balance due for the DDs.

So that might be another question to ask when you call your local DS to ask about this.

Sometimes there are restrictions with the "free gifts" you get at the register.
Also, sometimes what one cast member says may not always be true, it is very easy for a CM (even managers) to be misinformed, or for even the rules to change over night.
