Disney Gift Card.....I am confused

I have enough Disney Rewards dollars to pay for my room with some left over for spending in the parks. I have seen the advice on this board to go to the front desk and apply the Disney rewards dollars they day before checkout. That seems like a lot of trouble.

When I check in, can I just give them the rewards card along with my credit card with instructions to apply charges to the rewards card until it is used up then apply every thing else to the credit card?

It's really not a lot of trouble at all. You will need a credit card on file anyway. Anyone at the desk can do it at any time. I usually settle my bill late the night before I am checking out. Last time all of my charges were covered by Disney visa rewards card. It takes just a couple of minutes.
