Disney Gift Card Deals

Just got a happy surprise...shopped at Kroger and got an immediate notification that I was getting 5% back on Dosh. It was a regular shopping order, no gift cards. Hoping it sticks around for me! Seems like several others of you have gotten this in the past, but I haven’t. How long does it last? Also, if you haven’t checked in a while, maybe check your Dosh app to see if Kroger is on there now if you have them in your area.
How does Kroger show in your Dosh app?

I have the AMEX card that gives 6% cashback on groceries. Are there any GC deals going on at Safeway or other grocery stores to get more than 6% if I buy Disney GCs?
Safeway has a $15 off 2 $100 mastercard gift cards... that gets you $200 for $196.90. They could then be flipped to Disney... if you do swagbucks that's pretty easy and would come out to $196.90 OOP for $200 in Disney gift cards plus $19 in swagbucks.

It’s under all nearby offers and in the food and drink category. It lists all the Kroger stores in my area as having the 5% back available. I’m not sure how to put a picture in here or I’d add a screenshot. Do you need a web based picture hosting account?

That's okay, I was just curious. Mine only comes up as an online offer. Not sure if it's just because we have a Kroger chain, not Kroger specifically. I know some others' were like that too

Thanks, I forgot about Safeway fees on GC :(. How do I flip MC GC’s to Disney through swagbucks?

I also have the AmEx Blue with 6%. Only deal I found is Kroger's (Smith's) 4X fuel points for vacation cards (Disney included, ends 4/9). I purchase a $250 GC, take the 6% AmEx, get $1 off per gallon with the 1000 points, and use the Barclay MC for 2X points.

Good deal! I don’t have Kroger near me, only Fred Meyer and it doesn’t qualify for the AMEX 6% :(

Ok, I see it for online orders also now. It’s both online and in store for me.

You can use them at Best Buy to buy Disney gift cards. Swagbucks has a QR code you can scan that gets you $7.50 after a few days and an additional $2 after 31 days. The additional is a percentage and is usually 2% but sometimes goes up to 3 or 4%. The best value is $100 at a time so you'd have to stop twice.

Thanks! I’ve done the Best Buy deal, just didn’t think of using GCs to buy Disney GC, thanks so much!

Its a nice savings boost :) especially if you can get the Visa or MC gcs with little to no fee and a good credit card earning rate like your AMEX

Do you know what % the savings would be if I bought $400 worth of GC (exchanging $100 at a time thru BB)? I’m bad at math and curious what it ends up saving me

I can't give an exact amount of the percent without knowing what credit card you are using, what your Best Buy rewards rate is and what discount you are getting the gift cards at.

But lets take an example of someone using the chase freedom and buying 2 $100 Mastercards with the Safeway offer:

$100 +$5.95 activation fee = $105.95 x 2 = $211.90 - $15 off = $196.90

Now, using Swagbucks at Best Buy you get 1900 Swagbucks worth $19.00 but if it is the first payout for the month at Swagbucks you can get a discounted visa gift card so the $19.00 is really worth $21.84. You also get 5% back from your freedom credit card so another $9.85. And you also get 2.5% back from Best buy Rewards (assuming you are at the highest tier) so that is $5 back in Best Buy rewards which can't be used on gift cards. So for arguments sake I will value $5 in Best buy rewards at $3.

So your total cost would be 196.90-21.84-9.85-3=$162.21 for a savings of $37.79, or 18.9%.

Again, there are numerous variables that will change per person so this is a rough estimate. Some people may value the Best Buy rewards at the full $5 (although some people may not be at the 2.5% tier), some people may use a different card than the freedom which may earn more or less (for example the Amex Blue preferred earns 6% but has an annual fee which knocks the actual earning to 4.5% back but you may be able to get a sign up bonus for the first year.) Then again how much out of your way is it to drive to Best Buy (twice), assuming it costs the average person 40 cents per mile.

There will also be a deal at Giant/Stop & Shop next week for Mastercards getting 2X fuel points, but again, the value of fuel points are impossible to calculate as every person gets a different value out of them depending on your car and whether the gas station that you have to use is more expensive than others.

One more variable to throw out there: If the MasterCard being sold at Safeway or at Giant Stop and Shop is from MetaBank, it is not a problem but if it is a US Bank prepaid MasterCard these are highly prone to hacking and it might not be worth the savings to take the risk buying these.

To summarize, your savings at Best Buy should end up somewhere between 15 -20%.

Now, using Swagbucks at Best Buy you get 950 Swagbucks worth $9.50 but if it is the first payout for the month at Swagbucks you can get a discounted visa gift card so the $9.50 is really worth $10.92. You also get 5% back from your freedom credit card so another $9.85. So your total cost would be 196.90-10.92-9.85-3=$173.13 for a savings of $26.87, or 13.4%.

Actually, the Swagbucks back you calculated is for $100. If you took two trips, or used 2 different accounts in one trip, your Swagbucks cash back would be $19.00, significantly upping your discount.

ETA: When I calculate my savings, I tend not to factor in the once monthly SB redemption discount, especially since I typically cash out much more than $25 per month. Also, I'm in a lower BB rewards tier and I rarely purchase anything at BB that I need. For me, using the same calculations on the Safeway and Chase Freedom purchase, but $19.95 cash back from Swagbucks ($9.50 per account plus $0.95 referral bonus), my estimated savings is about 16.5%.

I’ve used Dosh at Kroger the last few days to purchase gift cards. I’ve gotten the $10 all three times. (Plus 6% Amex) When I first read the Kroger offer, it stated that fuel purchases are not eligible for cash back. Now it reads fuel purchases and gift cards are not eligible for cash back.

I wish my purchases would track. They are not gift card purchases. It shows as an eligible location but it just won’t track for some reason

Is the 5% Dosh cashback at Kroger working for online gift card purchases?
