Alright all my Disney experts, does anyone know if DVC members, AP holders (at DL or WDW), or Disney Visa holders get a discount of any kind from the Disney Gallery? I have added the Thomas Kinkade painting commemorating DL's 50th to my siggie and would really like to purchase one. (And, I'm not ashamed to admit that I wouldn't mind getting a discount.) Resistance if futile...I must have one!!! :teeth:

Cant help you with any info on the discount but just wanted to let you know your siggie looks beautiful! :)

Could you please tell me the name of picture and where I can find it? It's beautiful!!! I'd love a piece of Disney artwork in my home, but the colors never seem to fit (too bold and primary). This one would fit quite nicely :flower:

Many thanks!!!

Thank you jiggerj! :goodvibes

I believe the piece is just called "Disneyland's 50th Anniversary". It was just released a few days ago and is available at the Disney Gallery in DL and also at Thomas Kinkade Galleries. He actually painted the original while at DL and included himself and family purchasing balloons in the lower right corner. There are only a limited number of quantities, so anyone that is interested may have to act fairly quick. Here is a link to the Disney Gallery with more info: Click

The painting is beautiful....Disney artwork is no logger discounted in DTD..stopped a few years ago. :confused3

As far as I know, no discounts are given for anything Collectibles and artwork. No AMEX, AP, DVC or VISA, to date.

Dang. I 'was' a Kinkade collector of sorts. We have 3 older, signed numbered canvas prints (sunk a chunk of change on these things). I became so disillusioned with the artist because he has mass-marketed his stuff. When we bought ours, there was no TK wallpaper, coffee mugs, Christmas ornaments etc. So I gave up on him. Now he comes out with this awesome print.

I just did an Ebay search and it looks like these things are going to skyrocket in price. If you can get one at the street price, I think it would be a good deal. Although a discount would be nice! It really is beautiful.

Thanks so much for the info....now to talk my DH into buying it ;)

It may already be too late...I'm going to call our local gallery and see what the availability is. I read on a thread started on the DL forum that the ones purchased @ the Disney Gallery have hidden Mickey's on the frame. That is too cool! There is a total number of 14,460 (canvas, paper, and Artist's Proof).

Muushka -- I agree with you completely...Kinkade's work is way over-exposed. Hopefully he will start doing smaller projects again. It is a shame that he cheapened his work with all the "garbage" as a true Kinkade painting is so beautiful (especially if the lighting is just-right!).

Calypso - I want to thank you and be mad at you at the same time for posting this - as I now have to buy it (I want the biggest size Giclee so this won't be cheap)!!! My mom works at a Kinkade gallery and she showed my wife the postcards of this print last week, but my wife forgot to tell me. Then I saw it here and went nuts that my mom didn't call me directly!! I really don't like Kinkade either for the reasons mentioned here already, but with the Disney 50th added in, I have to break down and get my first (and probably last) Kinkade. If it makes you feel any better about no discounts, the Kinkade employees were not given a discount on these either (they usually get a discount, maybe 20% or so) and they were not allowed to buy any either for themselves. And the galleries are already selling them for $300 or so more than what Disney sold them for. In addition, I know that her gallery only has 2 left out of like 55 and they were only allowing 1 per customer. I figured I would buy one from her gallery and try and get it framed with the hidden mickey frame at the Disney Gallery, so I called the Gallery to ask them. I had to leave a message and they called me back last night. It turns out they actually have some of the paintings left over from last Saturday that are signed by Kinkade (his additional signature can add up to $500 to the value of a painting), but these were for the largest sizes only. They are sold out of the Kinkade signed A/P's, but will get a few more (unsigned of course) soon. Needless to say, I will be there at Noon today when the gallery opens, buying my painting. As far as the hidden mickey frames, the Gallery told me that they do not have such a thing, but the frame design is somehow supposed to look like Mickey in some way. Since I can't visualize this, I will try and take a picture of it and post here when I get home tonight (assuming they have them in stock). Anyway, thanks for the post and I am off to DL now to become broke!!!

5infam -- Sorry!!! (I think :teeth: )

Hey, you'll be thanking me years from now when your major expenditure is a true collector's item (and I won't even ask for a cut of the profits).

Seriously, good luck on getting one at the Gallery. Please post whether or not you had success. I wish I lived close enough to DL to be able to go and get one. :(

Has anyone been able to purchase one of these yet? I called the Disney Gallery and they won't take my order over the phone.

Is there an outside mail order service like WDW has (laughing place store) in California? Anyone know? I don't mean the Disney operated mail order.

We will be in DL in a few weeks. Do I need to take orders?

Lisa,

Did you call the Kinkade Galleries in town? Wondering if anyone has one to look at closely. I think there is a gallery in Washington Square. I might need to check it out.

I love Kinkade, but never had a reason to purchase any with all the Disney artwork we have. Now I might have a reason.

Anyone have the phone number to the Disney Gallery to see if they would hold one for pick up in about 6 weeks? Would make a GREAT Christmas present for DH! ;)

Ok all, I am back from DL and here is my adventure of the day. First off, I did try and buy one from the gallery directly over the phone, but they wouldn't sell one to me. Their phone number is (714) 781-7531. I had to leave a message but they did return my call.

