Disney for cheap??When, Where, How???

Ten days in January or Feburary is a LOT of days. You can save a lot by going seven - food, lodging and tickets will all go down.

That's a very good point. More isn't always better--sometimes it's just more.

If you're going in a the slow season and can move at a reasonable pace (i.e. traveling party doesn't include very young kids or those with health/mobility issues) you'll be able to see everything and then some in a week.

You could save money and not really miss out on much by paring down a few days.

except 10 days allows them to have some off days to rest up. we found our breaking point to be 4 days and then we have to take a break. plus, maybe they want to get out of dodge for 10 days because that's what makes their vaca feel like a vaca.

the cost of traveling from home to FL and back is the same whether they stay for 1 day or 100 days. the cost of a 10 day MYW pass is really not much more than a 4 day pass. So, there is efficiency in stretching the trip as long as they can. yes, the hotel costs per night and the food per day. but if they eat in for 2 meals a day, that is still minimal added expense. it would only really be the added restaurant meals that add up.

That's all true. It just depends on how strapped they are. Given that they're thinking about parking at DTD to save money, I figure every dollar must count.

They may not be aware that 7 days is often plenty in the slow seasons. The incremental cost might be lower, but 10 days still costs more than 7 days.

Until the OP tells us otherwise, I figure all ideas are on the table.

absolutely;) i wasn't trying to be combative, rather to show there is also value in staying longer. a good example is our trip this year. we are staying for 13n vs. 9n in Sept. during free dining. the savings in airfare for flying midweek to midweek was enough to offset the added resort expense (POP). the net result was that with free food, our trip for 13n is only $91 more than the 9n trip.

Sweet deal! I hope you have a fantastic time!

We stayed at the LaQuinta on IDrive for 3 nights once when we were in town to visit family and doing the parks as a "side excursion"
It was decent, cheap and had a really nice breakfast included.
We drive too, from Cleveland. It's about 20 hours with stops, etc so I feel your pain. If you can split up driving and drive straight through it's the most economical, but my kids aren't huge fans of doing it that way. 2 10 hour days works out best for us, and since we like to camp, we throw our little tent in the back of the car and camp halfway for the night. Just another idea for you. :)

I believe last year Disney came out with a package discount for January that included accomodations and park tickets, you might want to keep your eyes open for that. Do you have a disney visa card? I have gotten emails with discounts from having my disney visa. Plus if you stay onsite your parking is free at your resort (not sure about the parks but someone else would be able to clarify that). I have stayed offsite once and will never do it again. Staying onsite, to me, is so much more convenient and relaxing. Knowing you can just hop on a bus to run back to your hotel for a mid day break is so nice. Check out the thread for codes, you might be able to find out something there. Good luck and have a great time!!
