UPDATE
I went to my BB store yesterday and one of my "regular" cashiers was working at the customer service desk. I explained to her what happened and she sort of laughed and agreed that "fraud" is a little far-fetched for a $25 Disney gift card. After a lot of back and forth with the help desk, she was unable to do anything in the store because the gift card that was sent to me had been "deactivated" in their system. What she explained to me is that it looks like it had been activated, sent out, and then de-activated when they suspected it was purchased with a fraudulent card. At that point, they "returned" it and started the refund process to my Virtual Visa card. She said that process can take several days. I had the printouts from my Virtual Visa account which clearly showed the transaction that was made from my card by Best Buy. I was also able to pull up a current screen shot, showing that the balance was currently $0. I told her that I am not concerned with HOW I get the $25 back (refund or Disney card), I just want to make sure I get it back eventually. She told me to give it 2 more days and when I told her I work the next 4, she said she works again on Tuesday...perfect! I will be back in that area on Tuesday so I can stop in. She said we can get it all straightened out then if the card has not been credited by then. She was amazingly helpful and patient and I am hoping to get her name again when I go back because she deserves some recognition.
Basically, what happened is that BEST BUY NO LONGER ACCEPTS VIRTUAL VISA/MASTERCARDS AS PAYMENTS but they DO NOT ADVERTISE THIS. She said that the order should not have gone through in the first place and it should have been cancelled. Remember the "old days" when the orders would show "cancelled....unable to verify payment" or something like that? That is what should have happened here, but it didn't. I learned my lesson and I am sticking to PayPal or I will simply purchase my gift cards from the Disney Store.
UPDATE: So...it's been 2 weeks...I've stopped in to BB twice and said "hi" to my new friend (Autumn), who is going back to school and is not able to spend any more time on my issue...which still has not been resolved. I have not had a refund show up on my Virtual Visa yet so on my last visit in to the store, I was given a different number to call. I think it is the store help number (not the BestBuy.com number) and they were supposed to be able to help me. I finally had the time to give them a call today and I gave the whole, sordid tale to the representative and he was more than helpful and understanding. The first thing he did was apologize for they fact that it has taken 3 weeks to get a $25 gift card. Then, he assured me that this would be resolved with this phone call. He gathered my information and then offered me a refund via a Best Buy gift card. I politely declined and explained to him that I needed the $25 for my Disney vacation and since I can no longer use a Best Buy gift card to buy a Disney gift card, I either needed a refund back to my Visa or I needed them to ship me an activated Disney gift card, which is the product I ordered in the first place. He understood and then offered to send me a refund check, but he said it would "take a little while". I told him that was acceptable since I have over a month until we leave anyways. I also mentioned that I was planning to take the $25 in to BB anyways and purchase the Disney gift card. He confirmed my mailing address and said that the check would arrive in 7-10 business days. He apologized again for the inconvenience and thanked me for my patience and understanding.
Finally, the situation has been resolved. Lesson learned...DO NOT use a Virtual Visa at Best Buy!!
