Disney Gift Card Deals

Buttrcp16's post above made me think of Hisgirl's post below. It is from the Theme Park Strategies board and although it was written regarding park behavior, it might also apply to buying large numbers of discounted gift cards. I think the whole idea of social/business norms is fascinating.
Yep, in Hisgirl's post, when it says a person is "sacrificing hard earned money" for something..... it's a whole different ballgame!

If I came upon a tray of Target/Disney gift cards with a sign that said "Free gift cards," I would take them ALL!! ;)

All of my orders have now been officially canceled. Oh well. You win some, you lose some. There are many discounts I've been able to take advantage of and even more that I've missed out on. That's part of what makes the whole bargain hunting fun. You can't take it too personally or place blame on others. People here are just looking to get their vacation cheaper. I seriously doubt anyone on this board was trying to resell the cards for profit. I ordered exactly the number I needed to pay off the balance on my package for October. Once they're back in stock, I will try again at that discount. Though there is a little evil part of me that wants to order them one by one a day apart to get back at Target for handling this so poorly. :stir:

Fascinating! Where do I go to learn how to do this?

Jodie

The big two public boards are Flyertalk and MilePoint; there are dozens of blogs of varying quality too, but lots of them are just trying to sell you credit cards.

Just search Google. "Mileage Run" is usually a good term to start with. You also have to have good credit if you want to get to most bang for your buck. (You couple sign-up bonuses with Disney vacations/mileage runs...I've travelled to Hawaii, Peru, Italy, Disneyland and Disney World for less than $2,000 in airfare. For my family of four.)

Thanks - will check them out. Just what I need - another message board to distract me!

I would have to say that 1 person ordering 60 is not going to be the deal killer as much as hundreds if not more people ordering the same item in the same day. Don't you think that if each person just ordered 1 each, but your sales on this item increases substantially is going to make the company look to see what is so hot about this item on this day? As many have stated, it was not just on this board, but also on several places, allowing TONS of people to use the order. I was not able to place a single order before it was pulled, but I still do not believe that I am in any position to reprimand or make someone else feel bad for using the deal.

I have loved these boards, but I can not believe the arrogance of some people that they feel they have the RIGHT to reprimand someone else for using a deal. People seriously get a grip! You all knew how much your vacation was going to be when you booked it and that is what you should budget for. If there is an opportunity to get it cheaper, then great, but if not, you should already be prepared to pay the amount you have been told it would be. I am so shocked and dismayed with the behavior I have seen on this thread, with people claiming that they now how to work more overtime because they were not able to receive the deal, and others saying people were greedy and abused the LOOPHOLE. If this is your biggest problem in life, then thank your lucky stars and maybe don't be so hateful to others!!!

My Portland area K-Mart has $25 Disney Gift Cards and my Sears has $50. I know some people have had success buying Disney Gift Cards with either K-Mart or Sears gift cards, but I was unsuccessful at both places last fall. I have Discover Card cashback rewards too that I wish I could somehow convert to Disney gift cards.
OK thank you for your reply!

I didn't see anyone acting in such a way to be deemed hateful on this thread, but maybe I've just seen a lot worse?:confused3

It's to be expected that not everyone is going to agree with the actions of people buying massive amounts of gift cards at a great discount while others get their orders cancelled. It's just the nature of the game. I actually think everyone has rolled with the punches pretty well. But that's just my take.:thumbsup2

Also, if you truly have an issue with someone buying 20+ of these orders... Just think...they're now stuck with $800+ in Target gift cards. So hopefully that will warm your belly a bit. Personally, I have no issue with it...buy away!

My $1800 balance is due Aug. 24. I'm worried about the timing of buying discount Target cards, waiting for the Disney cards to be restocked, then ordering/planning to get them in time. Sorry if it's already been explained, but can I still get the 5% off Disney cards if I buy in-store with my RedCard? Or should I buy the electronic Target cards on Cardpool, hoping to get them within 24-48 hours, then plan to combine and go in-store to purchase for the extra 2% off? Again, more worried about the timing than anything else. Just don't want to be stuck with $1800 in Target gift cards and still owing on my vacation.
