Disney gave my room away after I was in it

I've seen this said on this thread MANY times now and I just can't understand it. What are you supposed to do with all your valuables (and trust me- my families clothes, other belongings besides money/purse/credit cards/etc. are considered valuable to us when we're staying onsite with no transportation to go buy those things again while there!) that won't fit in the very small lockbox? What are those people supposed to do? Take their laptop with them to the parks each and every day? A lot of people fly and use Disney transportation and don't have vehicles to put things in (not that this would be any safer than in their room)- where do you suggest they keep ALL their "valuables" if not in their room? I don't get it! <snip>

As safetymom said, there are cable locks for laptops. You could also lock it in your suitcase, I think it would be safer there than just sitting out. I guess because I work for an insurance company I cringe when people say they just leave laptops out unprotected.

Maybe this is a stupid question, but how do the cable locks work? Is it sort of like a bike lock where you actually hook it to something? Does anyone know how much they cost?

God bless those poeple if that was me and my husband! After reading this thread I am still in shock! I have no words except, I would definatley write a letter to the GM of the resort. That behavior by all CM's was unexcusable. I am not one to harp on the should of, could of, and would of, but seriously, your ordeal could of had a much more devistating outcome. Think about it!

Sorry that that happened to you...talk about putting a damper on your exciting disney vacation!!!

they're also lucky it wasn't me.....
and one night off your visit is insufficient compensation for what they put you through....
however, once the trip is over, you have no clout left...
WDW will typically only settle up while you're still there....once you're home the best you can hope for is a form letter.

Couldn't a suitcase be removed from the room just as easily as the laptop? Who would think someone was stealing if they saw someone carrying a laptop OR a suitcase with a laptop in it out of a room at WDW?
But besides that... read my entire post. I was commenting not just on your post about the laptop but about several posts about leaving "valuables" in the room unprotected. To some of us a LOT of stuff is considered very valuable while there on vacation. Far more stuff than we can protect by putting in a tiny lock box- so we can't protect those items further than keeping it in our supposedly safe room! (atleast supposed to be safe from the resort handing out extra keys to our room!)

This is a little different but also very embarrassing. We were in our 2nd half of our split stay between WL/AKL. I usually use the wake up call (99 % of the time) I hear ir, pick up the phone & hang up. We sleep late. Well one day at AKL I was in the shower & didn't hear the phone ring. My DH & DS sleep like the dead. Also my DH sleeps "au natural" (don't ask). I always (thankfully) put the inside lock thing on the door. As I was coming out of the shower, I had put on a sleep shirt on, someone is trying to open the door !! Thankfully they couldn't because it was locked from inside. But it opened a crack ! It was the front desk concerned because we hadn't answered our wake up call ??? First I was a little mad, imagine if I hadn't locked the door ! Jeez the poor man would of seen my DH NAKED & me coming out of the shower. He would of been scarred for life & I would of died of shame. I politely told him, we were deep sleepers but everything was fine. Weird but true !

Yes, they could walkout with the suitcase too. I'm just thinking of a case where someone gets into your room and wants to do a "grab and dash". They are more likely to grab something sitting out rather than try to get into a suitcase or walk out with a suitcase (having no idea what is in the suitcase). I just don't believe a laptop should be left sitting out unprotected. My laptop was about $1,300, far more valuable than anything else I bring on vacation.

Well I don't even bring my laptop. LOL
But my point was not JUST about laptop- it was about you and others comments about not leaving "valuables" in your room... for some of us quite a bit of our stuff is VERY valuable to us- especially while on the trip at WDW and there is no way we can take it with us nor is the lockbox near big enough for it all... the room IS the only safe place we can put our "valuables" while staying there. And it should be safe from the resort giving out extra keys to our room to allow others in there to get our stuff in the first place!

Ps. I'd think something was fishy if someone did a grab and dash and I saw them with the laptop while doing that- than if I saw them running out of a room with a suitcase or two. LOL

Just to let everyone know this can happen at any resort. My husband and I were staying for a few nights at The Ritz Carlton in Key Biscayne. After waiting forever for our room (we arrived early) it was finally given and up we went. I put the key in the door and walked in. Well, not only was the room assinged to someone else who had their stuff all over the place, but they were in the shower and it sounded like enjoying themselves!!!!!!! I made a mad dash out of there and almost knocked over our valet with our luggage.
I don't think that the other people ever knew about the day but let's just say I was humiliated enough for both of us.