Anyway, I had to go to DL to purchase one in person (like I needed another reason to go to Disney right ;) ). When I got there, about 20 after noon, the place was packed and they were lined up buying. My wife got in line while I tried to get some questions answered about what was in stock. The place was a zoo and those CM's were saints today. Anyway, I was going for the largest size in the Artist Proof (A/P) edition because I heard they had some stashed in the back. Turns out that all the A/P's were truly gone. Since Disney only sells the A/P and the S/N editions, I had the choice of waiting and possibly ordering an A/P from a gallery at a later date, or going with an S/N. Now normally, I wouldn't have gone with an S/N (too many paintings in each edition for my taste), but at the rate these were selling, I figured I should get something. So I wanted the S/N in the largest size - but I wanted it with the Kinkade personal signature on the back that was signed last Saturday. Turns out, they were sold out!!! Then I went for the mediun size - turns out the guy in front of me took the final 2 middle sized ones :earseek: !!!!! My last hope was a small on canvas, and fortunately, I got one. It was signed by Kinkade, but the number was 149 of 1955, and I always prefer numbers under 100 (doesn't mean much, just my preference) - but at least I got one.

I took it unframed because to be honest, the frames were not that great (JMHO - I am sure others liked them). The gold frames were nice though, but we have golden color walls so it wouldn't work so well. Anyway, I will send it to my mom's gallery for a custom frame. Now I did check out the frames and there were definately no Hidden Mickey frames. The only frame that had any Mickey on it was for the prints on Paper, and those came with an added Mickey that said 50th anniversary inside of it. The frames for the canvas art was the standard wood (which really felt like plastic to me) and gold which did look nice.

Here is some more inside scoop from the CM's (who by the way really didn't like me once a few guests heard me talking about their stock with Kinkade signing the back of the paintings - it caused a frenzy). Anyway, they said that they would be getting more paintings in, they just didn't know when, but they would not have the Kinkade signature on the back. Disney is the only ones allowed to sell the A/P's and S/N's for 9 months, then the galleries can sell them after that. Until 9 months is up, the galleries can only sell the G/P's, which Disney will never be able to sell. The problem is, I can't see these lasting 9 months!!! It was ridiculous today because people were there to just look at the painting and were in shock when they found out they could buy it. The registers were ringing like I have never seen in my life - and these are big ticket items. If you still want one and can get to Disney, call ahead, see what they have. I have a feeling they have more, but are releasing them a few each day to spread it around. They really should limit it to one per customer, just like the galleries do. This way, more people will have a chance to get one. Good luck to those still in the hunt!!!

Calypso - of course I was just kidding you!!! Thank you for posting the info. BTW, you can get a discount at the Disney Gallery using an AP (only the high end one) or you can also get 10% off with a Disney Visa!! Also, if anyone is looking at the canvas prices and saying forget it - you really should consider the Paper ones as an alternative. They won't increase in value as much as the canvas, but who cares if you are going to keep it. The thing is, in person, the ones on paper look brighter and nicer than the canvas ones (much like Calypso's signature picture). The ones on canvas are a little darker and will need to be spot lit in your home if they are to be shown at its best (but this is true of most art - especially Kinkade).

Rsschneck, have a great time on your upcoming trip. Today was a perfect day for Disney with great weather. :sunny: Have fun!!!

Thank you for all the information!!! I'm so glad it worked out for you. Thanks for pointing out the difference between the canvas and the paper. I would definitely buy one to keep and would probably prefer the paper only because I would be looking at it daily (if not hourly!) and want the one that looks the best in standard light (my home is about as "ungallery" as you can get!).

I'll be honest, I'm really shocked that there is a discount available on the artwork, as I posted the question...I thought I was nuts for even asking.

Good luck to all of you in your quest to purchase a little bit of Disney magic!!!

However, it really appears that those of us who don't live near DL are out of luck. I bought a Kincaid from my local gallery once. NEVER AGAIN! They were idiots! (I love the artwork, it's one of the Paris scenes, but getting it in a frame actually seemed to be beyond thier limited ablity. After 90 days I called the manager and said tomorrow or I call the CC and cancel... somewhere they found a frame!)

Here is some more of an update - my sister is now on the hunt for a small one as well, and went to another local Kinkade gallery (not the one my mom works at because they are out of the smalls). Anyway, this gallery was out of the smalls as well, but had the medium and the large - but the prices are insane!!!! The small is going for $2,900, the medium for $3,900 and the large for $4,900!!!!! This compares to Disney prices at $1,160, $1,800 and $2,300 (these are Disney A/P prices, and the galleries sell G/P's only right now) and you can get a 10% discount at DL. I guess the Kinkade gallery folks are swamped with orders that they can't fill yet (wait lists) so it is a supply and demand thing (reminds me of the gas prices after Katrina). Anyway, if you want one, call your local gallery quickly and buy or get on the list as the prices won't hold long once the initial supply is gone. Good luck to all :earsboy: :earsboy: :earsboy:
