So, my husband and I are celebrating our 5th anniversary in December. Since it falls so close to the holidays, we've convinced our parents to watch our kids for 4 nights in mid-October so we can celebrate a bit early. We honeymooned in Disney and on the second day, I got the flu... we had to call a local doctor to come to our room at WL because I was so violently ill. NOT GOOD! We're toying with the idea of heading to Disney again - you know, trying the old honeymoon all over again.

I feel bad about the leaving the kids but think Disney could be an entirely different experience for just the two of us (no parent swapping at rides, no dining around naptimes or bedtimes, the ability to experience Pleasure Island, etc.). Since my last "adult" trip turned out rotten, I'd love to hear of what the solo/adult travelers recommend we see/do and tell me some stories to help me convince DH that Disney can be a very "adult" place too!

We are goint to Disney later this month for our 15th anniversary. My boys are 12, 7 and 4. The youngest is not happy at all. But we promised him a present. I have to tell you I do feel guilty, but I feel even more guilty that my DH wants to go away alone and for years I have said no.

We are going for two full days but three nights. We are excited to experience Disney like never before. We made nice dinner reservations and can go to shops that my kids would be bored at. We are staying at CR. I cannot wait. We are going to Epcot and walk around the Countries, something we have not done with the kids.

Good luck with your plans.

We too are going in November for our 15th anniversary without the kids. My dd's 12 & 10 are okay with the idea. They know mom will bring home guilt presents!!!

Going to different countries in Epcot is something that we are unable to do with our kids. We are planning to dine at nice places and also take our time. We don't have to run from ride to ride. It will be at a relaxing pace.

We will be gone from the 11 - 17!!!! I feel really guilty. Our honeymoon was at the CR. But with the expenses of two dd's, we are down to staying at POP. It will be a wonderful trip for you.

I bought the guide book Walt Disney without Kids. It is pretty good. Tells you what things not to miss and what areas to avoid.

Despite your honeymoon snafu, I think WL can be wildly romantic.

Boardwalk area, either Y/BC or BW is a good choice too, close to parks & dining
@ Dolphin. Would suggest to avoid the clown pool view rooms @ BW.

We've never been solo, figure it's just around the corner for us now that DS's are maturing...enjoy!

When we took our Anniversary trip in January, we took advantage of not having the kids with us by booking a Segway Around the World Tour and Keys to the Kingdom. We were also able to spend a little more time in the WS at Epcot.

Have fun! :thumbsup2

4 night in Oct - then you will be there during the food/wine festavial - I would suggest one of the Epcot hotels -if you drink.

if you don't what ever strikes your fancy.

you can rent a DVC reservation from a DVC member at both BCV and BWV.

what does your husband enjoy? golf - Disney has excellent golf course, fishing - Disney has lakes that only its boat can enjoy, tennis, basketball, volleyball, - there is a bunch of things to do.

how much money are you considering? there is always the fire works cruise - but it can be expensive. some of the restuarants are fine - California Grill (okay I don't like it but lots of people do), Artist Pointe at WL (love it), now I happen to love both Kona Cafe at the polyn, and Boma at AKL. but they aren't as romantic.

maybe if something is happening that he is interested in at WWoS?

My DH & I go all the time w/out kids (OK - so we don't have any). We always have a wonderful time!

We love staying at the Wilderness Lodge, seems to be fewer kids there, and we love taking the boat ride over to the Magic Kingdom or to catch the monorail to Epcot.

There's plenty to do w/out kids! We especially enjoy wandering through the countries at a slow pace, checking out every cubby-hole and looking through the stores, talking to the cast members (they are usually always willing to tell you about their country - politics, religion, etc) and sampling food & adult beverages around the park.

Some of our favorite "adult" restaurants outside the parks w/out kids... Artist Point at Wilderness Lodge, Concord Steakhouse at the Contemporary, and Boatwrights at Port Orleans Riverside. I know there's a lot more, but we travel on a budget - so the two of us do just fine at these.

We also liked getting margaritas at Coronado Springs (there's a bar right outside the Pepper Mill).

The carriage rides at Port Orleans Riverside were lovely - not too expensive either!

I think you'll be surprised at how much you'll notice without the kids along on the rides! Enjoy!

My dh & I celebrated our 15th anniversary this past May at Disney. It was his first trip and boy is he hooked! (lucky for me!)

We stayed at Ft. Wilderness Resort & Campsite and had a big cabin just to ourselves. It was wonderful!

Wherever you stay in WDW I'm sure you'll have a blast. (and hopefully you won't get the flu again!)

have fun & congrats!

IF you get sick...

FYI - if you happen to get sick there, go/call your concierge. They'll give you a form to order over the counter drugs from a local drug store - $5 delivery charge and it's at the hotel within a couple of hours. If you need prescription, they have a form they can fax to your doctor. Very convienent - we never have a car and occasionally things come up. They charge it to your room and you pick it up at the assigned time. That includes bandaids & other stuff you might need (I know - the souvenears shops have those too, but sometimes you like something specific).

Disney in Dec is lovely.... so maybe on your 10th - you might go then - just get a flu shot first!!!

Thanks for the input! It sounds wonderful. I think I've almost got him convinced. I appreciate all of the suggestions and links to different things going on around the time we'd be traveling. And yes, I'll get a flu shot! :lmao:

That's funny...I honeymooned in Disney last year and on the second day got the worst case of food poisoning (not from a Disney Restaurant). I have never been so sick in my life and it pretty much put a damper on our entire trip. I still had fun, but didn't get to see everything I wanted (and didn't get to really eat anything either!).
What amazed me was how much fun my DH had! It was his first time there and I was worried he might think it was too cheesy or kiddy. And even though we didn't get to experience many of the shows, missed out on Animal Kingdom and had to deal with light sprinkle most of the time, he had a blast!
When I suggested we try again this year, he couldn't be happier! Me either! We are both looking forward to going in December. We're staying on Disney this time to hopefully avoid being poisoned again. :)
I don't have kids, but I can say that we had so much fun, just us two, and sort of felt sorry for the people having to lug their children everywhere. Plus if you go in October, you can both attend the "Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party." I've never been, but dressing up for halloween and just acting silly, how can you go wrong with that?!
My long point is that I think I would have LESS fun if I had to bring small children with me. So, YES, it's a great place for adult couples!
