Disney Gift Card for eating purposes?

My husband has "earned" a gift card from virtually anywhere he choses. We are going to WDW in October. Can a Disney Gift Card be used at most of the restaurants there? We are staying at the Caribean Beach Resort; can it be used there at their food places?

I've never heard of a Disney gift card. Is it a Disney Store gift card? If it is that then you cannot use it anywhere at WDW as it isn't accepted.
