Disney Gift Card Deals

I kind of agree with both of you. If Target sells a $100 GC for $100, that does not hit the Income statement. It would be cash in, but also a liability, for a net 0 which does not hit the income. However if you sell a $100 GC for $95, now you have cash in of $95 and a liability of $100. This will hit the income statement as -$5. Breakage will factor in on a trailing 7 years or whatever the local rule is, as in $X of outstanding GCs expired this year which were sold 7 years ago, so they'll write those off, now, on the + side of the balance sheet. So given Target is over 7 years old, breakage will show, but it will be the cards sold 7 years ago that are reflected in it today.

And I agree totally with havaneselover, in that gift cards given as a gift are likely to get lost or partially spent and discarded, but gift cards churned are not. There is a 0% chance that I'll lose a GC in my deals... but there is some chance that my son, if given one as a gift, would lose it, or partial spend it and end up losing some leftover values on it.
On there rare occasian that they sell a same store GC, then yes, there would be a charge to the IS. But that was not what we were talking about.
Yes cards get lost or are never redeemed. But that doesn't improve profitability.

Of course it's a glitch. If it wasn't, then you could call Target, right now, and ask them... Can I buy a gift card online, pay with a gift card, and get 5% off? They will tell you no. If you called 10 times and talked to 10 different reps, each one would tell you no. If you escalated each call to 10 managers, each one would tell you no. It is not allowed, per Target policy. The 5% only applies to the portion on the Red Card. I'm not saying they don't know about the glitch. It is most likely as Marionette says not throwing out the baby with the bath... or simply not enough of a loss-generator to warrant a change... but it is definitely a glitch. With just how public it's become, they could close it down, or just close down the people they suspect are reselling. It's not always worth it to fix a glitch. For years you could exploit glitches like adult meals on kid DDPs. If it sells the DDP and is profitable to give away a little food, then it's not worth fixing. Same thing with multiple Magic Bands. When it's no longer profitable, they'll adjust the tools and lock it down.
You are basing this on the assumption that CS knows every nuance of their policy. Like How some say yes, you can buy that Disney card with a target card and some say no.
I think I would sooner trust a Disney Bus Driver than Target CS.

Also with Kroger can you redeem fuel points up to the cost of gas or is there a limit? Giant eagle allows you to redeem up to the cost of gas so with a lot of fuel perks you can actually have a "free" tank of gas.

That would be nice. Kroger limits you to $1 off at a time.

Oh that really stinks. Now I really see why people say they have to time their Kroger gift card purchases.

Can you buy Disney gift cards with Walmart gift cards? And do you have to do it online or in the store? I've been doing target but since shopkick no longer has target gift cards I'm trying to find way to get my Disney gift cards! Thanks in advance!

You can definitely do it in store. I always cashed out of shopkick for target:(

Just wanted to point out to anybody that's going to take advantage of the $100 for $90 Southwest gift cards via Ebay that it's a limit of 5 per buyer :)

so.... is it possible to purchase WM gc's at GCM on Ebay? OR best place to buy on Ebay?

Target gift cards are back on shop kick!! Just went to buy a Walmart card and they had the target back!! Just no 25 ones
Hmmm. Perk is out of $25 Target GCs as well. I don't accrue kicks fast enough to cash out for $25 of anything. I used to cash in for $5 Target GCs back when you could combine them. My last couple of redemptions have been for Starbucks.

In the past, I have bought tickets through Orbitz using the Ebates portal when they had a daily double promotion on activities. Today it's at 3.75%, which isn't bad. Maybe check Travelocity or Expedia too; sometimes they have buy 4 days get 3 free or something similar.

I've done this in the past as well! I've gotten up to 20% cashback on activities (park tickets with a buy 3 get 2day promo) on Orbtiz through either Shopathome or Ebates! Plus I try to combine a good hotel cashback rate with Disney RO discount and stack with Orbitz (Travelocity, Expedia, etc.. ) coupon code. So.. we use the Disney gift cards mostly for Food/souvenirs (though we don't buy many souvies anymore). I so wish they'd offer something huge like that again!

Unless you are 1+1=3 finance person, it is very focused by law.
Just read the latest guidance on this and the was a change in recent years. So if the GC owner does not reside in a state that requires escheatment for GCs, then it can be recognized as revenue provided they are reasonably assured that the owner will not redeem. Again this is many years into the future after the sale is made.

You are coming at it as an accountant while I'm coming at it as an economist. I do know how to add:)
Last time I looked, the Economist didn't have to sit with government auditors to explain revenue recognition.

The 1+1=3 was not an insult. That is legitimate. In accounting, 1+1 does not 2.

I'm new to the boards, and have read prob 200 pages of posts before asking this, but I'm still not sure I have it totally right.

So I buy the ebay gift cards from target and then use the ebay gift cards to buy target gc on ebay....
Question 1. I don't get the 5% redcard discount on target.com for the ebay cards right? so how is this generating much $, even shopping through ebates?
Question 2. How do I find good target giftcards on ebay? I can't find where to find cards from GCM like you all keep talking about? Just individual sellers....

Thanks!

Does CVS sell disney cards? I have a deal on my ebay for $100 GC to CVS...for $88, wonder if I could use the CVS card to buy a disney card there??? Anyone know?
