I've got the list from Vacation Planning on the gift baskets for the DLH. Do you know if they can omit certain things and add others? (obviously for a cost). We already have mickey ears, and won't need autograph books either - so I want to leave those out, and I'd like to exchange the 9" plush to a 18" character. I'm still thinking on what baskets I really want for the kids.

What all snacks can you have them order? This is what I know so far.

Mickey Rice Krispie treats
Cookies & Milk (mickey heads?)
Chocolate dipped strawberries

Anyone know the quantity of these, and price?

I'm ready to make a call to VP, and want to have my list in front of me ready to go LOL.

We did cookies and milk in Jan. You got two large Mickey cookies and two carafes of milk on ice and a embossed card. I did not know you could personalize the card until after the fact. It was around $25 which included the room service delivery. Very cute for our first night there but we did it once and I won't do it again due to the cost. The cookes are like $2.49 a piece at the bakery on main street.

I asked about this last year, and was told they cannot swap out items from the basket, they are already made up and wrapped/sealed in cellophane.

You could alternatively ask them to 'shop' for you, picking up the items you'd like for them to purchase. I have no idea what the cost would be for this, and of course it wouldn't be in one of the 'gift basket' containers, so not sure how they'd present it, but might be worth looking into. :confused3

Were the cookies any good?

My boys got one each in a boxed meal at Whitewater Snacks. The sandwich in the box was stale, really dry bread, and the cookie was too hard to bite into! I even tried, and couldn't get a bite off! We tossed everything, and it was very disappointing.

Was just curious if it was worth trying a fresh one. ;)

Actually they were good and fresh which was nice. We did end up buying the chocolate covered strawberries at one of the candy stores and they rocked!

Aren't there any individuals out there that live near DL that will put baskets together for you for a fee...whatever items you want??? I am doing this in WDW for this October and I am wanting to do the same for my trip to DL in 2008...I know of two ladies that do this sort of thingin Florida and the baskets are phenominal...here is a website, just to see some examples...

Not that I'm aware of, and I would think if such a thing existed, it would be talked about here. :)

Last year there was a DIS member who was trying to start up a business doing this, but I'm gathering it just didn't work out. Last I heard they had done a few successful deliveries, but when I contacted her when my trip was coming up, she did not return any of my inquiry emails. Too bad. :(

I was interested in starting this up, but got super scared by one of the ladies that do the FL. baskets, she said it took a lot of legal crap just to be able to do the baskets. :confused3 So I got scared and kinda changed my mind. lol

Last Christmas, we got cookies and milk at GC, but they were not mickey heads. Instead, they were the most amazing cookie that I had ever had.

The 3 desserts above were what we had delivered.
It was fun for our first trip but we won't be doing this again...too pricey.
There were 2 rice krispie treats (you can ask for however many you want)
I already had milk so we just ordered the Mickey shortbread cookies.
There were 4 strawberries, but I don't remember what increment you can order those.

There is a $25 fee to make any changes to a basket.
For instance, I was going to order the Buzz Lightyear basket and then have them add in another astro blaster and another Disney racer so they wouldn't fight over it, but that's a ridiculous price just to pop 2 items into a basket.

I thinkI might just order an over priced basket of snacks just for the surprise factor and then do my usual Tinkerbell gifts for the first morning.
I would make my own basket but we're flying so I can't schlep along a basket too.

I am ordering the beach towel basket and hubby is a diabetic and VPS will take away a lot of the sugar items and use things like nuts or ptrezels.

Sorry to sound so stupid but where do you order these from? We've been to DLR many times but have never stayed at a DLR hotel. This December we are actually going to for the first time and I think it would be neat to have a gift basket waiting for DS3. Any other things that would be a neat experience for him at the hotel? We are staying at PP Concierge.

Thanks for the help!

Bumber, are these for the gift things too, or is room service different? I'm curious as to whether or not I can order this and have it waiting in the room for our arrival. I would definitely do the $18 ($25 is a bit much.)

Hey CandCMommy- we keep ending up on the same threads!! As far as PP concierge goes- the first night they have always brought us the chocolate dipped mickey rice krispie treats when they do the turn down service.(part of the service) The kids love that! The following nights they usually leave a box of shortbread cookies or the little chocolate mickey coins. Gift baskets- I am on the fence about, we have bought them before.. Are they worth the money? Probably not.. Are they SO cute? Oh yeah! Concierge is really awesome about working with you when you have kids you want to surprise. I usually schlep my own "homemade baskets" and also ask concierge for balloons, signed photos, charcters signatures on pillowcases or books. They are always awesome about telling the kids things like " Peter Pan wanted me to give you this storybook because he knows you are always on the lookout for that codfish, Captain Hook".

I called Vacation Planning, and they sent me an email. The body of the email had a bunch of room service treats like that. The attachment was a big list of baskets and such. But it was all sent by Vacation Planning.

Here's the contact info at the bottom of the email:

Wow! I had no idea! However, I do know that in the last couple of months, in FL, they cannot include anything edible in the baskets...it is now against the law, I guess because of the FDA...it has something to do with someone out of their home (making the baskets up), inslead of a "business"...I wonder if it is the same in CA??

Vacation planning won't guarantee that anyone of the things ordered will be in your room waiting for you when you arrive as they are unsure of what time you'll be checking in or when your room will be ready. I believe they do ask you for a general time of delivery each night (we've done treats and baskets) especially for treats like milk and cookies which are perishable.

Hey Heatherplus3 thanks for all the info! You sound like you've done this quite a few times.:cool1:
